Hyatt Gold Passport - Hyatt Regency Orange County (Anaheim) CA REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Hi,

We're going to Disneyland and got the Hyatt Regency Orange County for $27 /nt via priceline. Haven't been able to find any reviews for this property?

We canceled our stay at the Hilton, where I am gold, because the Hyatt was so much cheaper.

Thanks.

If you mean the Hyatt in Contra Costa, I don't care for this property. It is the only kind of atrium-style hotel I have seen where the rooms face inward instead of to the outside, so that not only is your view of the lobby but all the lobby noise reverberates upward, so it is a very noisy hotel.

If you mean the Irvine hotel, the renovated rooms are beautiful, with original art and comfortable furnishings.

To clarify and expand upon Snorkdoc's post:

1. About half of this hotel's rooms do indeed face an interior atrium, but they are pretty well soundproofed, so unless there is a party of some sort in the atrium, you won't be disturbed.

2. Half of the hotel is brand new; it was formerly an office tower that was gutted and turned into additional rooms. Those rooms are all new, though rather sterile.

3. Contra Costa is a county in Northern CA. I think he/she meant to say Garden Grove, which is the city where this hotel is located.

For $27 (plus about $10/night parking), you have an excellent deal in a very nice hotel. Enjoy.

We've stayed there several times. Very nice rooms, especially the family suites. We didn't notice any noise. Shuttle to Disneyland runs every 30 minutes. You'll be happy, especially with the rate you got.

Make sure you request the North Tower (the renovated one). For $35 you can upgrade to a king suite or for $25 to a kids suite (king room with an adjoining bunkbed room). They gave me the 1500 bonus GP on two Priceline stays.

We faced the atrium when we upgraded to the suite and didn't hear any noise even the hotel was full. If you'll be needing a room with two queens, there is only one on each floor of the North Tower. These all have a nice exterior view of the pool.

BTW, my son visited the South Tower (where the gym is) and said it is a pit. Too funny, I signed up for GP after I got the first $27 PL stay and now have an FFN aftr the second. However, the only place I'll be going before April that has a Hyatt is this one so my FFN is only worth $27.

Also, if you are bringing kids, I hope the TV doesn't freak out like it did last time we were there. I was surfing during commercials and came across low rent porn. I rushed over to the kids room but luckily they were already sleeping.

I stayed there two nights over thanksgiving day weekend, using one paid night and one FFN night. We flew a red-eye to LAX late Thursday night.

When we arrived at 7AM they found one room for us. It was a suite in the older tower. Nothing to write home about, but the fact that they accomodated us when the hotel was full at that hour was great.

Their shuttle is not as good as the city-run shuttles that serve the Hilton or the Marriott. (The Hilton has also switched to the city-run shuttle, shared with the Marriott and another hotel on the way to the Marriott.) They Hyatt shuttle was a big intercity-style bus and takes forever to load and unload, and stops in the areas where the taxis load/unload at d-land. While the Hyatt is the first stop on the shuttle, and you can usually get on it there, getting on it for the trip back to the hotel can be challenging.

While I would stay there again, the Marriott and Hilton are a bit better for the use of the shuttle. Obviously, I felt that I had great service at this property (especially having room service bring me a coffee from the starbucks downstairs while Sarah was napping Friday afternoon.)

I just returned from my trip to Disneyland and our stay at the Hyatt Orange County (Garden Grove).

As I said in my first post, we stayed on a $27 / nt priceline bid for 3 nights. A few friends from San Francisco were also staying there for $99 / nt booked off the hyatt web site.

We were assigned room 803 in the south tower. I had requested a room in the north tower, but the front desk clerk said that there were no non-smoking rooms available. Our assigned room faced the interior atrium and the furniture was a bit run down. We didn't spend much time in the room since we were out sightseeing during the day, so the quality wasn't a big concern.

In comparison to the renovated North Tower, our room was not nearly as nice. We really liked the large windows in our friends suite.

I just read on this forum, that I could have been comped Diamond status due to my Hilton Gold. I think that would have made a difference when I had requested a room in the north tower. I also usually enjoy having breakfast in the hotel while vacationing, so it would have saved us a bit of money if we didn't have to go out each morning.

We found it difficult to find parking at some of the local restaurants for dinner and the wait times were about an hour. The hotel restaurant was almost always empty.

Our total came to about $130, which includes the room rate and parking for 3 days.

Being a diamond gets you no where at this hotel. I had two stays through priceline in the past two weeks. My first stay I called the hotel directly. I asked them to add my Diamond number to the reservation and made a request for a kids suite in the North tower. I was told they were unable to add anything to "internet" reservations. Upon check in, I got the kids suite but had to pay $25 for the upgrade. I was also told that I was not entitled to an amenity or the breakfast certificates because they couldn't add my Diamond number to the account. When we got to our room, I called the Diamond line and was told that the hotel was wrong and all Diamond members were entitled to their benefits regardless of the rate. I was also told that they've had a lot of trouble with this property and the GM there. They appologised and said they would make a call. Later in the evening, we received a voicemail saying that they would allow us to get our amenity but not the breakfast certs.

A week later we had a stay at this hotel again. This time I called the diamond line and they added my number right away. I also called 1800CHECKIN and requested a kids suite in the North Tower. They got me the room at no additional charge and were very nice about it. Upon check in, I encountered the same thing about no Diamond priviledges. This time the front desk clerk said they were told specifically by the GM that they were not allowed to give out amenity cards and breakfast certs. on "internet" rates. So once again I called Gold Passport and a different CS agent tell me the same thing. They had numerous complaints about this property and there was not much he could do, but if I wanted to, I could call the supervisor back the next day.

I didn't bother because it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I guess it was irritating based on principal. I've never encountered any problems at other properties when I've decided to use priceine. Honestly, the only purpose of the trip was to take my 4 year old to Disneyland. We were rained out 3 days in a row and had to come back a 2 weeks later. If it wasn't for that reason, I probably wouldn't have gone back to this property ever.

I also had problems with inflexibility at this property. You didn't miss much by not getting the breakfast certificates. They entitle you to a buffet breakfast only and it's not much of a buffet. I wanted to apply the value of the vertificate -or even just $10- towards something off the regular menu. Absolutely positively not. Wrote to the GM there about the issue and never even received a reply. SO, we now stay at the Marriott. Their breakfast plan includes a buffet also, but it's quite a buffet and they offered to give me anything on the regular menu without any charge.

I have had terrible experiences as a diamond (only in the past few weeks) and will no longer go to this hotel. I have NEVER heard of a hotel not applying the value of the coupon towards a menu item. No amenities, no points for incidentals, not even a simple thank you. I have let my feelings known to the Hyatt G.P. so if it is not corrected now it will never be as long as Peter Sears continues to work as the manager there.

When I called Gold Passport the first time they told me they were having problems with the GM. I think they told me his name was Dave Sears? Well, whatever his name is, they said that Gold Passport was "negotiating" with him on the issue.

What is there to negotiate? I was always under the impression that our Diamond benefits were supposed to be honored at all Hyatts. I can understand the difference in services, amenity choices,RCs, etc but to deny all the benefits is ridiculous. Also, if they've had so many complaints about the GM and it's obvious he has no interest in doing anything about it..why is he still there?

They also don't give points for incidentals? Well I guess that explains why I haven't gotten credit for my stays yet.

Had a really bad stay there on Monday.

First of all there was a huge convention group checking in ( Home Depot ) with a line at Check In about 150 ft. long and I am not kidding.Bypassed the line to ask at the Concierge desk, if there is any line for GPP or GPP Diamond members.Obviously a stupid question answered with a short NO !!
At least the question was answered very efficiently, the movement of the line did actually not represent anything being handled efficiently...

Surprisinly after 10 minutes the concierge waved me over which resulted in some strange views from the Home Depot line. Some kind of check in supervisor checked me in and gave me Room 1117, unfortunately in the old tower. To my excuse, I was obviously not smart enough to study this thread before.....
Chose the cheese plate and two sodas as the Diamond amenity. They were delivered shortly before 10 p.m after checking in at about 8 p.m
Requested delivery time noted on that sheet was 9 p.m. , but the delay was more than ok and the plate with some imported cheeses, grapes and crackers was nice and more than enough for two people at this late hour.

But the room was disgusting, after a really bad stay two days ago at the SFO Airport Hyatt this was my second bad Hyatt room in a row.I am really not kidding, but any halfway decent AAA 2 Diamond Hotel has a nicer and bigger bathroom minus the Hyatt portico products, which are certainly superior.
Beside that the room was simply old and small, the carpet had so much stains, way too much to count them and I am not exaggerating by guessing that 50 % of the carpet was simply full of stains...

