The Telegraph: AA ceases to commission travel guide books (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/9324539/AA-ceases-to-commission-travel-guide-books.html)

I'm not sure if anyone here uses AA guides - I know I've inherited a map or two over the time I've been here. Do many in the UK use them? I know there are plenty of destination guides out there, so I'm not sure this will impact anyone very much!

A spokeswoman for the company confirmed today it was not seeking to update its guides, but was unable to say whether the situation was permanent.

“It is under review at the moment,” said Katie Stephens of AA Publishing.

Guide book sales are down a lot in recent years, I have read. I would imagine this is mainly true of short-haul destinations, where for a weekend break you can print off a few things from the internet and that will keep you going.

This probably means the BBC will end up looking like mugs for overpaying for Lonely Planet with your licence fee cash!

I still buy guide books, and download stuff from the web as well as having apps on my phone for the places I'm going to visit.

I have to say the AA ones were never high on my list. DK or Lonely Planet, the occasional Frommers one, but I think I only ever bought one AA one and found it really quite dry and boring to read.

I'm a Lonely Planet addict (if nothing else, the collection reminds me where I've been :o) but I can't recally buying any AA ones.
