Air France Frequence Plus - Help with JFK-CDG-MAD-PMI and short connections times in CDG

Hi all. I have done a cursory google search and search of these forums for some info, and have become overwhelmed with airport maps, timetables, and trying to figure this out on my own, so I'm here for extra help.

My trip is next week, and again I am going JFK-CDG-MAD-PMI

1) I don't know how to figure out what terminal I fly into (JFK-CDG on Air France)
2) Nor the outbound flight (to MAD also on AF).

3) I don't know if I need to pick up checked luggage and go through security and/or customs, or if I do this in MAD or if I do this in PMI.

My connection time is only 1 hour in CDG, leaving at 9:35am. From the FAQ sticky, this is not enough time? I just assumed that any itinerary booked for me (through the delta website) would include sufficient connection times, but perhaps that was naive. The sad thing is, I paid more money for this set of flight because it got me into PMI a few hours earlier than some other options, and if I miss a flight along the way, I'll have spent extra money to actually likely arrive later and with more stops and total flight times. :(

Once I know the arrival and departure terminals, I guess I can figure out how to best go between gates.

In a related question, I then go PMI-BCN-ATH on Iberia/Vueling. I assume that since this is all Schengen (a word I basically had never heard until practically today) I do not have to re-do customs when I land in ATH?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sometimes terminals change, but it's likely to be 2E and 2F at CDG. You will go through passport control/immigration and enter Europe there. One hour is tight but possible; TATL flights frequently arrive early. Your checked bags will go through customs (normally you just walk through the green lane with passport in hand and are not stopped, assuming that you have nothing to declare) at either MAD or PMI; luggage should be checked to PMI and do customs there rather than in MAD but pay attention to announcements on your flight in case there's variation. Your bags are likely to appear on a special belt on the far side of the baggage area, perhaps even behind some barricades, so be sure to look beyond the main baggage area for an area for stuff entering the EU that hasn't yet cleared customs. However, IME the sorting isn't perfect, so just look around for your bag to appear; sometimes they only use special tags to identify bags originating outside of the EU and subject to customs checks.

There should not be customs in ATH, but you will show your passport at airports. For the return (I assume AF and DL, ATH-CDG-JFK), you will show your passport in ATH and again do passport control at CDG to leave Europe. Immigration and customs occur at JFK; your bag should be checked through to JFK.

so wikipedia lists an AF departure to MAD as terminal 2F1. So that's one small question answered.

I forgot to mention two things, 1) that my wife is traveling on a different itinerary going JFK-CDG-ATH all on air france. She leaves out of 2D, also with a one hour connection time. So hopefully with your help I can figure out her situation too. She is going to need explicit instructions, she gets flustered very easily and this is her first time really traveling alone.

2) I am Skyteam Elite+ (via delta gold), in case that makes any difference, maybe via priority lines or something.

As SkyTeam ElitePlus, you get lounge access and special lines at CDG. Look for Access No. 1 signs (IIRC to the far left) at passport control. In fact, you can use any SkyTeam lounges before any SkyTeam flight on your (international) itinerary. IIRC you can take your wife into the lounge as your guest if she isn't also ElitePlus on her own.

Why OP would pick up his bag at CDG? If its on one itinerary he will pick it up in Palma.

thanks MSP!

So if I am travelling from within terminal 2 (likely 2E to 2F), this site here (http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/en-GB/Passagers/Access-maps-car-parks/guide-connection-flight/guide-connection-flight.htm) says the way to get between them is to " Aéroports de Paris shuttle".

But it seems in some threads it's also possible to walk between terminals?
also, the sticky says "For a domestic flight or Schengen, departures are from Terminals 2D or 2F: Proceed to the public area and follow the "Correspondance Transfer" signs. Will the "correspondance transfer" direct me to an aeroports de paris shuttle? Or something else? and I assume the shuttle is a bus, as opposed to a tram (like in ATL or DTW for example).

thanks,

sometimes they only use special tags to identify bags originating outside of the EU and subject to customs checks.
Bags that have been checked inside Schengen space have a tag with green bars surrounding the destination information.
All other bags are subject to customs clearence.

Technically, the green bars relate more to the EU (customs), including the UK, than Schengen (passport check). ;)