At Check In they promised to deliver the AAA Full Breakfast certificates, unfortunately only one certificate for the cont. Breakfast made it up to my room, which resulted in another wait of 10 minutes to get the coupons the next morning, because from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m only one manager was on duty to help customers checking out....

Breakfast was solid, the scrambled eggs and potatoes were cold, but the fresh fruit made up for that.

After another wait of 15 minutes trying to check out , the same manager who gave me the breakfast coupons some hours ago asked, if everyting was allright which resulted in a major complain from my side, actually the first complain at any hotel in a very long time...

He handed me a complimentary upgrade certificate and promised to forward my complain to the GM with a good chance of getting a free night certificate on top of that....

So my advise would be to go for the new tower or simply stay away. The old tower is a disgrace for the Hyatt chain( would actually be a disgrace for any quality hotel chain ) and should renovated immediately.

Ha Ha Ha

You MAY be given the business floor of the "south tower." (No more free bunk-bed rooms) Sometimes they give amenities and coupons but recently they have not. Parking is always over $10 for everyone when all the neighboring hotels have free parking. Save your reciept since your GP number may just mysteriously disappear from the reservation at check out or even after you leave.

Good Luck

I stayed there last week, for the first time in their "new" wing. It is an acceptable Hyatt, nothing special. No RC, but they have almost always upgraded me to a suite.

I think Irvine is a better property, but it depends on why you are there to begin with. We use it to take the kids to Disneyland, and they have a free shuttle every 30 minutes. This saves about 40 minutes roundtrip, as if you park at Disneyland, you have to take a tram to and from the park anyway (and pay $8 for that pleasure.)

I'm planning on going back to Disneyland in early October will probably be staying here again for one night if we can get it on priceline. This time I'm going as a Diamond and it will be interesting to see if there are any differences.

The south wing's "old" rooms were not horrible, but if I were paying the regular rate and got one of those rooms, I would be disappointed. If I remember correctly, the new rooms were nicer, but rather plain with nothing special.

Add me to the list of having a disappointing stay. I have stayed there quite a few times and have "always" previously had a positive stay. I even recommended this hotel to my relatives!

* Asked reservations to note a rollaway bed was needed. Did not receive. Called front desk to request again, mentioned no problem. Did not receive. After waiting three hours, I called back and received.

* Called front desk for MC game piece. Told me, never heard of it, but will check and call back. Never got call back.

* Didn't get a newspaper on Sat even though the room two doors down got one.

* Called and asked for 4 sets of towels in room and left note on mirror requesting the same. Each day, still only received 3 sets and only two face towels. Guess they figured we'd all share.

* Late on Sun night, could not sleep as my room was vibrating due to some source of loud music. Called front desk to inquire. Mentioned they would send security to check out. Heard nothing.

As I pressed my ear to the windows, I figured out it was the restaurant at the back of the hotel. They had a live band playing. I could hear the band over the TV and air conditioner! It honestly sounded like someone pulled their car stereo under my window.

Called again. I asked them to come up and listen how loud it was. The front desk person told me that they do not have the time to listen to each and every room nor did they have any other complaints and that they mentioned they could do nothing. I asked if there was a noise ordinance or something. She said she might say something after midnight. Asked for a manager, said none on duty. I finally went to bed after 1130pm on Sun nite as this was when the band stopped playing. (Now if the band playing was drowning out the wedding reception in the hotel that night, wouldn't they have to say/do something?)

* At gift shop, minimum room charge is $5. No mention is made of this anywhere, even copy of charge slip is shown on register.

* At check-in, asked for GP1500 bonus, said no problem, I'll make a note of it. At check-out, I inquired about the bonus again, and this time he mentioned, here let me add it.

* When asked at check out if everything during my stay went well? I mentioned, so-so and he said nothing as if he ignored my comment.

This was a very disappointing stay and I didn't even mention everything. I'm glad my next stay in the area is at the hotel up the street.

Had a good stay there a month or so ago, upgraded to a suite in the new tower, nice Diamond Amenity ( Cheese plate + lots of fresh fruit )
Breakfast coupons provided without a problem.

I parked across the street from the Hyatt at the Sports Authority lot, invested the $ 10 Hyatt parking charge into some stuff there, placed the bag on the seat and went over the street to the Hyatt ( 100 yards walk )

No problem at all...

I stay there a lot on PL and regular rates. I have only been put in the dreaded South tower once. When on a non-PL rate, I usually get the one bedroom exec suite (a smallish bedroom and nice size "living room" with a fridge, microwave, 2 TVs. When on PL I usually get a standard room in the North Tower. I sometimes have to ask, but I always get the Diamond Amenity (pretty good choices) and breakfast coupons (no lounge here) that gives you free Cont'l brfst (or $3 charge to upgrade to hot buffet) at the restaurant.

I just checked out on Sunday and there is nothing going on in the South Tower. Seems like any improvements there have, unfortunately, been delayed. They were replacing the air filters on the 3rd floor which tells me that it will be some time before any renovations will begin (if they were starting soon, I would doubt they would bother putting in new filters!).

The disparity between the two towers has been well documented here, but I must add that the condition of the South Tower is a crying shame :( . The lobby and North Tower say 4 star hotel, but that South Tower is worse than a Days Inn. I am sure spending money in a tough lodging market is hard to justify ($25 PL rates lately!), but leaving things the way they are (with such a huge difference in guest experiences based on which tower they are put in) should not be an option. I really hope that renovations do indeed start soon!!!

I stay at this hotel approximately once every three weeks as a Diamond on a PL rate. There is a disparity between how you are treated at check in vs. check out.

First, you absolutely must use 800-CHECKIN. Ask for the North Tower, give them your GP #, and ask for the bonus code of the day, usually GP1500.

When you arrive at night, you will be checked in by one of the "Robert Palmer girls," a team of stern, out-of-the-box young ladies who usually remove your GP # from the reservation and will occasionally deny you Diamond benefits. Be prepared to call Hyatt's 800 # from your cell phone to force them to give you what you deserve. Occasionally they will promise you a welcome amenity, but it will mysteriously never arrive.

Don't fret, the fix comes in the morning. There is usually only one person manning the desk, "Mark." A complete professional. He will re-add your GP #, re-add the bonus code, give you the welcome amenity, and in general make you feel special. If not for Mark, this hotel would be in clear violation of GP standards.

Finally, a kudo to Julia. The Robert Palmer girls used to deny me Diamond benefits 100% of the time until Julia intervened. Now, if you stand up for yourself, you'll receive them about 80% of the time.

I had the pleasure of staying at this facility last Friday. Contrary to what people said in this thread, my overall experience was close to perfect. ^

- 1800-CHECK-IN gave me a mini suite (I'm a Diamond) in the North Tower. I did ask the nice operator to get me a room in the North Tower before she put me on hold to contact the hotel. No need to memorize which room is in which tower, just tell them what you want and confirm it. :-:
- Location is pretty good; close to the park (but I wasn't there to have fun)
- Parking is outdoor but adjacent/walking distance to the hotel. It's $12/day, take your ticket and get it validated for in & out privilege. (it won't earn you GP points btw)
- Lobby was immaculate, clean and quiet at around 8PM on a Friday evening
- Checkin was speedy (had to wait for maybe 5 minutes)
- Yes, I had to remind the young front desk person about my Diamond Amenity (which she apologized) and it was delivered within an hour. I got a full bottle (instead of the thin bottle) of the Salmon Creek Merlot.
- Breakfast coupon was given (but did not use since I had to leave early in the morning)
- Room in the North Tower was very clean, seems very new. Bed is your typical Hyatt bed.
- In-room dining was courteous and timely.
- Surprise surprise, upon checkout, I wasn't charged with parking; I drove up to the exit gate (this was at 5:30am though) and it opened automatically.

So I really don't know what's all the bad stuff about. Granted, most of the experience mentioned on this thread was from 2003 so things may have gotten better since then. I'm a relatively low maintenance traveler and if you are as well, you would be pleased.

Feel free to PM me for questions.
Thx!

*Please Be Advised*

The South Tower will be under renovation August 29 - November 19, 2004.

As glad as I am the renovation will be taking place, I doubt it will stay a Category 1 hotel after that.

I have stayed there several times before becoming Diamond and after. Sometimes I ask at the time of using 1-800 check in to deliver the Diamond amenity in advance because I might be arriving very late.

