My sister-in-law broke her foot recently, and she is slowly healing. We live in Ottawa ON.
She had the specialist sign a form to get an Ontario (Canada) disability sticker/decal.
She wants to fly with myself and my wife to Hawaii (she got the okay from the specialist she can do this). Can she get a reciprocal disability sticker/decal, in Hawaii?

If she has the type of car disabled sign that hangs from the rear view mirror, it will likely be usable in Hawaii.
You will probably get much more informed answers if you post this in the "Disability Travel" section of the forum.

While this doesn't specifically mention Canada, it does appear it is not that hard to get a temporary sticker. Just stop in City Hall.

What does said sticker provide?
If it's similar to the "handicap" parking permit it would probably be quite a hassle to get as you'd have to apply in the state you want it in and then wait for the bureaucracy.
Add-on: The site above states you need a letter from an MD licensed in the State of HI so that would seem difficult for you. You can always drop her off with your wife where you're going and then park the car. We do that with my mother so she can smoke cigarettes without it being blown in our faces before dinner.

From the website mentioned above:
Travelers
Many disabled folks worry that mainland states will not accept their Hawaii disability parking placard. However, a Hawaii placard is valid in other states as long as it is current and the disabled person is driving or is a passenger in the vehicle. Just make sure to bring along the actual placard and not a photocopy, and you are set. Also, Hawaii honors out-of-state placards that are current.

Thanks.
PS-I presume, as my heading states, that all 50 US states and DC as well as all 10 Canadian provinces and 3 territories adhere to this principle of reciprocity?

The exception to this is Florida which has additional rules of what is required to park at most airports and ports. Better check this out if it is an issue.
The US and Canada have full reciprocity, as they are both member countries of a European Conference of Ministers of Transport resolution on the mutual recognition of parking permits.
As oldpenny16 points out, some jurisdictions in the US have additional restrictions. New York City is another one. This isn't a reciprocity issue as they discriminate against Canadian and US permit holders equally!

Yes. However, in some cities you are not exempt from paying parking meters. In most you can park for free, but not all.

I have used my parents permits (ON issued permanent 5 year ones) in HI without any problem. Even the tour van driver in Kona and Hlilo used it while touring with us and a few others.
This applies to marked disable parking spaces.
