Have never flown AC before, have an upcoming flight in business SYD to PEK. Any experiences? Long night time flight - is it a decent sleeping seat?

Air China is CA, AC is air canada.....

Very new 333, full flat bed, decent food too, Chinese food though, didn't try the western option. But crews can be hit and miss.

I also got my A3 *G from SYD-PEK J return. Very nice.

My recent travels through China reminded me that China was (ok technically still is) a communist country.

As a result, Air China, despite being in the hospitality industry, does not have the same warm and fuzzy feeling as the other Asian carriers such as Asiana, Thai or Singapore Airlines in terms of their service. A bit gruff comes to mind.

I think that if expectations are managed, you won't be at all disappointed.

Mine are much lower for CA than for AC/CX/KE.

I figure since it's a overnight flight, that most important is the seat. seems like a decent flat-ish bed on this route?

Flew CA last month from PEK to SYD and found the flight very pleasant, food and amenities better than UA's F or C...and seats much better than either UA offering too. Lots of leg room, reasonable space between seat pairs. You get slippers and a l'Occtaine amenity kit, nice silk duvet and pillow. Menus are elaborate...Chinese wines not recommended but worth a taste, but French alternatives are on offer. No complaints other than the CA business lounge at PEK is getting better, though not great significantly better than the Shanghai Airlines lounge used by STAR at PVG. Worth trying.

Ah yes, the codes. To make it China related, China Southern is CZ, while Czech Airlines (České aerolinie) is OK. Go figure .... both in SkyTeam FWIW

And Taiwan based China Air is CI

Though they were more or less OK, though nothing to write home about.

Flew PEK-SYD in C recently on the new configuration..

Seat seemed to be identical to TK's new C class seat.. (very good indeed!)

What was not as good was the food/drink/IFE options..

There were only 2 choices of entree on both the Western and Chinese menus.. and the second choice was the same on each.. Not impressed.

Spirits? Gin, GlenFiddich, Vodka. That's all that was listed...

The IFE looked impressive... but the content was less so...

Still.. a seat that comfortable - and with the nicest quilt I've seen on a plane meant it wasn't a bad flight*... just not up to the standard of other airlines. Can't say I was honeslty expecting anything else. The seat itself was a very nice surprise.

*Packaged as "First Class Only" so they may be using up remaining stock...

How about any recent experience on PVG-SYD?

Does it have the new seats similar to PEK - SYD?

Exactly the same seats, in fact some PEK-SYD has a transit stop in PVG as PEK-PVG-SYD