They have always put me in to the new tower and I once got the small "suite".

The Sydney Cove Suite at the park Hyatt in San Francisco, where I am writing this, is much nicer, however.

Just found this post from biddingfortravel. A note from the sales manager at this property. This is great news. I'm afraid that Hyatt will now upgrade this hotel from being a Category 1 hotel.

------------------------------
My name is Brian Gehrisch, and I am a sales manager at the Hyatt Regency Orange County. I contacted Sheryl the Administrator to share some information about our South Tower renovation, and she suggested that I post it for everyone to read.

It is a great pleasure to announce that the renovation of our South Tower is nearing an end, and that as of Friday, October 29, 2004 non-renovated rooms are no longer available for any guest. All guests staying in our South Tower will once again experience the superior standards of quality that the Hyatt name represents.

The transformation of the South Tower is truly remarkable. Here is a summary of the drastic changes involved:
- Complete renovation of all guestrooms and hallways
- All wallpaper has been replaced
- All carpet has been replaced
- All furniture has been replaced
- All window treatments have been replaced
- New upgraded lighting has been installed
- All popcorn ceilings have been scraped and painted
- New granite countertops have been installed in the bathrooms
- New tile floors have been installed in the bathrooms
- All Double beds have been converted to Queens
- 67 King rooms have been converted to Queen/Queen to accommodate guest demand
- All beds have been replaced with Hyatt™s new Grand Bed

We are particularly excited about the introduction of the Grand Bed. It features an exceptional non-flip pillow-top mattress. A footprint-style bed base replaces the conventional bed frame, a form-fitted box spring cover replaces the traditional dust ruffle, and the bedspread is eliminated entirely in exchange for a 21-ounce down blanket. The Grand Bed is the new standard for comfort in all Hyatt Hotels in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean; and we are thrilled to offer it to our guests.

I want to thank all of you who have shared your experiences with the Hyatt Regency Orange County. We value your opinions, and your suggestions help us to constantly improve. I strongly encourage anyone who was not satisfied with the South Tower in the past to come back and see what a difference we have made. I am confident that you will be very happy with the new rooms. I also encourage all of you to continue giving your feedback to our hotel management immediately should a situation arise during your stay. The sooner an issue is brought to our attention, the sooner we can make it right.

On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for your continued support.

Warm Regards,

Brian Gehrisch

Hi -

Have learned some good info using search. I am in a bit of a different situation than most and any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated.

Planning the April 2006 (yes, 1 year from now) family vacation to California (from Maryland). Going to spend about 6-7 nights in San Diego, then drive up to Disney for about 3 nights, mainly really to spend about 2 days at Disney. It will be me, Mrs. EC Traveler, and Little Man EC Traveler - 2 1/2 years old then.

Suffice to say there are a zillion choices here, and the Hyatt Anaheim has caught my eye. Reason? B/C with child we nearly always want either 2 rooms (connecting) or a suite where the little guy can sleep in his own area while we stay up and watch TV, etc. The Anaheim Hyatt has these various suites.

Anyone have information on the different suites? They have the Kids Suite - which is cheapest online - which should suffice since he will only really need any type of bed at that age. The other suites are more $ but curious why. All I need is a King Bed, a closing room divider, and any size other room where he can sleep...in other words, he can sleep even in the suite area, if the room closes off and is remotely sound-proof. So - anyone have any info on which type of suite to get?

Next - it really appears the best route is PL but I am seeing recently that getting a suite, or even connecting rooms (via 2 PL bids) is a bit rough and we are not willing to risk it. ANy thoughts on that?

Next - why is this hotel so much more during the week ($178 AAA rate vs $128) then the weekend? Is it b/c of conventions? Any way around this? We'd rather be there like a Weds, Thurs, Fri nites to avoid the weekend crowds at Disney, but Weds/Thurs are much higher than Fri/Sat.

Almost Lasty - anyone have experience with the stay certs? $99/night - bad deal, though, cuz no GP points, right? Plus, not a suite...

Lastly - I see online they have a Disney package deal but can't seem to find out how much it costs - every date I pick says sold out for 2005. Any info on this?

I have read the postings about the other hotels, but think Anaheim is where we want to be - priority 1 is close to Disney (along with a suite).

Then I guess the question is this - anyone have reward experience with this? I assume the base 5000 gets you a normal room, so does it take the 8000 to get a Kids suite? Or is that for one of the "bigger suites" and can the kids be had for less? Or maybe, can I pay the 5000 GP points and then pay $ for hte upgrade.

I know this is a ton of questions - any help is greatly appreciated. Why a year in advance? To get the reward flights of course :-) 331 days is quickly approach for the end of April 2006...

Thanks again and thanks a bunch!!!

Our family has stayed in King rooms (includes a sofa, desk, and chair), a 2 Queen room (desk... maybe a chair), several Kids Suites (depends on the size), and a 1 Bedroom Suite (desk, chair, sofa, coffee table). Kids Suites are the best, followed by 1 bedroom, then King. 2 Queens are only preferable if your child co-sleeps and one of you actually wants to get some rest.

Every suite I've stayed in (except one) has had connecting french doors. Not bad, but not great soundproofing either. Defintely better than an open floor plan.

Next - it really appears the best route is PL but I am seeing recently that getting a suite, or even connecting rooms (via 2 PL bids) is a bit rough and we are not willing to risk it. ANy thoughts on that?

Your taking a significant risk with Priceline in Anaheim. They have some great deals, but there is also the chance of landing a dive like the Radisson. Also, with PL you're only guaranteed a regular room. IF they have Kid's Suites available at check-in, the upgrade cost is $40/night.

This hotel does a lot of trade in conventions, both at the hotel and at the Anahiem Convention Center.

Almost Lasty - anyone have experience with the stay certs? $99/night - bad deal, though, cuz no GP points, right? Plus, not a suite....

No experience here. You might call the hotel and find out what their Entertainment Rate is, if you're not concerned about points or stay credit. (iffy on the ENT rate).

Lastly - I see online they have a Disney package deal but can't seem to find out how much it costs - every date I pick says sold out for 2005. Any info on this?.

This year is Disney's 50th Birthday. You may be picking dates that are unusually impacted. Try calling the hotel direct.

This is our second choice for DL. If you can afford it, staying onsite at the Grand California Hotel really can't be beat, especially with a 2 year old. April is Value Season here, and I would expect the prices next year to be better than this year. I, personally, would even give up the suite if it meant staying on-site. A trip to the Hyatt mid-day will take at least 45 from the time you start walking to the gate. A trip to your room at the GCH takes about 5-15 mins TOPS. Add the same amount of time if you want to go back the same day.

I DO, however, prefer the Hyatt to the Paradise Pier Hotel. Rooms are comparable and the service is MUCH better at the Hyatt. Haven't stayed at the DL Hotel.

When staying at the Hyatt with a toddler, expect to drive in, or spend a lot of time stuggling with a stroller while you try to find a spot on the Hotel shuttle.

As a Plat, you can expect a regular room on an award stay. 8000 points will guarantee you a 1 bedroom suite. At check-in, you might ask very nicely to be switched to a Kids Suite (should be an even money trade), but I've been told that a 1 bedroom suite is what you should expect.

I know this is a ton of questions - any help is greatly appreciated. Why a year in advance? To get the reward flights of course :-) 331 days is quickly approach for the end of April 2006...

Thanks again and thanks a bunch!!!

I'd also recommend visiting www.laughingplace.com for great discussion boards on Disneyland Trip Planning.

You might also want to check with the hotel if they would let you upgrade to a kids suite with a platinum certificate. I know it is upgrade to Regency club but they might say it is an even wash... Also you can upgrade to suite with 6K points sometimes but may require certain rates.

Otherwise, I would be inclined for the 8K reward redemption rather than paying the rates if rate is more than 125+

btw, Hyatt do get a lot of conventions. I am going to one in Anaheim and Hyatt was one of the convention hotels.

I redeemed 10,000 points for a two-night stay (WED+THU) before Easter 2005. As a Platinum, I was given a nonsmoking "Conference King" room, which was basically a double-sized room. I was pre-booked into the room, since they had all my paperwork waiting for me, so it was not based on an upgrade request made in person.

Half the room had a 10-foot conference table with ergonomic seating for 8, along with a fridge and wetbar/sink. The TV was extra large (27"?) and mounted on a credenza to flip between the King bed and the two-couch seating area. The couches were regular couches, not sleepers.

