Qantas Frequent Flyer - BA Gold/OWE flying QF domestic in Y

Hi,

I have a couple of questions. As a OWE card holder it appears that I can assign myself seats in Y but the first two rows are blocked off. Is this for QF frequent flyers?

Is it also true that I am restricted to the economy luggage allowance despite being OWE?

Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Corrrect. Increased baggage isn't a OneWorld status benefit.

The first two rows are blocked off for CL and WP1 (ultra high-tier QF FFs).

Check back 80 hours before departure - other seats should open up and there is a chance you will get in the front two rows.

Thanks both. Can anyone advise what domestic business class is like on the 767 and the 737? Is it a bigger seat? Worth the additional cost on a 3 hour flight? The QF website is light on details!

FYI your GGL doesn't commute in this scenario. In terms of seating, to Qantas you're a plain old Gold, not GGL. Qantas' direct equivalent Platinum One does get access to the first two rows (above and beyond normal emeralds) but as others have said you will have to wait for OLCI to snap up a front row seat.

Domestic business class is a very good product in my opinion, ignoring price. The seat is basically domestic first class of an American carrier with a 38inch pitch and mechanical lumbar support and footrest. Lunch and dinner meals are two stars above the BA Club Europe experience (make sure to avoid the 'refreshment' flights). I genuinely enjoy the food I have to say, great fusion. The difference between 737 and 767 is that 737 would on average be a newer aircraft with brighter interior but significantly smaller cabin, read space, versus 767. The seats are identical, besides small chance of a 2011 onward 737 having IFE or an international 767 having with 1990's international business class seat (1-2-2 vs 2-2-2 normally).

Personally I prefer sitting right up the back of the gritty 767 on a midday/late evening flight. There's no one immediately around you, great sense space, no one disturbing you and just a few heads interrupting the view.

Thanks. I hag guessed that as GGL is nothing to do with OW. I am amazed that I get no luggage benefit though. Had assumed this was a published OW benefit but I understand that it is not.

Business class seating is normally the same on the 737 and the 767. Seats are, unlike BA, different seats to economy with 20" width and a 38" pitch ; if you are v lucky , you may get a 767 with deamtime seats in a 1-2-2 layout with a 50" pitch

Whether it is worth the higher cost is somethng only you can assess; Qantas business class tends to be generally overpriced imo and would also suggest checking out Virgin's business prices which I find to be often quite a bit cheaper. What is the economy fare and what is the business fare on the route you are checking

I think especially in this competitive environment that we'll see more enhanced beyond code-share ventures ala AA/BA/IB, with additional luggage etc as embattled carriers fight for survival. Watch this space.

Watch this space.Oneworld has resisted this for a decade (as an alliance benefit), and has some truly bizarre policies. For example, despite having "stringent" requirements for membership (such as EI needing to spend EUR 10 million to accomodate JL joining Oneworld -- despite virtually no interlining between the airlines, causing EI to quit OW). Yet today AY doesn't have a baggage interline agreement with RJ (whle most IATA carriers do). Very bizzare approach to baggage by Oneworld!

I doubt that that was the reason, EI was already on a downward spiral to becoming an LCC, and membership of OW was hindering the process. I think that they were looking for an excuse to leave.

I agree. The whole, l am a OWE on X Airline, but can't utilise this on Y airline can get confusing at times.
Why not just do what Star have done? KISS

Why not just do what Star have done? KISS It is KISS - there is no entitlement to extra baggage under OW rules, plan accordingly and you will be fine.

The fact that some OW airlines will give you extra baggage is a bonus, but not an entitlement.

Yes....I'd pick 767. IMO better than CE.
