Hong Kong and Macau - Chocolate in Hong KongView Full Version : Chocolate in Hong Kong love_to_travel Jun 17, 12, 6:14 am Ill be in Hong Kong next week and am looking for chocolate store recommendations. I love their truffle coated almonds. I also especially recommend a Japanese chocolate - Royce' Nama. The "Nama" chocolate is actually a truffle and is divine - I like dark chocolate so I love the "bitter Nama". They also do a variety of chocolate tablets and so on which are nice. You will find Godiva and other European chocolate in a variety of places. Be aware that the Godiva at the airport is managed by a different distributor and the range and prices are different. Do not assume you can buy what you want at the airport as you leave HKG. I second the suggestion of the basement in Sogo (Causeway Bay). Great chocolate there. I think it is Lucullus that has chocolate coated popcorn that is awesome. planemechanic Jun 18, 12, 3:26 am Sees Candy in the basement of K11 in TST. Pickles Jun 18, 12, 11:17 pm Sees Candy in the basement of K11 in TST. There is another one in the basement of the Landmark Mall in Central. However, See's in Asia is breathtakingly expensive. A 5-6 USD box of molasses chips you can get pretty much anywhere in the Western US goes for almost 30 USD. I don't know how they can get away with such pricing, maybe it is considered luxury chocolate in Asia. rkkwan Jun 19, 12, 1:34 am I don't know how they can get away with such pricing, maybe it is considered luxury chocolate in Asia. They've been in HK for long time, at least since the mid-70's, with a store in the Ocean Terminal - then the one and only premium shopping mall. Way before Godiva and other chocolatiers came to HK, and Luculus starting up. They are able to maintain this high-end image here throughout the years, which is pretty remarkable. startpacking Jun 19, 12, 12:19 pm I don't consider Sees to be of the same calibre as the other chocolatiers mentioned in this post. I thought the op was looking for luxury chocolates like Jean Paul Hevin and La Maisson du Chocolat (the two brands mentioned in the op). The op is in HNL, Sees is easily available there at a fraction of the cost. Even the luxury European chocolate brands cost far less in Europe than in HK. In short, the op can get his/her chocolate fix in HK, but will have to be prepared to pay for it dearly. zerogx Jun 19, 12, 7:41 pm A few years ago I met my relatives who live in Japan in HKG. I brought them some chocolates from Bruges, and they brought me some chocolates from Leonidas. Quality-wise they were similar, except mine were about EUR 20c each and theirs were about HK$20! As a non-American, See's seems to have a weird taste like Hershey's. People keep getting those for me as well thinking it is a high-class brand. Fortunately my mum seems to like them. love_to_travel Jun 21, 12, 9:26 pm Thank you for all the responses! I'll report back what I find :) BuildingMyBento Jul 13, 12, 7:52 am Sorry for tacking on this (slight) tangent, but I'm quite the fan of marzipan ('tis the more appetizing of the two reasons why Lübeck, Germany is on my radar), and would like to know if anyone has had success finding it in HK, either at the above listed places or elsewhere? Thanks. falconea Jul 13, 12, 3:07 pm I haven't found German marzipan in Hong Kong, alas. I do however just order it on-line from niederegger.de - careful matching of weights to shipping costs will save money on shipping.