The room was one of the few with balconies that open up in to the lobby atrium. There was quite a bit of balcony space, but no chairs. It wouldn't exactly be a thrill to sit out there anyway since its an enclosed atrium.

It was particularly cumbersome to use the wired high-speed service, as there was no desk or designated work area. They had the wiring set up for the end table between the sofas. I was able to improvise and maneuver enough to get the cords to the coffee table, which certainly made for awkward net surfing.

Did not spend much time at the hotel, but I have stayed before (on PL) and its much much nicer since the renovation was complete. There is a lengthy thread on this hotel on the BFT site. Parking is $12 and the complimentary shuttles to Disneyland work very well.

During the same time, my brother successfully bid for 2 rooms @$34. They were booked for a 4-night stay and had no problem getting adjoining rooms. Their rooms were nice, newly remodeled. They had no fridge, though. The hotel has converted many rooms to two-bed combos, to accomodate more sleepers per room. I was unable to get the hotel to accept a $34 bid for only two nights. If you look at the winning posts on BFT, you will see that nearly all the winning $34 bids are for 3-4-5 day stays.

Overall, I think this property is a good redemption value, especially since it was remodeled.

Posting from a 2 bedroom suite at the Orange County Regency, I have to give them a lot of credit for transforming to a very decent property over the course of 30 months during which I had 5 stays at the property...

Diamond amenity was a huge plate of roasted veggies with parma ham and tomatoes and mozzarella served with warm garlic bread and half a bottle of Estancia as usual....Easily the best Diamond amenity I had this year.

Hotel added some staff for valet and bell service as well as two doormen opening the doors for arriving guests. For an US property a great touch.

Everything was set up, when I arrived including packaged breakfast certs within key package.

Wired lan @ 9.95 per 24 hours is US Hyatt average....

Still plenty of free parking across the street, if you do not valet your car the way from the parking lot would be actually longer, so no reason for the expensive parking lot.

I stayed here a few times last year and for the price ($59-79) per night it was quite worth it, however this fall I am not finding anything for this property less than $100+ bucks and to me it is not worth that price. Maybe it is if you are taking your kids to Disney but otherwise to me, its overpriced. I've gotten suites consistantly, but found it extremely noisy. I'm just looking for inexpensive properties to get FFN MC credits.. I will say on their behalf though, that they have taken care of any issue I've ever had timely and to my satisfaction and that they do deliver on what they promise.

But where do you find a Hyatt in the greater LAX area on a weekday below $ 100 .

Not even on weekends the classic cheaper properties ( Valencia, Thousand Oaks ) drop below $ 100 consistently anymore...and the Regency DT is gone.

Just returned from breakfast, which was also vastly improved.

Miso soup was a nice touch as well as the smoothie.

I was there very recently on a not-cheap weeekend night (about $140). 1-800-check-in had apparently put me in a suite in the south tower, but when I asked on arrival for the north one, they said they had no real suites available in the north one, but gave me something they said was the size of a suite but one room. It had a HUGE conference table (which actually came in handy, as I was working and had about six different piles of papers), asitting area separated by drawers/large flat-screen TV from bed. I rather liked it, though I think the room would have felt even more strange had I not had so much work to spread on the table. Staff (except for concierge desk) was very sweet.

We've stayed here several times in the past couple years, including 3 trips to Disney with the little ones. Our experience is similar to bbbb's. Pretty much everyone that we dealt with was great on all our trips.

Our little ones associate that Hyatt, and those white buses as being part of Disney.

We showed up last night and they didn't have our booking, not at all. I had a printed confirmation and without it I think it would have been a challenge -- they took the rate, stay length, everything from it. As we showed up late, maybe room choice was more limited. We ended up in a suite on the second floor (room 261) that clearly was intended more as a conference room with a bedroom appended than anything else.

First time I've stayed in a hotel suite where the sitting room had a largish sign stating "maximum occupancy 52!" The living room TV had a luxury hifi system -- from the 70s. I particularly liked the dual cassette tape players, too bad I left my 8 track collection behind!

The wifi was too weak to work in much of the room but eventually through a major intercession with their provider, they got decent wired service up. We had a whole bunch of people streaming in and out and eventually got extra towels, diamond amenity, cruddy florescents replaced with 100w bulbs, etc. Still as we appear to have the only occupied room on this level made up primarily of meeting rooms, I'm going to call to remind them to clean the room!

Through it all, everyone stayed in good humor and was willing to help. Nonetheless, it's a bit of a weird experience so far, I must say. Hey, there are two of us staying here, don't suppose there are 50 other FTers nearby who want to check out my room (wouldn't want to exceed the posted capacity)? :):):):)

Let me summarize my experience after 3 nights stay. This is a family hotel in a mass market resort area. Service is friendly and good-natured in a bumbling, incompetent sort of way. The "fine dining" facility appears to be an Italian restaurant in the back of the hotel, but on weekend nights it is more of a nightclub than restaurant, complete with mounted Anaheim police watching over it. If you ask to speak to the GM, I doubt you would ever reach him or her. But if you come to this hotel with expectations appropriate to its level, price, and location, you will likely get what you expect.

Was upgraded to a King Suite in the North Tower (as they do for us every year), and received breakfast coupons for all 4 of us (2 adults, 5 and 7 year old kids) - continental buffet at resturant - includes tip (upgradeable to hot buffet for $5 for adults ... though the waiter remembered us from prior years, and said "don't worry about it" for upgrade charge)

Anyone know where Hyatt tends to put large convention groups? I'll be there in May for National Academic Decathlon (likely 200+ rooms) and I'm curious if we'll wind up in "nice" rooms or get the bottom of the barrel.

Also, will I get gold points? We'll be paying the convention rate of $139/night...

I stayed here a lot not because it is the best Hyatt but because it was typically the best price. One year I stayed here for like over 100 nights. My final stay happened when I elected to have the deluxe continental breakfast one morning. Typically I am underwhelmed by the breakfast anyway but the waiter kindly offered us juice and such. At the end of the meal I found out that juice is not included in the price of the continental and we were charged like $4-5 per glass. I was livid! I guess the definition of continental is just coffee and rolls/pastries. The waiter felt bad because he had been told by management not to say anything about the change in policy if someone elected to have juice using their diamond vouchers. He encouraged us to a complain to management but I proudly never returned to the property again but that was at least two years ago.

Same thing happened to us last February - charged ~$4 per glass of OJ with our buffet breakfast. No mention it was not included until we received a bill for it. Our memory was that the juice was included in previous years, and we did let management know we weren't happy about the change.

This year, when we were asked if we wanted juice at breakfast, we explicitly asked if it was included in the buffet or if it was extra. This year, it's back to being included in the buffet.

I stayed here for one night. As a Diamond, I was given a suite in the North Tower that looked into the atrium. The room was ok--not bad, but not great. The thing that I thought was a bit tacky was the overhead fluourescent lighting in the living area.

Breakfast was fine. The free Diamond breakfast was for cold items, but for $5 you can upgrade to include the hot items. I didn't order orange juice, but the waiter made a point to tell me that it was included in the voucher (maybe people have complained in the past?).

Self-parking was $15.

Overall, the stay was pretty run-of-the-mill. Nothing extraordinary and nothing terrible.

Just completed a stay at this property while attending a conference held on site. As a new Hyatt guest I didn't know what to expect. Booked a 1 BR suite and was allocated one in the North Tower (I guess all suites are in the north tower??) with a view into the Atrium. Room was very well sound-proofed as no noise from the Atrium bled into the room.

I was quite surprised that the staff were very friendly and the service levels were quite high.

Even better, the points posted 24hrs after check-out including the G3 bonus. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

I just stayed at this Hyatt property for one night on Saturday (9/20). I got a pretty decent AAA rate for a King bed room ($93). There is a great offer for AAA members right now for a free breakfast (full buffet, offer code BREAKF), which is good since I currently have no status with Hyatt GP (faxed status match request last week).

The check-in was easy, no line and friendly staff. I had to show my Auto Club card, which I was not expecting being an HHonors Diamond (they never ask since your membership # is on the reservation). Fortunately I always carry it with me. The room was very nice, I had a room on the eighth floor (#817) all the way at the end (at least the hallways aren't that long). No atrium view for me, mine had a nice view over the pool with Harbor Blvd. in the background (good view of the Target across the street). It was a large room and had a sleeper sofa which I didn't need but it was nice to know it was available. I got a call shortly after check-in to see how I liked the room.

