What is the minimum number of rooms to be a member? Or does such rule exists?
Also any opinions on current member hotels, feel that standards have been lowered, some hotels should not be there at all.

It's a varied group that includes some historic and iconic independent properties, but I don't perceive the quality stamp that comes with FHR.

I don't think there are any such rules, as there are very small LHW properties. I don't have time to search for the lowest room count, but off hand The Cotton House in Mustique has fifteen rooms and five suites, the Hullett House in Hong Kong has just ten suites, and Chedi Club in Bali has 20 suites and villas. There are plenty of others with < 50 rooms.

Most of the small properties are listed as Leading Small Hotels of the World, however I think this is just for marketing purposes. The properties designated as 'small' seem to fully participate in the Leaders Club program and are listed on the lhw website along with the other properties.

There are many exceptional properties of course, but there are also quite a few that are by no means luxury hotels. Based on the lower end of the LHW spectrum, it is clear that LHW is less selective than consortia like Virtuoso and FHR.

Thanks for your comments, it seems like in some cases, the destination itself is attractive to LHW and they bring on a member hotel.
I would assume Mustique island together with all its villas makes it a destination and LHW "standard" resort, not the hotel itself as it is very small.
Also Casa de Campo in DR, the hotel itself is nothing special but the resort with all its golf, villas and other activities, makes it a attractive destination.
