I know a few people who refused to sell their shares last time in part to protect the future of the airline they've flown for years or decades... I don't think goodwill will save them round two, unfortunately...

I would have thought that anyone still holding shares fromwhen that offer was made would be really kicking themselves for not having sold at approximately 5 times their current value

Not just QF shares. Same goes for most other floats that have gone down down down. If only we were certain about what is going to happen next week.

Some interesting commentary in the FT's Lex column here (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/3/f57cc95e-b45a-11e1-bb2e-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1xYQTMgt8). [paywall]

... its A$6bn enterprise value has dropped to levels last seen after Lehman Brothers collapsed... the airline is nowhere near death’s door in financial terms. This would indeed be a good time for an activist to start building a stake.

QF needs a new CEO IMO.

The headline was a good way to lift the share price! It had an immediate impact.

The headline was a good way to lift the share price! It had an immediate impact. That and the spin that the owner of AVV airport is going to buy QF. Now that is a great way to increase traffic at an airport -- buy an airline to use it. Maybe SYD airport will get into a bidding war to keep QF SYD-centric :)

Quite a few rumours doing the rounds the past few weeks about QF making a few moves to protect themselves from this.

On the Emirates side of the story this piece eludes to some of the stuff covered in the article posted by the OP, plus some other interesting stuff (like how cocky/over confident QF were once towards Emirates, yet now with all their problems they are approaching them cap in hand - http://gulfnews.com/business/aviation/emirates-not-buying-stake-in-qantas-tim-clark-1.1034475
