What's the cheapest way to go from Philadelphia to the cities that I listed in the title of the thread? I'm not familiar with the budget options available. Please enlighten me. Thanks!

Don't know about Gettysburg, but Megabus provides service between Philadelphia and both Harrisburg and Pittsburgh, as well as between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh.

In addition, Amtrak offers frequent service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. The service is subsidized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, so fares are reasonable, but Megabus might still be cheaper.

Agree. Gettysburg probably requires a rental car realistically.

Gettysburg requires a rental car, unless you can find an FT'er in the area to give you a driving tour of Gettysburg. It might be possible to take a CAT or Rabbit Transit bus from Harrisburg to York, and then Rabbit Transit to Gettysburg, but I'm not sure if Rabbit Transit offers service to Gettysburg.

Cheapest might depend on what you want to when you get there. Business meeting? Sight-seeing? Pirates games?

I think any sight-seeing at Gettysburg would require a car or taking a bus tour from Philly. If you have meeting at a specific place in/near Gettysburg, there are shuttles you can take from Harrisburg; the airport website lists them.

Harrisburg: you can both get there and get around with public transit. There might be a sight-seeing bus which includes both cities.

Don't have any info on Pittsburg.

For Pittsburgh, both Megabus and Greyhound can have cheap fares to/from both Philadelphia and Harrisburg (probably $20-50 each way) and there are probably 10 buses a day each way between both companies. Amtrak is also an option, and is nicer, but can be a little more expensive ($40-80).

Depending on what you want to see, Pittsburgh public transport is pretty good if you're staying near the center of the city, but getting around the more rural areas is difficult. They've cut back bus service in the past year or so though, but they are still adequate for popular areas of the city.