Breakfast was very good, it was Sunday so we got the Sunday brunch buffet with our free breakfast voucher. Good omelettes (freshly made to order), good pastry selection and nice selection of fresh fruit as well.

There were postcards on the front desk with a "thank you for visiting" message and an offer for a return visit:

Stay with us this September or October, 2008 and receive your choice of one of the following:

*Complimentary Self-Parking (usually $15)
*$15.00 Food & Beverage Credit
*Free Suite Upgrade (based on availability)

Offer code: OCYBK

This code also works with AAA rates (although not in conjunction with the free breakfast code). I already booked a couple nights for October. Since I will hopefully be HGP Diamond soon, the free parking will be a nice bonus. :)

I thought I would post an update on this property since my last stay. I just stayed there for two nights last weekend (10/3 and 10/5, @ Sheraton GG on Saturday :D)

Well, this was my fist visit as a Hyatt Diamond, and it was great! (my status match came in 6 days after I faxed).

The combination of the Diamond status works very well with the offer code mentioned above (Offer code: OCYBK), as explained below.

I reserved a king bedroom online with the AAA rate ($93-$108) and welcome back code. Upon check-in, the staff member told me I had been upgraded to a king suite because I was Hyatt Diamond. I knew the offer code gave a choice of three amenities and frankly had not decided whether I was going to use it for the upgrade or parking... but I simply said "Great!" and went with it.

Check-in was very fast and she gave me a voucher for the continental breakfast buffet as a Diamond member (the AAA BREAKF code gives a similar voucher but for the full buffet).

The suite in the North Tower was nice. Not extremely large but a good size living room with a sleeper sofa, chair and coffee table sitting area, desk, and corner TV cabinet which also contained a mini fridge (empty) and the ice bucket and glasses. There were two bottles of water with the "$5 hang tags" on them.

The bedroom was through large double doors (glass with sheer curtains) and had a king bed, and large armoire/TV cabinet. I would describe the size as "cozy". This suite was on the third floor so the view of the lobby was quite close! It seemed even closer from the lobby looking up! I think you would definitely want to keep the curtains drawn for privacy in the bedroom, as the glass windows are floor-to-ceiling, especially on the lower floors.

The continental buffet can be upgraded to the full buffet for $7/person on Sunday and $5/person Mon.-Sat. The "Sunday Brunch" includes a very nice omlette station and made to order waffles. Great buffet with better than average fruit and pastry selections (as I mentioned above).

When I checked-out, I was pleasantly surprised that the offer code was automatically applied to the $15/day parking fee! It did not show up on my folio at all. Therefore the room upgrade was indeed a Diamond perk, as well as the continental breakfast. I had the exact same experience on the Sunday night stay as well (with a suite on the 9th floor). Overall, I think it is an excellent deal on this hotel!

Unfortunately, the "welcome back" offer code is only good through October. On the other hand I was very lucky to make a new friend last weekend during Gay Days, so I have another stay reserved for Saturday night this weekend. :D

So I will at least get one more stay out of it. ^

Anyone stayed here in a while?

We were there last week in a 2 bedroom Queen Suite. Lots of space but room need to be updated. Having 2 bathrooms is a real plus. They are in the middle of a remodel in the North Tower where all of the suites are. 3 floors are closed. The noise was not bad at all. No club but you get a full breakfast in the restaurant (except for the gratuity). They are very nice at this hotel and seem to be Very accomadating to Diamond members. Overall, we really like this property.

. . . They are very nice at this hotel and seem to be Very accomadating to Diamond members. Overall, we really like this property.

I agree. I had a weekend night stay here a few weeks ago. As Diamond, I was upgraded to a business-oriented conference suite. The check-in agent said they upgrade Diamond members to this suite, or a full two-room suite whenever the rooms are available.

This suite actually worked out well. There was a conference table (that would also work well for dining) and a living room with three sofas in a U-shape, facing a large screen TV sitting atop a high credenza. The TV swiveled around to also face the King bed that was on the other side of the credenza. Only one standard bathroom in this suite, however.

We ordered full breakfasts off the menu and all charges were removed from the bill (including tip, in our case).

Free HSIA is wired, which was not in the most convenient location (adjacent to the sofas, as opposed to the conference table across the room), so I used my Verizon wireless card.

Shuttles to/from Disney worked out well. They run every half-hour in each direction and were very prompt, in our experience. Drivers were remarkably friendly and helpful.

I would not hesitate to stay here again if (more likely when) in the area.

Definitely a change in SOP. They used to have printed vouchers for AAA and for GP. The GP ones said "continental breakfast" but they were honored for full buffet when the GP enhancements were announced earlier this year.

No certificates when I was there recently. They told me when I checked in 'free buffet breakfast for two and just charge it to the room.' We ordered from the menu, expecting to pay for some, if not all. The entire charge was removed.

They are now going through $25 million renovation that should be completed sometime early next year. The rooms, public spaces, and restaurants will be all redone. This should really affect the room availability because it is really the slow time of the year when they usually have some of the floors closed.

The floors 9 and 10 on the north tower are currently ready. Floors 7 and 8 are currently being renovated.

I wasn't aware that the property had changed ownership this Summer. Have to ask next time who is the new owner.

What I really like about this property are the front desk employees that I have get to know quite well over the years. When I was checking in the other night we were laughing that it is THAT time of the year again....

Also it seems that nowadays you get WSJ instead of the dreadful McPaper aka USA Today.

Here are some pictures of the basic room/suite on the renovated floors. It is interesting to see how the Conference King is done after they get to the other tower. The only thing that I quite didn't like was the fact that they hadn't really done anything major with the bathroom. It is out of sync with the other rooms.

Just stayed at this property.

Check-in was impressive in the huge atrium. They recognized my diamond status right away and offered choice of welcome ammenities. I chose points. The agent gave me his card and offered that if I needed anything during my stay they were happy to help. Was informed of my free diamond room upgrade (suite) and that complimentary breakfast would be in the restaurant - no coupon needed.

My suite was fine. The view was of the atrium. The bed was terrible. Out of any hotel I've stayed in it was definitely the worst - even compared to Super8 Costa Mesa which was the next worst (only stayed there to get 10,000 UA miles via a Wyndham promo.) The bed was lumpy and had a huge crater in it that I fell into when I rolled over. I mentioned this at checkout and they didn't seem to care.

Breakfast was good (I had the corned beef hash) and the toast was very tastefully served in a basket with linens and a separate butter-mold dish. The orange juice was fresh-squeezed - I've gotten so used to United Airline's ""orange juice"" that I forgot how good real OJ tastes!

Wireless internet worked fine and did not show up on the bill. Was charged only the tip for breakfast on my bill.

1W points didn't show up with other items from the stay in my GP acct so I had to call CS to fix that later.

Saw signs about the $25 million rennovation in progress. did not see any other evidence of it and no noise - so they are doing a good job of keeping it from disturbing the guests. I really hope the remodel includes NEW BEDS! I was in a room that had not been redone yet.

Another renovation? It seems like they just did a renovation in the last 3 years when it was "Alicante". I seem to get assigned a standard King Room each time I stay....they're a bit oddly configured, quite company, and the TV is on a hinge unit so you can view from the bed. Atrium noise/music can be annoying sometimes, but a better property than Long Beach and Newport Beach....both long overdue for a "complete renovation".

I'm not sure if this is an issue with this property or a problem with my particular account, but my last three Hyatt stays haven't been posting and they have all been at this property. I had a stay from 9/9 post no problem (except for pts instead of miles explained below), but the next three stays from 9/25, 9/27, and 9/30 did not post.

I finally called HGP tonight and got them to post them manually. One other thing: these had been the first stays I had requested UA miles, instead of HGP points. The stay from 9/9 posted with points, even though I had requested miles. So I guess it could also be the conversion to miles at this property that was the issue. HGP customer service on the phone seemed to have straightened everything out but I won't know for sure until the dust settles everything posts as intended.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems getting stays from this property to post lately? From any property? I even mentioned it to the front desk on the last stay but it did not change anything.

I have stayed at this property about 8-10 times in the past year, and I have always had things post promptly and correctly. Even better, the front desk folks have discovered bonus points when I have not anticipated stays and bonus points. Your situation (opinion only) may be more a situation related to the miles than things posting in general.

Yes, thank you holtju2, this is another factor that all three stays had in common: all were booked through the 24HR sale $69 rate! Yet another possibility for the problem.

