Luxury Hotels - Where to escape Bangkok heat to closest and best luxury hotel?

In Bangkok and the heat has won and we are tired. Where is the closest and best luxury hotel/location to escape heat? We are willing to fly from BKK if necessary but came all the way from USA and have to return through BKK.

Really depends I suppose on what you count as escaping the heat and how far you want to travel.
Tokyo is quite a bit cooler in the low 20's at the moment.
Hong Kong is a bit cooler perhaps but will still be very hot and humid. Many of the places within a couple of hours from you will all be very hot and humid at the moment.
London is pretty cool at the moment.

Bali would be a bit cooler. I was in Tanjong Jara Resort (Malaysia) in June one year and the seabreezes helped.

Bhutan or Kathmandu are options - though Kathmandu only has decent - but not really luxury - hotels.

The pool isn't very memorable..... Threads have discussed the ROI for Tented Camp as being weak. If you want a short hop a Pool Suite at Four Seasons Chiang Mai is "worth it", if you ask me.

I'm not sure CM would be any cooler. You've got one thing going for you - rainy season is starting up. The rain will cool things off and it looks like it starts up Sat. Go hang out in the shade at the jungley pool at the Sheraton Grande until then. wj

Samui should be fine- head to the Four Seasons or Six Senses- it is not supposed to rain until Monday so will be nice for a weekend of relaxation.
Flying time is 1 hour- take Bangkok Airways "Blue Ribbon Class".

Cool and close are kind of inconsistent. Bali (Ubud) might be the best bet. Was at FS Tented Camp last month. Very nice but not worth the money IMHO.
If a pool and ocean are sufficient for cooling purposes, you might try Phuket (Trisara as Amanpuri is closed in June).
I'd probably go for Bali. You can do mountain biking, rafting or climb Mt. Batur all of which will cool you down.

You need to go to the mountains for cool weather (but also rain in some areas). Kunming, Kathmandu both 2-3 hr flights Paro longer as they make a quick stop in India.

In which case the OP will most likely need a visa which is difficult to attain on a weekend.
To be realistic and helpful the op has 3 nearby choices:
Samet
Samui
Phuket
Samui is supposed to have OK weather this weekend and does have two good luxury hotels.

I see the point - though KTM is visa on arrival. If the OP wants to stay in the heat Hua Hin might be a better choice?
Samui for sure.
tons of really great resorts there, right now its not high season so you get something for your money.
I cant list all of the good ones here, but Baan taling ngam for example is perfekt, a bit in the mountains, great pool, nice villas at the beach and a great restaurant.
If you really want to spend tons of money choose "W" or some of the other 600$ and up a night places.
If you want the "old" feeling of the islands, take the ferry from samui or private speed boot to koh phangan, also luxury there but not as crowded as samui + you get the real deal with 30$ nice and clean villas right at the beach, with A/C and so on.
Diving in the best water ? Go further to Koh Tao.
Problem solved.
Flight from BKK to USM about 150$ return, ferry 5-10$ to both islands

I love Samui, was there last June at Napasai and Banyan Tree. But it was so very humid.

Staying at Conrad and I would still be raving about the place right now if it were not for getting over charged for dinner at Jade. Everything else about the place is great.

Excellent news.
Overcharged as in different from what the menu said, or overcharged in the sense that the prices are out of line?? In general my big complaints about Samui (and they are very very little in the big scheme of things) are:
1. Ludicrous taxi prices that require advanced negotiation skills
2. Overpriced restaurants which provide poor value
Other than that Samui is very good.
