I wanted to book a 2-for-1 rate (http://www.clubcarlson.com/2for1) and I am somewhat confused.
When I am trying to book a 4-for-2 weekend is shows a price for nights one and two and it shows zero for nights three and for.
When I am trying to book a 2-for-1 weekend (Club Carlson Wknd Extend-1Nt-Standard Room) it shows sometimes a price for both nights.
For example the Radisson Blu Plaza in Oslo (Norway), 12-14 Oct 2012:
night 1 is 1,295 NOK,
night 2 is zero. That seems to be ok.
Another example is the Radisson Blu Sobieski in Warsaw (Polen), 12-14 Oct 2012:
night 1 is 370 PLN,
night 2 is 370 PLN (the same rate as the best available). That seems odd because the advanced rate costs only 296 PLN per night.
The 4-for-2 rate, on the other hand, shows in both hotels a price of zero for nights 3 and 4 (e.g. from 8-12 Nov 2012).
Is there something wrong with the 2-for-1 rate?

2 for 1 might not be that cheap because I think Radisson.com is quite high. I found prices that are below half price in third party sites in various hotels in Europe.

It depends, there are hotels where claims are either difficult or yield maybe 40% net discount .... whereas the 2for1 is always 50%. Recently I had a case in Luebeck where 2for1 was the best option. Also, rate claims are sometimes difficult and people don't want to deal with the hassle and/or uncertainty.
I think this is a very nice offer.

That's true. Submitting the BRG claim is a bit more troublesome than other chains. I was checking out for 2 for 1 options in Denmark and Park Inn Hamburg - but it seems that BRG is cheaper for the dates I need.
In order to use the 2 for 1 I'll have to be status matched to Gold level, which is not a problem for me. I'm worried that they won't keep status matching people every year.

I am concierge level and my new card arrived today. :) I was reading through the booklet that came with it listing my privileges and I was interested to see that the 2 for 1 and 4 for 2 weekend offers - which for me is the most valuable part of Club Carlson membership - were not included nor were they listed on the chart in the booklet setting out the red, silver, gold and concierge elite benefits.
I also checked the website and the usual links that appeared for 2 for 1 and 4 for 2 seem to have gone - although I have them bookmarked and they still seem to work.
Can anyone else (maybe gold members) still see the link? If this benefit goes I would not make the effort to keep elite status. :(
Go to members benefits. It's one of the random links in the bottom.
CoweyB
Aug 11, 12, 9:27 am
Shock - this is exactly my issue - it doesn't appear at the bottom.
Clicking on the link it is referred to as a benefit for Gold Elite members - I can only assume that when they introduced Concierge they didn't include it in the view that Gold Elite members get to see.
Can any Concierge members see the link at the bottom of member benefits as Shock and the other Golds can?

Just a thought and apologies in advance ,but I am assuming that you are signed in to Club Carlson when you try and access member benefits page, as no links for 2for1 and 4for2 will appear otherwise.
I am gold and links for these appear on the bottom of the members benefits page as others have noted but only when I am logged in.

Is availability for 2for1 and 4for2 always really bad? It seems like I can't find any availability for either rate in Paris or London at the end of October and beginning of November when I'm traveling.
This would be my first time using either of these rates, so I may just be missing something. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes it's limited availability. There is only 1 hotel in Berlin available for 2 for 1 but with that price it's EUR 190 for 2 nights at Radisson Berlin. IMO it's too expensive when there is not BNG promo.

You can't expect the rate to be available just like that - it's limited and especially when there is something going on in that city.

Indeed - I'd be looking slightly further ahead if you want to take advantage of these types of rates. I've got a weekend away booked in November which I booked a couple of months ago, and am just looking into another for Feb/Mar time.
You may get lucky with short notice availability but I'd assume they only have so many rooms available for these promotions.

There is some availability in Paris for Oct. 26- 28 or Nov. 9-11. The hotel is the Radisson Blu Paris-Boulogne (probably not the one you were hoping for!). It's not in the city center, but near a metro stop. 180 Euros for two nights doesn't seem like a bad deal for Paris...

Thanks for the heads up. I think I accidentally only searched for 1 night earlier which is why it didn't show up.
Unfortunately I need to make a reservation for 3 people, and the bogo option goes away when I switch it to 3 people.
Anyone have experience with getting 3 people into an award room normally only for 2? I've been looking at some places in London for award nights and once you go to 3 people per room there's only one that has any availability. I'm probably gonna call Club Carlson tomorrow and just ask them. The worst they can say is no.

Thanks for the bump. I needed a throwaway hotel in Berlin for 2 nights and the Park Inn Alexanderplatz is available for $125 a.i. Now I can burn 3 award nights at the Radisson Blu for when we'll actually get to enjoy the city.
P.S. I was able to book as a Silver. Doubt they'll kick up any fuss at the hotel

Half of the rooms? I assume you mean half of the nights.
Anyway, this is par for the course. If you look in the rate details, it sayas "second night will not be charged" or something like that. I've stayed on these deals a few timesa and they've always shown rates for all dates in the reservation, but it has never been a problem with payment at checkout.