Stay here for one night on the $69 rate. At checkin, I asked them to put in the G3 code, no problem. Given a pseuo suite on the 6 floor facing the lobby as a Diamond. Room was nice, newly done. Self park is $15. Diamond full buffet breakfast was on par. Free internet was wired only. Didn't use the pool. Free shuttle every 30 minutes to the Disneyland. No self guest laundry. On checkout, they removed a bogus water charge without my prompting. All in all, pretty good value.
Ahh, stay credit didn't post like everyone else.

I will call after I get back from England to get proper point/stay credit, but I had a recent stay at this property at the $69 rate. I was also told that wired internet was the only free one. My room was almost like a suite (with a poor view) in the South Tower. It had two TVs, a microwave, and a refrigerator.

For some reason, the wiring for the living room TV was connected with the power line for one of the lights. The TV stopped working whenever I turned off the light switch. I think engineering went into my room after I checked out to fix that issue.

Diamond members get a complete breakfast for free (with tip paid by the hotel). They were still handing out old coupons that only state continental breakfast, but they will switch to the new coupons once they get rid of all the old ones. I had to call to get a WSJ delivered, but it arrived 3 minutes after I called.

The breakfast offered at this hotel is the best out of all the domestic Hyatts that I have been to so far. You have to have the front desk deduct the cost of the tip. I was told that there is an issue with their computer system that they hope to correct soon.

I would stay at this property again, provided that I can get a flight out of SNA (the drive to LAX was brutal from this property, although I made a stop in Beverly Hill before going to LAX) or take a late afternoon flight out of LAX. It would stink to have to rush to LAX from this hotel for a 10 am flight.

The parking charge brings the real rate up to $84 and always having to chase points makes this no bargain IMO.
Staying at the Sheraton Cerritos instead($79-no charge for parking)nicer room and not as many kids.

The reason for the PACKAGE on the folio is for their computer system automatically to adjust the folio for the Diamond bennies i.e. free internet and the breakfast.

They also went back to the Breakfast vouchers that now include the gratuity for the servers. No need for additional tipping.

Was your change / choice made primarely that you value SPG points / promos more than Hyatt ? Otherwise the difference is only $5 ?

Has anyone else had a problem getting stay credit for 24HR rate? We're booked for December $79, costco rate's only a few $ more. May switch if there's a problem. AAA rate is a bit less but we're not members.

The Sheraton Cerritos is a newer property. They almost always give me a suite.Free internet(wired and wireless)and full breakfast buffet for plats on weekends.

The new suites at the HR OC are quite nice as well. I have never stayed at a non suite room at the HR OC. The internet is free at the HR OC per GP changes earlier in the year.

The breakfast buffet at the Sheraton Cerritos is so so. I much prefer ordering whatever I want from the menu at the HR OC.

I am 1 for 3 on suites at the HR OC=the suite I received on my stay in December was a "family suite"with a kids play area and bunk beds in the second room!I did not bother switching since I was there for less than 8 hours before catching a flight out of LGB.
I had to chase the points/stay on that stay also-as I did on the stay before that.
My friends staying in the hotel did pay to upgrade to a two bedroom suite-nic but weird layout as the second bedroom was divided from the living area by a glass wall wilh a drop down shade.Never seen anything like that before-we had a lot of fun with it :D

Where do you find this $69+ rate?

Just stayed at this property Saturday night for $79.20+ Limited Time rate (review will follow). Today, 384 points posted (442 + 58 plat bonus) but the G3 points aren't there. Upon check-in the FD told me that it was a great rate especially with the G3 offer on the reservation ... so they are aware of it as it showed on their system ... but when will the Gx points post?

The breakfast offered at this hotel is the best out of all the domestic Hyatts that I have been to so far. You have to have the front desk deduct the cost of the tip. I was told that there is an issue with their computer system that they hope to correct soon.

They also went back to the Breakfast vouchers that now include the gratuity for the servers. No need for additional tipping.
Strange, I noticed this change back to the certificates as well my last stay... after a period this summer when I was told "just charge it to your room". I noticed the tip made it on to my folio about half the time.

My last stay I noticed the certificates are back, and they are the old ones (they still say "continental breakfast") with the gratuity included... so I left the table without leaving any additional tip. What's funny is... they figured a tip themselves and added it to my bill! I didn't complain as it was only a little over $2, but what is the "official" status on gratuities with free b'fast? Is the tip part of Diamond benefits??

Honestly, I don't think I would complain... I stay at this property frequently enough that I would feel like the cheapest person on earth if I started b*tching about a $2 tip on free breakfast! lol

I'm sorry to hear that you don't like the Hyatt OC, Bigguy! It's one of my favorites. The FD staff is really nice, and they know me by name. (Talia & Kendrick are my favorites).

The breakfast buffet is one of the best... and they recently brought back the omelette station even on weekdays!

The internet is "wired" but if you connect to WiFi, they will take it off your bill (T-Mobile). Plus, if you are in certain parts of the hotel and can connect to the "Hyatt" signal (instead of the T-Mobile one), the charge will not even appear.

I have a 100% success rate with suite upgrades, my favorite being the Conference King studio suite (thank you holtju2!). I just LOVE this room. The views are great looking over the atrium and up Harbor Blvd. Especially on the 17th floor!

Also these rooms are in the South Tower and the Hyatt WiFi signal is usually good there (and before HGP offered free internet for Diamonds, I used the open WiFi signal from the Marriott next door).

I admit I am usually there for Disneyland and it is a great location.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Cerritos, and it was not bad. But I still prefer the Hyatt OC hands down. And with the $69 sale and FFN's running right now... it is a complete blow out! No contest; Hyatt OC all the way!! ^

I guess nothing lasts forever. :(

The Hyatt is also tightening their parking enforcement: hang tags are now issued (why I'm not sure because the lot is gated), and the attendant gets there very early at 7am, at least on weekdays. It used to be the case that you could leave as late as 8-8:30a and there would be no one at the booth so you you could just drive out without any record (i.e. parking fee).

There's all kinds of free parking in the area for short term parking during the day (a few hours), I think the issue is overnight parking or longer term for several days for those staying at the hotel. I for one wouldn't leave my car parked in the shoe warehouse strip mall lot overnight.

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot this was coming. I return this weekend for a stay for the first time since November. Can anyone confirm if this has happened yet?

Yes. I was just there, and the old restaurant and bar area is blocked off with a temporary wall. The restaurant, and temporary front desk, are housed in the banquet area beyond the elevators in the South Tower.

Because the old restaurant are is walled off, you have to take a detour from the parking lot around the North Tower elevator lobby, past the Starbucks, past the old front desk, way down to the South Tower lobby. A long way to schlep your luggage.

The T-Mobile WiFi is what they have issues with, it is not meant to be complimentary for Diamond members. However, there is a "HotelNet" WiFi network that is available in some areas of the hotel that is not charged. The problem is, it is not available everywhere and the signal can be weak at times. I wish they would just get rid of the T-Mobile and replace it with their own system. That would eliminate the confusion and complaints from Diamond guests.

I have run into the T-Mobile hurdle, or speed bump, at several Hyatts and Hyatt Places. Sometimes it has just been my error to sign in that way, and sometimes it has appeared to be the only path to wireless. In either case, it appears to be just an inconvenience for the front desk to remove the charge.

And, JonathanIT, I have thought that HotelNet at the Hyatt was actually another nearby hotel's signal. Back in the day when we did have to pay for the Hyatt's signal, I was grateful for it and also what I think I remember was the Hilton property's free signal. Strange, because my Hyatt room number and registration info have always worked to log in! Also, the login page looks identical to the "wired" internet connection. However, recently I noticed that the login page is now gone; it looks like it's an open WiFi for anybody now. Before the free internet for Diamonds here, I used to use a signal from the Marriott Suites next door... but that seems to be gone now too (or changed).

One other update I noticed just today: they have started renovations on the South Tower! Floor 17 is now "locked off". The North Tower is completely finished, according to the FD.

Why do you like the conference king rooms? I have never been to this property.
They are very large rooms with a king bed, large sitting area with two sofas and two chairs, and a large conference (or dining) table with 4-6 chairs. Lots of room to spread out. Plus, the views are great as they are north facing in the South Tower, on the upper floors with floor to ceiling windows. Very open, and bright with lots of light. They have twice the window area of all other rooms because they are twice the width.

The one odd thing is that many of these rooms have balconies, but the doors do not open (they overlook the large 17 story atrium). I am writing this post sitting in one right now. And after the long rainstorms can I say how beautiful the view is right now on a gorgeous and bright sunny SoCal day! :)

The 1-BR suites are rather small and confining IMHO. The living room where you enter has no windows, so is rather dim. The bedrooms are better with large windows but still feel small. On the lower floors in suites facing the lobby it is a bit strange because in the bedroom you are standing in front of floor to ceiling glass just above the lobby. It's like you are on display in a zoo! Really weird.

