Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, and Other Partners) - Upgrade to La Premiere Possible?
Not to double post but I posted over in the Delta forums about upgrading on a Delta ticket stock flight, but booked in Business. I wanted to know, through the FlyingBlue program, if I could upgrade to La Premiere? This is a paid Biz ticket.

I believe that if you are booked into a flexible Business class ticket you have the option of using your Flying Blue miles to upgrade to F.
To keep the product exclusive it is not possible to book F using miles from another frequent flier programme.

My understanding is that this is a SkyTeam rule, not something that AF unilaterally imposes on its partners.
ADDED. However, to return to the OP's question, does having the flight booked on DL ticket stock (and perhaps with a DL codeshare flight number?) affect whether AF miles can be used to upgrade into IFC?

I am on a full Flex Biz ticket. I'll call AF reservations and report back.

Very good point, which is what I'm about to find out. I suppose this will be good for future FTers, if one could upgrade to IFC on AF when booked on Paid Business, Delta Ticket stock but AF metal.

Not sure what you mean with "ticket stock", the RGN thread is full of approximations.
- ticket stock: airline that issues the ticket, ticket number starting with 006 for DL stock, 057 for AF stock, 074 for KL stock
- fare basis: fare published by an airline or YY for IATA full fares.
- marketing carrier: the carrier that owns the flight number on the electronic ticket (different from "stock").
- operating carrier: the airline that actually flies its aircraft. (there might be some nuances in case of wet lease of aircrafts)
What is important here is the booking class and the marketing carrier of the flight that is operated by AF. The fare is not important, and the ticket stock should not matter between AF DL and KL as they can reissue each other tickets on a different stock.
If your flight is AF marketed in D C or J class, then it should be upgradable to F class with FB miles, even if issued on DL stock, but if it is DL marketed, I would be surprise they allow an upgrade to F since it would require to change the marketing carrier which could make the original fare not valid. Alternatively, AF could issue an MCO in conjunction with the original ticket valid for transport in first class but I am not sure they do such things now.

is it possible? upgrades are usually subject to the same rules as awards in the same class. I thought DL did not allow its members to book P on AF with miles (but may be wrong) and that AF only allows P award to its own gold and platinum FBers without similar access to other Skyteam elite members. (but again could be wrong). So my guess would be it is not possible but again, I am not a specialist and it will be interesting to hear back from the OP

By SkyTeam rules, DL miles cannot be used for either IFC award tickets or upgrades into IFC. However, OP wants to upgrade using AF miles.

No matter which stock you have, you can upgrade to P on AF only if the booking class is available and you have to do it through your own FF programme. So if you have Lufthansa ticket flying on AF and you are DL FF, then you must call DL FF only, and only they can upgrade you paying with DL miles.
If you want to upgrade paying, than you can do it in any AF office before the flight or on the phone, provided your original booking class is eligible for it.
The same for upgrading eco into Business. If you have cheap N, L, Q, R.... class you must first pay the difference to K class and then upgrade to C.
And besides La Premiere is very exclusive and almost never there is availablity to upgrade.

I think that some comments might be a bit confusing. Orbitmic and ranskis summarized the situation.
You need to be FB Gold or Plat, using FB miles on a flight marketed as AF in booking class that allows upgrade (it can change depending on your point of origin).
DL does not have international first class (IFC) and their FFP does not provide award/upgrade in IFC. Their award chart is a bit confusing as the appellation "First class" is for domestic first class.
of course, you might always get an opup or an email proposal to upgrade for cash.

This. I called and was told no since I was not a FlyingBlue elite...I'll try my luck at the CDG lounge/Booking Desk when I fly the route.

The DL FF program doesn't "provide" IFC upgrades because SkyTeam rules say that miles of an airline that does not offer IFC cannot be used for IFC awards or upgrades into IFC on other SkyTeam partners. It's a SkyTeam rule, not necessarily a decision by DL and the same rule applies to other SkyTeam FF programs where IFC isn't offered.
