Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Unable to "hold" SQ metal award seats

Historically (as late as last week), I have always been able to hold SQ award seats on SQ metal flights for as much as a month (depending on how close my travel date was). Ofcourse, this was never applicable for Star Alliance award seats.

I called in this morning to the SIN call centre and was advised that they can no longer hold confirmed award seats on SQ flights. Basically if its available you have to ticket immediately. This came as a rude shock to me as I have found this perk very useful especially if you are transferring points from AMEX MR to KF. I was able to get an exception for this time and they said they would hold it for 3 days.

I was wondering if any of you had the same experience recently - if so that's bad news :td:

They used to be able to - up to 72 hours.
I have not tried recently. I would like to hear too.

Kaushik ji, may be you want to call again. May be another agent is more accommodating?

This is pretty much industry standard now. Ticket if available.

Although disappointing, i can't see how in these tight times, should a carrier be providing something that costs them money, when few others (most Star Alliance, British Airways) do not provide.. My personal opinion.

This is so annoying. It is so difficult to set up awards and then on top of that there are no holds.

They use to hold Star Alliance award bookings for 72 hours but this month seemed to have changed policy to instant ticketing !

I guess UA & US will have to follow suit.

You can still hold Star A bookings for upto 72 hours. Although they do threaten you at the time of reservation that seats are "not guaranteed" and that the airline can take back the seats any time. But, I've never had my seats taken back within the 72 hour window.

I think what they are referring to is that during the tge hold period an airline can cancel a flight and not have any obligation to Redbook you
