I am a newbie at the miles game.
Just got the card and wanted to see how i go about booking a flight when my miles post.
I will be flying SAN to ATL... want to use the $99 companion pass too (traveling with the wifee), how do i go about booking these tickets?
Also on the cc, it doesnt have my US Airways rewards number, do I have to sign up for one?
Thank you in advance for your assistance

I think your questions have been addressed in other posts previously but I'll respond since I have nothing much else to do at the moment. I hope my answers help and/or are correct.
1. You'll need the paper certificate to book the $99 companion fares (I don't remember but I'm guessing it was mailed with your card?) and then you need to book x days in advance and use before this date and fly before that date and then there are a long list of black-out dates. The FA's make it sound so much nicer in their pitch! :) Anyway, you need to call US to book these tickets over the phone and for the companion(s) just pay $99 plus taxes (I think the taxes based on the original flight amount though).
2. Even though I provided my DM number when I applied, my card came with a new DM number embossed on it so I called US and had them merge my "old" DM account into the one on my card since I felt it was easier than asking Barclay's to send me a new card with the correct DM number. You should probably check with DMSC to see how many Dividend Miles accounts you have because your sign-up bonus miles had to go somewhere - hopefully to your existing account otherwise they might've created a new one for you (like they did for me) and put them there. Barclay's should be able to help you clarify what number they have/are using.

Your post suggests "got the card (assume CC)" then "booking flight" + " us $99 companion pass" = 2 roundtrips for $99!....doesn't quite work that way.
I hate to burst the bubble the FA/salesperson created but a few caveats that are detailed elsewhere in this forum. 1) can't combine award ticket with companion pass, 2) minimum $250 paid tkt required to use companion, 3) I believe the regular CC first purchase bonus is 15K miles, which won't get you anywhere. Another 10K if you do a balance transfer. Then you have to find an award at the "low" rate. Not always easy.
On a more positive note - these cards are still a pretty good deal. My "wifee" and I use all 4 companion passes annually from our 4 cards. Great for the expensive flights. Still accrue PQMs and EQMs.

Oh, good catch! Glad someone around here is paying attention. I was thinking in terms of my own life and traveling with my family and combining an award with a paid ticket and companion passes to get everyone somewhere inexpensively.
I agree though, those FA credit card pitches would be so much better if they weren't allowed to deviate from a standard card so as not to mislead people (intentionally or otherwise).

just spoke to customer service, they said that you cannot use dividend miles to book a flight, and use the $99 companion pass ticket.
you have to book a ticket for $250 or more and pay for it, then the $99 companion pass will work.
this cc churn was not a good one afterall

Oh, it actually is. You have to know how to use it. That $99 companion cert can save you HUNDREDS.

It is for us. For those who just want free stuff, the thought of paying anything is a no-no. All of it has to be free. And on LH F always.

Same here, last year (my first year), used the cert for two tickets where the original flight was around $600, and this year, the same. (Roa->PBI last year, and Roa->SFO this year), and both of the vacations would be done anyway, so the card saved a lot for us..

I don't remember the companion passes coming home with the application... Can I call up Barclay and they can rush it to me?
Also, when do my bonus miles post to my account?

IIRC, the companion pass (singular - but usable for 1 or 2 companions on the same flight) will come a month or so after the card. I don't believe you can get it expedited.

called customer service today and companion vouchers cannot be expedited...
i have a wedding in sept and airfare is going up by the day, had to book through orbitz, not happy paying 330/ticket but it could be worst...
wait for companion tickets to arrive end of July, us airways won't have flights available for the dates i need, and orbitz tickets shoot up to 600/ticket....
bite the bullet and charged the flights....never satisfied when i have to pay cash and not use miles :(

Why couldn't you book using miles? I looked now and even if you were completely inflexible on your dates, you could've flown for 35K (40K - 5K card discount). +/- 1 day each way would've dropped you to the 25K RT tier.
Sounds like you freaked out when prices rose. It's 3 months out. The airlines hope that people in your situation freak out and buy. In the next month or two, prices will drop, and the miles redemption rate may drop as well. If you are impatient, the miles game won't pay off well for you.
