Just been told that the Hilton Vilamoura is now charging for the use of sunbeds at their beach bar. 10 Euros for up to 4 hours and 15 Euros per person for a full day. I think that this is penny pinching of the highest order. I booked this hotel on the basis that we had this facility for free on each of the last 2 visits. Very disappointed !!!

This could be a real issue for families travelling on a budget.

That's a bummer, we have an upcoming stay here and if this is true I'm looking at a €20-30 bill every day we head to the beach

Poor form, but not surprising.

We have stayed at Hilton Vilamoura a few times and also think it has gotten worse. When we stayed there in early spring, they has switched to the system of providing all guests with one towel card a person, which can be exchanged for 1 pool towel, getting an extra towel is impossible (my wife likes to use one as pillow or to cover her legs when the sun is strong). When returning a towel, you could get another one or your towel card back. (last fall, we could just take towels as needed).

What even annoyed me more was that the pool attendants insisted on charging my parents like 30 euros a person for being near the pool, when they came over from a different hotel to join us for dinner (where we intended to go in about half an hour). Anyone near the pool either needs to have a towel card, a hotel pool towel or is charged... No flexibility there. Only after I went to talk to someone at the hotel reception, they reluctantly made a one time exception.
As a result, we decided to not have dinner in the hotel but elsewhere instead.

(as a side note, they also seem be be saving money by cutting back significantly on the heating of the pools at the 7-Spa)

At the buffet breakfast my kids had a roll each in hand when departing the breakfast room, the manager came over and made a scene in front of everybody that nobody can take any food from the breakfast area - when I asked him why he was taking these actions he said it was based on cost, and if he wanted more rolls we could purchase them - when I told him we had spent 4k in total at this stage and he wanted another 50c I would do it. I told him to tell my 2 year old and 5 year old and then made them give the half eaten rolls back to the guy, which led to tears (kids) and anger (parents).

I made it my business to meet the GM later that evening and told him as a result we had no intention of ever staying there again. He came out with a lot of hotel school talk and really did not improve the situation.

I do not recommend this hotel anyway, no views, a long way from the beach, expensive drinks and food, and asses of staff.
