Emirates Skywards - Can I get anything out of this

I am arranging a multi country visit in a few weeks (UK-DXB-MCT-DXB-MRU-DXB-UK) for 8 people (economy unfortunately). Most of them are not FFs (I am but have no status yet as until recently Emirates didn't fly to Vietnam where a lot of my work travel was). I was wondering whether as the organiser I could get anyting out of the booking (eg upgrade) - we are mostly on the same flights although soem people are getting later flights form Manchester, one is not going to Oman and two of us are breaking our journey back in DXB.

Get everybody signed up for Skywards through the referral promotion and you will get some miles for them traveling.

In regards to getting an upgrade for booking them all, not a chance.

You could try getting comped to EK Gold and then hope for an upgrade...

If you're still coming to Vietnam I'm not sure I'd recommend EK. If I do fly EK again I'm going to take the A380 to BKK and swap to Thai. The annoying timing and the hopeless hard product don't make up for the nonstop flight, IMV.

on almost all airlines, including EK, group travel benefits kick in at parties of 10 or more with the normal discount meaning the organiser travels for free.

Will do the referral to get some points for me.

Wasn't wanting everyone upgraded but it would be nice if I was (I'm breaking my journey in Dubai)

Not sure I understand the nonstop flight point - I assume that you are assuming I am flying from London (not sure why people assume that) I have to fly via somewhere and the choices are Paris, Doha, Dubai or Heathrow. Paris works well in terms of timings but as my work is moving towards destiantions that AF doesn't serve (eg Sri Lanka) I want to try to get all my travel on one airline to get status (rather than spreading all my points around three airlines)

Anyone know how I can get the referral bonus? Can't find a link on the skywards website.

You brought up the new DXB-SGN flight. I was saying not to bother with it.

I'm not trying ot be awkward or anyting but I genuinely don't understand why I wouldn't bother with the Emirates option? The only options for me are goign via Paris, Heathrow or the Middle East - in my book the two flights (via Dubai) beats three via Bangkok and somewhere in Europe.

Plus Emirates fly to more of my destinations so I will get gold with them by October.

Sorry if I'm coming across a little obtuse, but just my opinion. I've flown DXB-BKK-SGN/HAN heaps of times, and have tried the direct DXB-SGN, and there's no way I'd do it again for the reasons I stated:

- Terrible hard product - the A332 has the old, not particularly comfortable J seat, no in-seat power, and the old IFE with about 20% of the choice of the Boeings/A380

- Annoying flight times - ensuring you can't do any work in Dubai before you leave, or in Vietnam once you arrive

Compare that to the A380 from DXB to BKK, and as long as TG are playing ball with connections, the stopper is far more pleasant.

Of course if you are connecting into Dubai as well, the time might not be as bad for you.

ETA: Of course, DXB-BKK and DXB-SGN earn the same miles as well.

If you get an Arabian Airpass you can fly premium to MCT and other ME destinations for cheap if you fancy.

Just referred two people last Wednesday and they flew Friday. I checked my skywards and 3000 points were there.

I thought I should share this info with the forum as am sure some of you are curious.

This friends and family promotion is gr8
I have referred people AFTER they have taken the flight. They signed up using my referral and claimed missing miles. I got the bonus 1500 points the second they were credited with their miles!

So if you have 8 people or so, that's 12000 miles for getting them signed up, Not bad at all IMV!

Sent them the referral but none actually got it - probably bounced by work spam filter