I think overall the Conference King rooms are much bigger area wise than the one bedroom suites, by at least 50%. At least it feels that way.

Note: all of these rooms are in the South Tower, where they have has just started on the room renovations. It looks like floor 17 and maybe floor 16 are now "locked off". This will limit availability of these rooms as they are all on the upper floors in the South Tower. I can't wait to see them after they are completed, they will be spectacular! It is also worthwhile to note that you shouldn't be hesitant or concerned about them currently being unrenovated... they are hardly worn and completley fine.

Stayed here on a $69 rate last weekend. Was given one of the family suites with a bunk-bed. Not the greatest room, but if we had kids along it would have been great. Other than the parking fee it was a good stay for the price.

Um, there was a story|legend many years ago that, lets say that what happened during two conferences I attended at Hyatts - one in Atlanta, and one in New Orleans - happened there. If it can be any tougher on little kids, a lot more little kids stay there... (Or maybe because there are so many kids who stay in those rooms.) Well, anyway, that may be your explanation.

On a better note, congratulations on being there on such a spectacular day!

From the looks of it, they went with a different color scheme than the original plans in the new rooms. Last time I stayed here, I was given a renovated show suite (I believe the only renovated room at the time, per the front desk) and the carpet was a weird patterned brown/tan with laces of green in it. It was rather interesting to say the least. I had pictures of it, but have unfortunately since lost that memory card.

It's located within 2 miles of the hotel and pretty much anything your order is stellar (taste, quality, portion) LMK if you need recommendations.

I was told sometime a while ago that the rooms for a view of the fireworks are in the South tower and the view is through the atrium windows BUT, I stayed in a kids suite (1065) a few weeks ago and had a great view of the fireworks - and the room did not face the atrium. It also had an outside windows in both rooms which is extra nice. (They still don't open) It was a bit smaller than the other kids suites but didn't matter to us. My husband and I stayed in one room and daughter and her friend in the bunk beds in the next room.
Stayed again this weekend with a friend and our kids in room 1061. It had two windows in the kids room only, one overlooking the atrium and one outside - we could see some fireworks so it was nice although our kids are so used to seeing them all the time that it doesn't matter too much. I liked this room because it was bigger and had double doors between the bedrooms. Plus having at least one window facing outside (not through the atrium) is nicer. I have never liked atrium rooms - at any Hyatt.

It appears this property is involved in a labor dispute... about 11:00a this morning a large and boisterous contingent of laborers (and supporters) showed up with signs and began a picket line in front of the (temporary) main entrance. I think they were carrying signs referring to a carpenters union, although I can see (and hear) that the remodeling construction continues.

There Union picketing around 11 to noon, very noisy, the property is excellent. Breakfast is good serving at some kind of halls on left side.

Overall excellent deal!!!

When I checked out around 11 AM, after a great breakfast (thank you Ms. Vivian), the rambunctious picketers hollered at me criticizing the property in a disparaging manner. I turned around and snapshot this photo as I walked away towards my vehicle:

Update to add:

+ I asked about bathroom sizes in the rooms and suites, and was told that all rooms have the same basic bathroom, same sized bath tub, with only slightly different actual space. To me they are quite petite, and the bathtubs are small.

+ The renovated King Suites have a mini microwave and refrigerator in-room, and have two LCD/HDTVs, with the living room taking the cake with (I'd guess) a 52" panel. There are plugs on the desk to hook up your computer, camera, etc. I didn't have all of my cables, and didn't try it.

+ The renovated King Suites have a separator door between the bedroom and living room, which helps cut some hallway noise, but not atrium noise if you are on that side of the building.

+ There are NO in-room safes in any of the rooms I have been in. Odd for a "convention" hotel.

+ Street parking (maybe I shouldn't tell everybody, but here goes) on Chapman, just West of the hotel is free and usually available (2 block walk) and the restrictions on both sides of the street are NO PARKING on Thursday from 5:00 AM - 9:00 AM.

+ Hyatt Gift Certificate was accepted at check in on my recent stay and posted as a credit immediately. I was on the AAA BRK rate.

+ I would rate the Hyatt Hotels in the area as follows:

HR Huntington Beach A-
HR Irvine B+
HR Orange County B
HR Newport Beach C-
HR Long Beach C

Great report Robt760 thanks ^

I agree with pretty much everything you mentioned. The Kid's Suite, however, has three (3) LCD TVs, one in each bedroom and a large one in the living room. The bathroom, as you mentioned, is the same size as other suites/rooms in this hotel but you get two here.

Just curious... Why do you rate Irvine higher than OC? I stayed at both properties recently and found the properties to be equivalent (if you excuse the current renovation work). I agree - Huntington Beach is by the far the best out of all the OC properties.

Irvine has: a Regency Club and Regency Level Rooms, the restaurant is almost 2x better, hardly any noise pollution, does the GP extras like Robes in the room, Business Center, in-room safe, free airport shuttle.

Both: Similar comfort level is about the same since both have comparable bedding.

Orange County: More possibility of suite upgrades, newer furnishings and LCD/HDTV, Free shuttle to Disney/area, decent restaurants within walking distance.

Heck, maybe I should have rated Orange County/GG with a B-.

I disagree, I much prefer the Hyatt OC. The Irvine has a RC, but it is almost never open (but then with the 2,500 points bonus this could be better). Closed weekends to "closed for the holidays" I have heard every excuse.

RC "level" rooms are hardly any better (and a suite upgrade beats this in every way).

Restaurant is not that much better at Irvine, nearly identical menus. OC has Steak & Eggs on the breakfast menu; Irvine does not (corned beef hash instead). The only way it was better was ambience and decor... but that is being corrected. They do not always have the breakfast buffet at the HR Irvine, only weekends or maybe high occupancy. It is always offered at OC.

And one other BIG difference: Irvine charges gratuity to your folio for "free" breakfast. OC does not (in fact the new Diamond "full" breakfast coupons retain the old language that gratuity is still included).

Hyatt OC has a business center... or rather computers/printers free for guests on the 2nd floor of the South Tower. Not fancy but you can print stuff for free in a pinch.

"More possibility" of a suite upgrade? More like nearly guaranteed 100% upgrade rate for Diamonds vs. 0% chance at HR Irvine. I even burned an upgrade cert once at Irvine. It was not worth it.

I would add that the staff at the OC Hyatt is much better and friendlier IME at OC. Although they are doing a lot of hiring and turnover right now so we will see how that goes.

Plus, on average rates are significantly cheaper at OC than Irvine I have found. We will also see how this goes after the renovation is complete... they might try a rate hike.

So... that leaves the robe and room safe. I rarely use either. I would rate Irvine B- and OC B+ or maybe even A- for the suite upgrades and renovations.

Just MHO.

In my observation, the OC vs. Irvine rate picture flips at the weekend, almost all weekends.

I've always thought that the OC's rates were leavened by all the surrounding competition. If it were mainly quality, IMO, they could have charged more as is.

I would rate both the Hyatt OC and Irvine a solid B. Been to both frequently over the past 2 years. Each has its strong and weak points.

OC - terrific suite upgrade frequency (even got it as a lowly plat on a few occassions:))
IR - expect a mtn view room with balcony on club level at most for diamonds

Agree with Robt760, 6ix Park Grill at IR is far better (setting, food, atmosphere, with a fire-pit outdoor patio to boot) than the atrium restaurant at OC. Enjoy the bf buffet at IR more than OC even though the latter has an omelet station and includes gratuities (for AAA Breakf rate).

Except for those days when there's a large convention, when both hotels are awfully crowded, IR just feels much more peaceful/relaxing. Like the IR pool area better as well, which feels more resort-like than at OC. And fitness center at IR is fairly large and well equipped while OC's is mediocre.

But OC is very convenient to Anaheim tourist attractions and has the economical $69 hard hat rates, ideal for mattress runs. Lowest occassional wknd rates I've seen for IR were $89 though sometimes $99 with self parking included.

I agree. I think it is the best hotel in the resort area (with the exception of Disney's Grand Californian for a special occasion). The main Hilton Anaheim would be a contender if it weren't for the pathetic breakfast offering (at Sbux) for Diamonds since they closed the lounge. The new rooms there are nice and I've gotten some decent upgrades. The only drawback is the property is so huge and rambling. And also they have hiked their rates since their own renovation... there are less great deals there than there used to be.

