US Airways Dividend Miles - Some conjecture: Could the Hop-Skip-Jump promo be back this summer?

OK, it's not likely. But here are two reasons why the promo (http://www.usairways.com/en-US/FAQs/hop_skip_jump_faq.html) could come back:
(1) In 2010, someone at US put in a LOT of time to create that crazy promo. Why let the promo go to waste as a one-time thing?
(2) While it would be silly for US to offer the promo every year (because it would be far too easy for us to get ever-increasing Preferred status!), it makes sense to offer the H/S/J promo on alternate years to keep us "honest."
Just something to chew on.

My guess: highly unlikely. I don't believe it fits with US's long-term strategy for eventually merging Divdend Miles with AAdvantage. I think we're going to see the various shortcuts to status (with the possible exception of trial preferred) disappear, and in their place have more frequent DPQM/ TPQM promotions.
Though anything's possible and we can all hope... HS&J this summer would be fantastic!

I think US will be doing a LOT in the near future to make their books AND their frequent flier profiles more attractive for a potential merge with AA. Think of it as US going on a big diet to make themselves more attractive on wedding day. While I don't see a return of HSJ (although I'd love to see it!) I think we will see more revenue enhancing promotions (club promos, DM sales and some double miles on certain routes).
... the promo (http://www.usairways.com/en-US/FAQs/hop_skip_jump_faq.html) ...
I'm surprised the website link is still active after nearly 2 years - maybe that tells us something :)
Didn't need HSJ then, don't need it now, but I can see what a fun game it was and a big help for others. So here's hoping it does come back to liven things up on this board!

Agreed. But there is no legal/structural constraint preventing the possibility of the HSJ being offered. Heck, the Get Out More promo "could" be back this summer.

Bless you sir! ^
GOM was a beautiful dream that when some of us woke up, was reality.

Would somebody explain what the Get Out More promo was? Methinks it was a wee bit before my time at US :D

i did a quick search and saw something from like 2001 or 2002. long enough ago for it to probably not even be brought up, again :)
i don't see any airlines running promos like we say in 2010. i don't see this one coming back.
what new routes have been introduced by US in the past year or two, anyway? that was the reason for the HSJ promo.

I actually thought the HSJ was a very smart promo. The people who have the ability and motivation to tailor their travel to obtain status are the people you want to give status to.
People who anyways need to fly somewhere are not the ones to give status to.
By targeting all sorts of very specific flights I felt I think they effectively aimed at the former category.
There was no way that I was capable of doing the HSJ. As opposed to the GS that I get 10-15 hits just because I am a business traveler who is already traveling and another 5-10 are simple give aways.
Would somebody explain what the Get Out More promo was? ...
Well, it happened in 2002 ... have a glance at this old post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/1121011-post1.html) and the bonanza of miles that posted.
Ain't happenin' again, but hope is eternal :)

It was 2002, so airlines were running lots of promos to get business travelers back in the air after Sep. 11th. US had a Get out More program where you earned double PQMs (yes PQMs!!!) on every flight after you signed up through the email link. Well, they sent out the emails in batches so there were four (I think) separate email links which turned out to be stackable. For about three or four months I was earning 4X's PQM on top of my 100% bonus as a CP. Do the math on a single roundtrip DCA-PHL-FRA for about $500 upgraded using CP certs. :D
This was during the (relative) early days of FT and pre-blog so I'm guessing the number of people who took advantage was relatively small. If it happened today, even US's IT department would run a fix to eliminate the duplicate bonuses.

That Share Miles promo combined with H/S/J allowed me to "waste" 100,000 miles in 2010 on a LH C award to BUD. I say "waste" because it's a lousy deal, IMO, to spend that many miles to fly to Europe. But since the H/S/J assured (and bumped!) my status through 2/2012, and since we could buy miles with that Share Miles promo for 0.9cpm (:D), it was cheaper for me buy the miles and fly in C to BUD then to purchase a Y fare to BUD!
This year, I have a similar need because I need to fly to MXP in August. But it looks like I'll buy the Y fare to accrue more PQM's rather than spend 100,000 miles on that relatively short hop.

There were actually 5 if you dug around, only 4 of which had PQM miles but they all doubled base miles. I was doing weekly transcons at the time, so with my CP bonus I was earning about 30k/week for the couple of months that it ran. I ended the year at just over 510k elite miles but only 210k BIS miles. If they hadn't stopped rollovers I might still be reaping the benefits.
I still daydream of ice cream sundae carts and XO cookies while earning a free RT with every RT.:)
No, I don't think they will repeat that one. But a properly timed HSJ did get me back to CP for a year with $210 even though I only had about 40 segments for the year. Unfortunately I'm no longer PLT to take advantage of that. My only out now is an AA merger and leveraging my 2M lifetime miles. Flying out of PIT, it's hard to get a lot of segments these days.
EDIT: PineyBob's post reminded me that there was a brief period of other overlapping promos. iirc, I received 9x points for at least a week or two.

I flew back from LAX to BOS about a week ago. I was not on US. I started chatting with the guy next to me, turns out he was a mid-level airline exec; he was not with US. He told me that there has been a slow down in business travel bookings for Q3 and Q4, not catastrophic but noticeable. He said that at least with his airline that they were going to be very conservative with any sort of programs until they see how the market moves.

There was also a triple PQM promo for miles flown if the ticket was bought with a USAir credit card. Was this around the same time as GOM? I remember getting CP for the first time with 3 very cheap trips to Europe (this was before all the extra fees that everyone tacks on today).

Based on the email I got today about 50% more miles on hotels and cars thru 10/31 I'd assume there is no GS this year.... unless they overlap the promos and retool GS. :(

GS is one of the airline's most successful promos - I highly doubt they'll get rid of it, especially as it makes the DM program look more attractive and strong in preparations to merge with AAdvantage.

and especially since they squeeze the restrictions more every year - requiring us to spend more money and think up more schemes to reach 36 or 40 hits

They have been doing this for a summer promo for the last few years.
It has no bearings on other promos

I think they fired the guy for dreaming up a promo that gifted me two Envoy upgrades for $223....
