bmi diamond club - (No) downgrades of DC status levels from June 14th??? Nope, downgrades as normal.

I don't think this was included in any e-mail communications and I haven't seen anyone mention it on this board, but I've just spotted this on the web site:

http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/loyalty-programmes/diamond-club/membership-benefits/membership-benefits.aspx

"Please note, we are implementing a “status freeze”, which means that until further notice no Diamond Club members will be downgraded from their tier level as at 14 June 2012."

I'm vaguely irritated by that. Banked 38000 status miles for keeping my Gold status. My renewal date is 14 June. Gah. Oh well.

(Mods - can you change the thread title to make this thread subject clearer)

"All DC status levels (blue, silver, gold) frozen from June 14th"

Thanks...

Yet another strategy to make crediting to Diamond Club a fruitless exercise.

Why?

The freeze is to protect anyone from a downgrade in status. If you are after Gold status and are currently short, you can still credit on a bmi flight and to be upgraded to Gold.

Not fruitless for those trying to hit a higher tier of status at the moment.

The title of this needs updating as status levels are not completely frozen and it is actually no downgrade in status level.

Does this mean anyone with Silver now has until the end of the DC programme to get enough status miles to get to Gold, and then match to BAEC?

I once had my 12 month period for earning points to get from Sliver to Gold extended to 15 months. If they have set everyone's end date out by (say) 12 months that'd have a similar effect.

Sitting on 42K waiting for lifetime gold in August!

Congratulations - you just made lifetime gold!

As did all current bmi golds, myself included!

This ending of status downgrades means that anyone who is now Gold in Diamond Club will remain Gold forever*.

(You do realise that lifetime Gold won't get you anything more than "ordinary" Golds when you status match to BAEC? And that Diamond Club will have ceased to exist by this time next year?)

*forever - for all eternity, or until Diamond Club is wound up, whichever happens first.

Yes, indeedy!

But realistically, you probably only have a few months.

How does one get downgraded from Blue??? :D

colmc
Jun 15, 12, 7:28 am
You became Blue Minus. During the good old days, Blue Minus passengers had to by a sandwich, Kit-Kat and drink (excluding Ribena) for the cabin crew in exchange for being allowed on board ;)

irishguy28

Blue Minus - for ever!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suMaFXb7uPc)

So, instead of "Buy on Board" service, it was a "Buy In Order To Be Allowed On Board" service.

Neat!

That's nothing to sneeze at. In theory, this should allow me to hold off my status match until November even though I'd normally lose Silver status in October, but yesterday's changes shook my confidence in this whole status match thing. Maybe BA will pull the match overnight because they've had enough conversions? Who knows?

For quite a while the running joke on these boards was that lifetime gold was for the lifetime of BD, rather than the member. I don't think any of us foresaw quite this situation. M&M HON Circle, perhaps, but never BAEC Gold.

Seriosuly though, with the opportunities for crediting flying to Diamond Club diminishing by the day, it's hardly any wonder they are freezing everyone's status.

Raffles
Jun 15, 12, 9:55 am
In theory this is a very good deal for anyone who has an earlier BD year than BA year. They can now delay matching until their BA year ticks over, and thus get 23 months of status rather than 12 and a bit.

Eg BMI Gold exp July and won't renew, BA Silver exp Aug. A match just before the BMI expiry gets 13 months BA Gold, but they can now do it in Sep and get 23 months.

At a guess, I have a feeling that the only agreement really stopping BA from shutting down DC almost immediately is the MBNA cards.

...this should allow me to hold off my status match until November even though I'd normally lose Silver status in OctoberOr, as BA could find themselves being asked to match DC members who would have lost the status they are asking BA to match had DC not frozen, yes I am wondering does this mean things will accelerate even sooner to the close of DC. And possible pull of the offer by BA. Am I being too pessimistic?

Just a thought about DC future. IIRC, bmi regional will retain the bmi name and website. At the end of the summer timetable, is it possible that DC, in some form, would revert to the new owners of bmi regional and that would be the cut off date for all transfers to BAEC?

GoldCircle

It would be nice to see a BD Regional/FlyBE merger.

...and then watch IAG buy it LOL.

