Practical Travel Safety Issues - What are the stages of Security at LAX, specifically TBIT

I rarely fly out of LAX and the last time I did was with SW in terminal 1 or 2 years ago. I've never actually entered the TBIB. My question is how long does security take on average? I was planning on arriving about 4-3:30 hours before my flight's listed departure time. I constantly hear from people to arrive at LAX 2 hours early for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights. And what are the actual stages of security, as in ID check, scanner, gate check, etc?

Same as domestic. When I departed 2 weeks ago it took less than 5 minutes, only using WTMD.

TBIT doesn't have elite lanes that I can recall, so everyone is in the same line. The line took about 15 - 20 mins last time I was there, but the process is the same as it is throughout the rest of LAX. I only saw WTMDs at the checkpoint.

The issue with TBIT can be a lot of non English speaking flyers that may not be very accustomed to the Security process. A few years back I remember it taking nearly an hour to get through Security at night. Luckily I had hours to my connection.
Its a crapshoot but I'd err on the safe side.