It seems to vary between the properties how it's shown in the booking engine.
The first answer I got was:
"The rates you are looking at are rates which will be changed at the front desk. We just can not put a zero rate in our system or it will register incorrectly. Therefore, at check-in, if you provide your Club Carlson card, the rate should be changed for you there."
I pointed out the difference between the properties and got his answer:
"Thank you for informing of these differences in our system. We have
escalated your information to attempt to solve this matter."

I booked the 2 4 1 rate and then the reservation at club carlson showed that the second night was EUR 35 and the first night EUR 102. Then I emailed CCI and they passed it on to the property.
They wrote back very quickly:
With reference to your mail, we send you annexed the correct confirmation.
You only have to pay for the first night!
The price for the second night is an internal price history only for us!!!
I know that they probably will adjust the rate, however it's always nice to get a confirmation that I don't have to fight with them when I arrive at 1am!

This is odd as I was expecting at least points for TWO nights of the four... do I have to manually claim these? ...or is it better to wait until the second half of our stay has posted too?

Does the 2-4-1 (I'm gold) promotional rate specifically include or exclude breakfast, or is it property specific ?
Got a good rate @ the radisson blu in Sligo, works out @ 37.50 euro a night per room. I rang the hotel to see if I could add breakfast into the rate but they said that wouldn't be possible and it would just be added at the time at the individual breakfast price.
However, having just rechecked my booking confirmation, I see that the rate details say:-
ROOM DESCRIPTION:
- +/- 30 square metres
- Room type / Bed type / Smoking preference confirmed
- Free broadband
- Buffet Breakfast, VAT and applicable taxes included
Is this a generic message, or is this proof positive that breakfast is included. My doubt is two fold, one that the rate is already cheap, and two that the hotel when queried about breakfast didn't say that breakfast was in the rate.

You only receive points for the paid nights because the points and status bonus are awarded according to the cash value paid. Online booking bonus is for teh first night only, so that is also out.
BUT when it comes to bonuses related to the number of nights, such as the recent "stay more, earn more" promo, every night counts.

Hotels can choose whether to participate to promotions like this. If people start calling and demanding discounts at properties that have decided not to offer this, maybe they just discontinue the whole program?

DW and I got in on the recent 85K offers and we both have about 100K each (and growing) with Gold-Elite statuses. How do I maximize the 2nd night free and/or 4 for 2 deals while planning to visit Europe in 2014? Someone was mentioning if Iw anted same hotel for 4 nights, then to book 1 night on my account get second free and then book 3rd on hers and get 4th free (possible?). Planning eastern Europe to visit many places economically (+2 kids). Please help with your insights.

4for2 and 2for1 are not redemption deals, they are based on cash rates (so if you want 4 nights you have to pay cash, not points, for the first 2 nights and get the last 2 nights free).
Where are you planning on going/staying in eastern Europe?
NB: you can transfer Carlson points for free between accounts, so you can consolidate points into one of your accounts with one phone call.

Oh I see. I confused these deals with the free night when you book 2 or more nights with points deal for Gold Elites (or any level?) I think. I am interested in that one and read somewhere that it is good to work on that with 2 separate accounts with back to back booking to get four nights for 2 paid with points on 2 separate accounts. I don't know where in eastern Europe yet.. Just thoughts for now. Will start planning soon to get in on the 13 months flight availability window.

I'm not aware of that promotion and (despite searching) haven't been able to find it - can you provide a link?

Maybe his thinking about the (US) credit card benefit. One free night on award stays.

Maybe his thinking about the (US) credit card benefit. One free night on award stays.
Thanks - sounds like it (from the T&Cs (http://www.clubcarlsonvisa.com/credit/welcome.do)):
3 Bonus Award Night: When you redeem Gold Points for Award Nights of two or more consecutive nights at the same participating Carlson Rezidor hotel property, you will receive the last of the Award Nights of that stay free without deduction of any Gold Points from your Club Carlson account (“Bonus Award Night”). Your Account must be open and reservation must be in the Club Carlson member’s name and use the member number associated with your Account to be eligible for the Bonus Award Night. The Bonus Award Night offer is available only on advance reservations for Award Nights paid in full with Gold Points and is not valid with standard paid reservations or Points + Cash redemption reservations. Only one Bonus Award Night will be available for a stay of two or more consecutive nights at the same hotel (early checkout with one night stay not eligible), regardless of the total length of stay, the total number of reservations or the number of check-in/check-outs, is subject to availability and all other terms and conditions and cancellation policies regarding Award Nights apply. Does not apply to additional reservations booked as contiguous stays at the same hotel. Only one room per reservation, per hotel for an Award Stay will be eligible to receive the Bonus Award Night offer. Maximum fifty (50) Bonus Award Nights per calendar year per member with an open Account (“Annual Maximum”). If a reservation with a Bonus Award Night is subject to a cancellation penalty, the Bonus Award Night from that reservation will count against the Annual Maximum. A Bonus Award Night has no Gold Point or cash value and cancellations involving a Bonus Award Night will not result in the credit of any additional Gold Points in your Club Carlson account.
Nice benefit, that :)

My 2for1 rates so far have never posted automatically. Am I kinda unlucky?
Last retro claimed stay has correct amount of points but just 1 night credited toward elite status. Does free night count? I didn't pay attention previously.

