Marriott Rewards (including Ritz-Carlton) - question about extra adult surcharges on marriott vs other web sites

My parents are going to join my 9 yo daughter and me for one night in Victoria, BC. At the Marriott website I can get a single room for all four of us, but there will be an extra adult surcharge for one adult and possibly my child (not clear at what age they charge, but I am thinking my 9yo won't get us charged).

However, when doing a price comparison, I found the same room/rate on reservetravel.com. However, for this room, it appears I can get the rate for 4 people. Although it has a general blurb that says, "All rates, unless stated otherwise, are based on single or double occupancy," the rate quote for the room/night I am looking at specifically states, "Rate: This rate is for 4 adult/s per room."

For just 1 night, I am fine sharing a room with my parents, and if given the option, I'd choose the non-surcharge rate over the surcharge rate!

Should I go with the reservetravel website to get the 3rd adult in for free, or do you guys think that I will still face the surcharge anyway?

Thanks in advance!

Is this for Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour? If so, it's listed for $155.82 now while Marriott list it on their website for $159.20. Go here (https://www.marriott.com/look/claimForm.mi) and submit a claim to Marriott to pricematch to that website and you also get 25% off the rate. So going at $155.82, Marriott will give you the rate of $116.87 for that night. You will end up saving more this way.

As long as a competitor website doesn't have that as some "package deal" or advance purchase, it should qualify for the match. Check the terms and conditions in that link for all the details.

EDIT: Forgot one thing. Make sure you reserve that room first on the official Marriott website before submitting the claim. If everything checks out, make sure you submit the claim within 24 hours of your booking. I usually do some price comparison online and if I find a lower price, I make the reservation on Marriott website and then immediately submit my claim so I don't forget it.

It is Victoria Inner Harbor. I thought to do that, too, except the $155.82 is USD & the $159.20 is CAD which approximately the same give or take a few cents, so I am back to wondering whether one site gives me the extra adult for free or not.

Thanks for the thought, tho. The rate guarantee would have turned that room into a super deal.

Overlooked the currency conversion. In this case, the competitor site is actually a bit higher. You can reserve the one at that website you found since they will NOT charge an extra adult fee and children stay free. It will save you $30 compared to the Marriott website. Read the terms carefully on that site, but from what I see, you can cancel before 6PM of the reserved date.

I would check back during the weekday to see if the 48 hour sale is removed. If so, check that other link and see if their prices goes up. If not, see if the price is lower than the one on Marriott again. If so, make another reservation but this time on the official Marriott website and submit the claim form. Don't cancel the other reservation yet that you reserved initially unless you are successful with the LNF.

Why don't you write/call the hotel and ask them directly about their policy? If it's the same room on one site saying that it can sleep up to 4 adults, then I guess the hotel probably allow that.

There is no harm in asking. If they say they will charge, at least you won't get any sudden surprise.

I tried the CAD USD LNF and it didn't work out so well. I always get denied based on currency conversion.
