Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Award validity and waitlist questions

Hi everyone, am looking at booking my first award travel with SQ very soon and just have some questions that I'd like to ask please :)

1. I understand validity of award saver is 6 months. Is this the same if I was to book only an one-way, and is this from the date of flight or from date of ticketing? E.g. if I was to redeem a ticket for travel on 1 July, on 1 June, does the 6 months free date change begin from 1 June or 1 July? Can the date be moved forward?

2. With waitlist bookings, I'd like to waitlist a particular date, but would I get a choice to accept/decline when it clears? Or am I pretty much set if I waitlist for it? Am thinking may be better off to just purchase a ticket if the waitlist takes a few days but don't want to do that if a waitlist is a compulsory redemption if and when it clears.

Thanks very much for any help!

I presume you are looking to use SQ KF miles for these bookings.

1. Validity is always from date of first departure flight - so the question of validity of a one-way ticket doesn't arise.

2. Waitlist clearing in no way obligates you to ticket the booking (unless of course you've already ticketed another confirmed date and have the waitlist as a back up for another date). You can choose not to ticket once waitlist clears.

Without knowing where and when you are trying to go it's hard to say when a waitlist may clear. SQ typically release seats for award travel closer to the date of departure mainly because they like to fill it with revenue passengers first. So if say you are looking to fly in December, you may not get award seats release till maybe a month before and hence your waitlist may not clear anytime soon.

Thanks for the reply kaushik123. What I actually meant with this question was that if say I wanted to change the departure date of this one-way ticket, do I have to change it to a date within 6 months of date of ticketing or departure? Or are you saying that I can change date of a one way flight to whenever I wish as there is no validity restriction?

Thanks.

You can change the date of a one-way ticket within 6 months of the date of the outbound flight. (using your example, 6 months from 1 July). And of course, you can move forward your outbound flight but I think this will subsequently move the validity date forward but I am not sure.

As for waitlist, when it clears, they will notify you to confirm. You can always decline.