Reply from Club Carlson which clearly says that only paid nights count towards elite status. It is logical but not so clear.
Thank you for taking the time to write.
The reservation number you provided is showing a 2 nights stay however only one night was paid at a rate of 81 euros. If you did pay for both nights, please forward us a copy of the final bill if you can and we will go ahead and award the points.
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you.

I wanted to add my data point. Me, my husband and 4 children booked 2 nights at the Park Plaza Beijing Wangfujing. We needed 2 rooms, 2 nights...3 people in each room.
They would only let me book the 1 room with points and get one night free...(total of 44K for both nights). The other room I had to book cash and points for 2 nights.

Sorry to be a pain, but this topic is about the "2for1" and "4for2" Weekend extender rates available for gold and concierge level members of CC on most, although not all, CC properties in Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA).
It is not about the free extra night on the recently released CC credit card.
These specific rates allow a second room, but availability is limited and must include a weekend night (in the case of the 2for1) or two weekend nights (in the case of 4for2 rates). Weekend nights in this case are either Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Also, this is not on the T&C but practice says the free nights MUST be weekend nights. Therefore to get a 2for1 rate you must check in between Thursday-Saturday and for a 4for2 rate, on Wednesday or Thursday.

Yes, but does NOT apply to the 2for1 and 4for2 EMEA rates.
These rates work like a "rebate" so all four nights count. Remember you pay full rate in the first one or two nights and that is how it works for the hotels: you pay two regular rates during the week when hotels are usually busy, so they maximize occupation and stay for free on the weekend when most properties are empty anyway, so it's not much of a difference.

I have used 3 2for1 offers over last 6 month and they all have been credited as 1 stay, 1 night.
I already posted Club Carlson representative reply which says that only paid nights count. My last reservation also showed 81 EUR for the first night and 0 for the second. If it would've been 40.50 * 2 = 81, than would be a different story.

I've had 5 stays (PP Utrecht twice, RB Sofia, A'O Budapest and PI Prague) in the last four months and each and every one posted 2 or 4 nights, and all reservations had the last one or two nights as zero.

Planning a stay in Europe this summer, I have seen the 10K points for a weekend Radisson stay of at least 2 nights. Was looking at a Thursday to Monday stay. I hope this EMEA rate qualifies for the promo. Anyone know for sure? Thanks!

For a 4 night stay it shouldn't be a problem, on the thread about the promo here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/club-carlson/1466636-10-000-bonus-points-two-night-stay-complete-7-21-13-a-3.html), the first post reports that it worked with a 2 night stay.
For some reason the 2 night stays (2-4-1) credit one or two nights depending on the cases, so it might not always work.

I imagine this is due to how the hotel codes the stay - if they code it as 50% off rate each night, then it would be 2 nights. If they code it as full rate first night and 0 the 2nd night like how it is shown online thru the 2-4-1 link, it most likely not post.

Could you share the properties in the above posts - I have a sense that this is strictly depending upon how the hotel itself codes the rate for each night - at 50% off, you luck out with 2 nights, at 100% first night and 0 second night, you only get 1 night as it should have been.

like for most other brands, 241 is usually unavailable in city hotels
but no problem for remote / airport hotels...

It's more what an hotel decides to do and in which season..... Some cities are a lot better for availability then others.

well i used to be the marketing manager of a famous international hotel brand
when the head office decides to release a promo, it's really ridiculous if hotels decide on their own not to participate to it
of course not all the properties participated, but at least 75-90% of them or at least during a certain period
otherwise it's a lying promotion

It's probably a good thing you are doing something different now :-).
The 2for1, 4for1 (and F&F) rates are not really one off promotions, they are simply continuous discounted rates for specific targeted audiences and are primarily to fill rooms that have a low demand, e.g. during the weekends in more business oriented hotels.
So it's quite understandable that the hotels themselves are able to set availability. There probably is something like a minimum participation but who's to know really. I know that most hotels do have them quite regularly.
And when you can get them they are a really good deal...... is the sense of entitlement here become so great that we are now demanding these discounts instead of being grateful when they are offered?

i don't think that is the case at all, except maybe for very busy cities, like paris or london. right now i have either used or booked 2-4-1 and 4-4-2 rates in utrecht, prague, sofia, budapest, helsinki, oslo, tallinn, riga, warsaw and birmingahm, all of these very central hotels. i concur with post above, i think we are taking these for granted, which shouldn't be the case. still, planning a few months ahead you should get plenty of options in every city.
just did a quick research and you still can get 4-4-2 rooms for early july in oslo, stockholm, copenhagen, helsinki, berlin, moscow, lisbon... you can get for august in madrid. 2-4-1 rates usually follow the same pattern.
paris, london and amsterdam are obviously out.

I think it really depends on the location of the hotel like some other posters have mentioned. If its predominantly a business hotel, you'll most likely find availability. Take Brussels for instance, difficulty getting the Radisson Blu Royal because its next to the grand palace but the Radisson Blu EU is easily available.
