Hey, I was wondering if you guys could give me any tips on the best times to book flights.
I am looking to fly to see my girl friend in mid July.
I'd like to go for about 4 weeks. I must be back before August 15th for exam results.
My normal route is NCL-CDG/AMS-DTW/ATL-ROA.
Is there a certain time that's best for the lowest priced tickets? Especially with it being transatlantic.
Thanks!

July is high season - and only weeks away. You probably should have started looking some time back. BA was runninga sale from the UK recently in economy but I think you may justhave missed it - go to ba.com immediately!
If you were to splurge on business class, this is a very quiet period and there are good offers from the UK to North America at the moment on BA and Lufthansa.
Your dedication to AF/KL is remarkable, when I keep advising you, as a relatively infrequent flyer, to just go with whatever airline is currently offering the cheapest tickets.
3 suggestions:
1. get on matrix.itasoftware.com and start playing with itineraries and dates to determine the best-priced candidates
2. Talk to STA Travel or whatever travel agent is on your campus to see if there are any last-minute student deals
3. Read the Sunday papers - all the ticket consolidators advertise in the main papers and you may find a good deal.
Same advice I always give you when you post variations on the same request!

I've often found AF/KL to be the cheapest.
STA Travel, every time I have checked have been way higher than the main online booking tools.
Thanks for your help. I forgot about ita. I'll be sure to check that!

You might play around with dates for travel TATL leaving from London. If you can leave when people are arriving for the Olympics, for instance, you might find some good fares. DL has the reconfigured 767-400s on most of these routes (IIRC except BOS) and you could connect without going through continental Europe. These are nice planes and have flat beds in BE with aisle access (1-2-1 seating in BE) if you decide to splurge for a good business class sale.
