I am taking the family to Germany and Austria through the mountains. I am renting at FRA. I need space for 4 plus 6 bags but I don't want something too unwieldy on the mountain roads. Any ideas on what to rent. I see listed a VW minivan, a MB E class wagon, a C class sedan, and an intermediate wagon.
Any input would be appreciated, as we all know, what they have on the lot typically could be very different from the pictures.
Also, is there any good upgrade PC out there for Germany currently?
Thanks.

Why don't you try the E category (Opel Zafira or similar) these are compact minivans with plenty of space while reasonably sized for European roads and parking lots

Thanks for the help, are they larger than the Ford Mondeo?

Depends what you call larger, Ford Mondeo is longer but offers less space inside.

I would take the Mercedes E class wagon. Lots of trunk space and pretty good for the German Autobahn. ;)

I will second the Eclass wagon ,they are nice to drive and have plenty of space, they should have them at FRA otherwise you might get an suv M class/X5/thing. A Zafira is not a fun drive

How would the E class wagon do in the mountains? Is it too large?

You will not have any problems in the mountains with an E-Class.
Mondeo wagon is pretty good, too... have had one from Hertz (not in Germany). My carry-on suitcase looked pretty lost...
If the bags aren't too big (i.e., four suitcases plus two carry-ons) then a Mondeo will be fine. E-Class wagon is the same as in the US (except you'll probably get a diesel four, rather than a six-cylinder engine) so you could always try one for size before you go.
If however all you want is space, a Mondeo is as good as an E-Class. I have also had a Ford S-Max, which is a tall Mondeo and was only in the intermediate/automatic category when I rented it. (That said I do think I got lucky).
