I have an option to arrive at BNE on VA8 at 07:00 (from LAX) then transit to Auckland at 08:30 on DJ186. That's only 1.5 hours to make the connection, and that worries me. I'll be in business class, so I was wondering:

1) Is there any type of fast track customs/immigration for J passeners to allow me to skip most of the long lines?

2) Is 1.5 hours even remotely doable for an international to international transfer?

If not, there's a evening flight that doesn't get into Auckland until after midnight, so I'd much rather do the AM flight.

Assuming VA8 is on-time, and you have either no checked-in luggage or they are tagged through to AKL, then 1.5 hours is plenty.

For an international to international transfer, there's no need to clear customs and immigration at BNE, and DJ186 departs from the same terminal as VA8 arrives. All you need to do is get off VA8, follow the signs upstairs to the departures area (passing through one lightly used security checkpoint), and you're there.

However, if you have luggage tagged to BNE only, then you will need to clear customs and immigration, and re-check your bags. Still doable in 1.5 hours if things go well, but VA8 arrives at peak time for arrivals into BNE, so you may be faced with long lines. There is fast-track immigration and customs available for J passengers (ask on-board if you're not given a card), but you can only use fast-track if you have nothing to declare in your luggage.

I'd definitely try to have any checked-in bags tagged through to AKL.

No reason why your bags shouldn't be checked all the way through. Remember that Australia and New Zealand are different countries so it should be a pretty straightforward International to International airside transit.

If yngdiego's ticket shows VA8 and DJ186, chances are the two flights are not on the same ticket (I would have expected two VA codes if they were), and there may be issues tagging the bags all the way through at LAX. Definitely worth asking for this as it means there is no need to clear C&I in BNE, but with 1.5 hours between flights this is not something I'd personally want to leave to chance.

Call VA and get definite confirmation .. otherwise, book a later connecting flight.