Imagine what it must be like for the ex-BMed crew changing their wardrobes back and forth!

Re lifetime BD Gold, I was a bit surprised that they didn't make some token gesture to acknowledge them. A couple of upgrades, or a 2 year status match. After all it's not as if they all got lifetime gold and stopped flying. Probably many remain high value customers.

If they match on the right day, they do get a 2 year match ( well, 23 months), as does everyone else. Plus a year as Silver, so 3 years of lounge access etc.

But what the betting there will be no New DC cards with the 2013 Date on them dispatched. So expect Hassles at many *A Lounges.

PS I'll give everybody Gold Status when I dont have an Airline.

My mum has a "problem" with her DC Account (currently Silver). She sent a boarding pass for a flight taken before the credit closure of Star Alliance flights (TG flight in April) which has been credited in the wrong class. This has been corrected now, but the status stays the same with much more than the needed 38k for Gold. Usually this will has been updated over night, but it has not happened yet.

Is the status freeze also valid for upgrades? Is there an email address where she can send the request to correct the status?

Thanks in advance
Chris

No. Upgrades in status should still happen.

All the relevant contact details for Diamond Club (and you may prefer to call for this query) can be found at www.flybmi.com - under "About Us"/"Contact Us". Use the Diamond Club/Loyalty Programme contacts, not the other general sales/reservations etc. contacts.

Bit of a problem here. For a relative I was reassured about the status freeze for the status match given their status expired at the end of June. So I said you don't need to rush. Oh-oh, it seems that this was all an error and was withdrawn because 'it's still possible to earn status miles on bmi Regional'.

Now with all the great contacts going not sure how I can pull this off. If they had applied for the status match before the end of they would have got BA Gold and now its just Silver.

As a bmi vet I should have known...

If you're really lucky you might be able to get Joanna to work her magic as she's still officially employed by bmi for a few more days. But in reality she may be way too busy and also many companies restrict access to systems for leavers.

Nicci (BA Executive Club) is another good contact. Show her this thread (she may not be aware that bmi were going to do a status freeze) and I suspect that a gold match will then still be possible.

the one thing I would like my card for (Gold till end May 2013 but no card sent) is the Fast Track at Edinburgh Airport. Came through this morning and they have covered up the "when flying on a bmi flight" so Diamond Club Gold can use the fast track on a BA ticket (which I did with no issue)

I have heard back from Joanna who says this is a no-go! Quite disappointed really as I could have applied for him before the deadline to get a Gold match. I guess this is a lesson in getting your info from FT. They say it was only on the website for a few hours, but I think it was longer than that judging by the posts here.

Quite surprised DC weren't willing to extend it by two weeks in order to get the match. (Just to be clear of course, the expiry was the actual, not the old Star cards).

Next stop Nicci!

CheeseToastie
Jul 10, 12, 8:02 am
OK just to be absolutely clear about this, is it the case that the official word from DC is that status levels are NOT frozen at all?

This could be quite a big deal for people hoping to delay a status match into BAEC to maximise their time as BA Gold - if the delay takes you past your DC renewal date (NOT your card expiry date) then you need to make sure you've requalified as BD Gold for the new year otherwise you're getting downgraded.

Sorry if this is obvious but it seems worth highlighting as it's not the assumption many people will have been working under.

hugolover
Jul 10, 12, 10:34 am
To be absolutely clear. Status is NOT frozen. I've had this confirmed by Jo. Reason: possibility to earn status miles on Regional.

I'm sure Jo's hands are tied with this, but looking through the thread more closely and even my own comment it was definitely there TWICE and not just for a few hours as DC have claimed. I say "hands tied" because normally DC would hold their hands up and say "yes, it was an error but considering its only two weeks since the expiration we can make an exception".

I have been (or to be more honest, a relative-mine is Nov) stung, based on my bad advice based on FT.

I will write to Nicci and see what she says, perhaps others want to do the same for those in the same boat.

Yes, it definitely came/went/came/went.

I think they should honour the offer they (mistakenly) made. By their own logic only a few people (who saw it in those hours) would benefit from it. There will be some who read about it on here and try it on, but even then...

Try Tweeting your annoyance at their on/off stance. Seems to have worked wonders for others in the past.
