Lived in Thailand for 5 years so know what to expect. On the South West Coast that is not the scenario.

The South West coast (i.e. Khao Lak) is very rainy in August. It is the East coast that is dry (i.e. Koh Samui).

Doing a similar thing, starting 2nd of August. A few nights in the Conrad, Bangkok, then down to a friends Condo in Hua Hin for a week. Back up to BKK for a night, then fly down to Samui for a week at the Le Meridien resort, before returning to the Conrad for 2 nights prior to flying home.

At the same time my youngest is going off to work on an elephant sanctuary for 3 weeks before going off backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
