Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - How long does it take to activate my mileage plan number?

I have a flight tomorrow. I tried to check in for my flight and realized that I don't have a AS mileage plan card so I signed up for one. I took my generated number and plugged it in but it keeps giving me an error "Confirm the Alaska Mileage Plan number that was entered."

My guess is that even though I registered online, it takes some time for it to become active in the system so my web check in is not recognizing it yet.

I suppose I can just wait until tomorrow and check in at the airport since I already have seats.

But does anyone know how long it takes before I can check in online?

Have tried checking in by using the PNR (confirmation code) instead? Even non-mileage plan members can use online checkin. Also you can credit your miles to any of AS's partners, including AA which I see in your profile. When entering your mileage plan number in a reservation online, just select the airline program followed by the number.

Hope this answers your question.

Sabre (the system AS uses for its reservations) can take upwards of a couple of weeks to recognize a level-up in status (i.e. moving from 0 status to MVP--it can be a couple weeks before the res system allows you to choose from the elite seats), so it's conceivable that there could be a couple of weeks before Sabre recognizes a new Mileage Plan number, too.

I'd proceed with OLCI without entering your Mileage Plan number and see if an agent can add it at the airport tomorrow. If not, save your BPs and submit them after your flights at https://www.alaskaair.com/mileageplan/ssl/CreditRequest/CreditRequestStart.aspx.

+1 to this. If you have earned 850k AA miles and have zero AS miles, it's likely that AA miles will be worth more to you than AS miles. AS flights earn exactly like AA flights in AA's program (both redeemable and elite-qualifying miles).

ETA: Oops; I see I responded to a 3 day old post about "tomorrow". Mea culpa.

interestingly enough, when i went into just looking up my reservation, i was able to add my mileage plan number so it showed up on my boarding pass, etc.

when checking in, it didn't work (kept giving me an error).

however, i got back on monday and the flight credit isn't on my account. i filled out a form asking for credit so we'll see how it goes.

i did put miles on my AA account before but starting now i plan to use my alaska account and try to build up to MVP status.