Have you been recently? Although I have not been to the Irvine fitness center yet, I just went to to the OC fitness center a couple days ago. I was surprised because I had not been in a couple months (got lazy over the holidays).

The OC fitness center has expanded and is completely renovated. They actually annexed a guest room to double the size of the old one. The old room is now exclusively for weights/machines; the new half is where the cardio machines are. The entrance is now at the end of the hall instead of outside near the pool. They moved the hallway to the pool up a bit and it now leads outside before the entrance to the new fitness center. It's nice!

I agree the pool is a weakness at OC, but I rarely ever use hotel pools.

I agree that OC and Irvine are very similar, fairly good quality (especially the redone rooms), and that the BIG advantage of OC are the rates going on right now. I can't remember the last time I saw a Hyatt in So Cal with $59 or $69 rates (before you subtract out Costco certificate savings!)

These people who are picketing there are just demonstrating because union shop did not win the contract with the hotel. They have never been employed by the Hyatt.

Another minus for this location (as I sit here typing this)

+The desk chairs in the room are less than stellar. It's probably the one piece of furniture that has the look/style from 1990's. There is little (if no) back support!!

+Lighting is awkward in rooms. Nice that they chose energy efficient lighting, but, there's a lack of lighting overall.

As mentioned previously (maybe another thread) this property regularly upgrades Diamond members to suites... you do not need to use a certificate. I have even gotten family suites (two bedrooms, one with bunkbeds). Of course if you have no use for the expiring upgrades otherwise I guess it wouldn't hurt. Perhaps you could call the hotel and inquire about what your options are as a Diamond with an upgrade certificate.

Given the nature of this property, if you decide to use a suite upgrade certificate, while they may confirm you into a standard suite, I would not think you would have a problem requesting that they change it to a kid's suite.

Thanks for the pics, the room looks great! Honestly, I didn't even have a problem with the rooms before, they were not even that well worn. I love the new TV's except I'm afraid that as with many Hyatt's the system they are hooked up to still gives a terrible picture, and no HD. I am hoping when the renovations are complete they have an upgrade planned for the whole system.

One question though. I liked the way the old TV swiveled on the surface of the cabinet that used to be there... it looks like they replaced it with a new unit that goes to the ceiling. Can the new flat panel TV in the living area be turned at all towards the rest of the room? I enjoyed watching TV while working at the conference table on my computer. I hope this is still possible.

I jsut completed my 5th stay at this hotel this year. The property was adjacent to a meeting I was having this morning, and I managed to get a good rate.

I checked in at about 8:45 and was told that the hotel was sold out, so I wouldn't receive a suite upgrade. I received a remodeled room in the South Tower on the 17th floor, which was fine for my purposes.

About an hour after I checked in, I received a curious call from someone on the hotel staff (in retrospect, I should have gotten their name) who asked me whether I was planning to stay in the room last night. I was shocked to the point of calling the front desk to ask what would cause the hotel to think I was not staying there. The front desk staff denied any knowledge of the call.

Well, things got worse, about 45 minutes later, I received a knock on my door, and there was a hotel guest insisting that he had just been checked into my room. The FD manager managed to sort things out such that I did not need to move, however I find that this situation is alarming.

First of all, it is not the hotel's business whether I choose to stay in the room or not. The FD manager did acknowledge that he knew of a number of guests who checked in and left and even indicated that some of the folks released their rooms back. Coming in with a suitcase at almost 9 pm, I suspect that the FD staff should have known that I was staying. Hotel threw some points at me, and I went on my way this morning.

I have had nothing but good experiences at this hotel up to now, and I am inclined to let this go, but I do feel that the situation warranted mention here.

My guess is that the hotel has had a few local guests who have chosen not to stay in the room. The hotel is able to sell the room again to another party. However, there might be rules against this, which is probably why they were so quick to hand Trustguy points after mistaking him for a local guest on a mattress run.

FWIW, I stay at this property at the end of trips to Southern CA, so I actually need the room.

I just got back from my first ever Hyatt stay. I couldn't resist all of the bonuses/offers (Plat. status, BWB, Costco certs, G3 pts). And it was the last two days our Disneyland passes were valid. Gave me a new perspective on how non-locals enjoy Disneyland.

Great stay overall, left me with a good impression of Hyatt. Now I'm just a simple cheap leisure traveler, but I thought I can contribute some key/data points:

With an $84 AAA rate, I was upgraded to a 1BR King Suite on the 9th floor (can post pictures if anyone cares).
Asked to add G3 bonus on check-in, response was "Sure, that will get you 1500 Gold Passport points.".
[LIST]Shuttle was right on time, but don't wait until last second because 2 out of the 4 times we took it was completely full and people had to wait for the next. They pair with the Crowne Plaza, and sometimes with the Sheraton & Homewood Suites(?).
The OC Brewpub was very good, great beer selection and $8 for a customizable burger.
Called at 8AM day of check-out and was given a 2PM late checkout.
Monday morning there was construction: 8:15AM they had sheeted off an area, and upon return at 1PM they were jack-hammering constantly through check-out at 2PM. They were also putting film over the windows, but that had no impact on guests. Other than that there were no signs of construction in the place, and it looked very clean/new/fresh.
Free internet was wired only (cable provided). Although you get a roaming key after signing in with the wired connection, so that might clear you for wireless.

Going to do a MR for a free night at the Hyatt Kauai in July (hopefully).

I was at this property last night as well, and I'm happy to report that yes, the full Diamond suite upgrades at this property continue! So if you are a Diamond, it is recommended that you do not use the NOR1 for a paid upgrade, you will get a suite for free. ^

This was my first visit since the re-opening of the new lobby and restaurant and I am impressed. It turned out nicely. The restaurant buffet was as good as always, with the addition of a new permanent omelette station. The jackhammering this morning was a bit jarring but I'm sure that is temporary. :)

I know that people has been mention about street parking for this property, IS it pretty safe to do overnight street parking near the property? if it is, where would be the best location?
trying to save another $15 for onsite parking fee.

Parking on the side streets near the hotel looks pretty scarce (although I usually arrive afer 10 PM). I once found a spot on Harbor, north of the hotel, but the signage was ambiguous so I abandoned the idea.

I have noticed that on the last three occasions when I left the hotel parking lot before 7 AM there was no attendant at the gatehouse and the barrier opened automatically... the devil on my shoulder has suggested I am a sucker for paying at all...

book for rate of $101 AAA rate, and upgraded to executive suite for free.
FD told me that this is the last suite they have for today, almost sold out.
Tusca is open, and it seems like their remodel has been finish. Much better than previous lobby, suite is about double size as regular room with big L shape couch with oversized table w/ six chairs. Great customer service.+++

Lobby <ALMOST> finished. Re-routed elevators a bit of a puzzle, due to final floor tile installation. Like the new lobby except for: music. It's pretty loud in the evenings throughout the lobby, probably to make the bar seem more festive, but not great for fine dining. (Which it looked like no one was doing -- TusCA had no customers last night when we walked through). Music in TusCA this morning was insipid pseudo-jazz stuff, which is OK, but the speakers are on the ceiling of the booths, so if you get a booth with a "roof," the music is REALLY loud there. We moved to a freestanding table. Buffet was very good. We especially like the breakfast offerings here.

Stayed last week again and this was my first stay after the renovations were somewhat finished. I have to say that now it is a real jewel in the Hyatt chain. A pet peeve of mine was the relatively disgusting breakfast offering during the renovations which now transformed into a nicely presented buffet. I will be glad to go back soon and I'm especially glad there is not much reason to complain anymore. ^

The staff is outstanding as well ! ^

Maybe because I am probably one of their most frequent guests over the years I have always been allowed to order anything off the menu rather than the buffet. I am not a buffet person. Prefer the modified eggs benedict.

I have to remember that ! ^

Sometimes a chai latte and a nice pastry or 2 can be much better (and healthier) than a heavy breakfast with egg & co.

I'm wondering why they never offered that to me in the past as I was constantly complaining about the breakfast in the meeting room. :(

Just had a very brief stay here(3 hours to be exact!)and I was very pleasently suprised in the refurbished room and public areas.
I can also tell that the management has done some extra training for staff and my experience was a total turnaround from previous stays. The young lady who checked me in-April was friendly, polite, and courteous

The breakfast buffet was not only very yummy-it was actually interesting.
I have been critical of this property in the past-not any more.

I stayed here on Friday and had another pleasant stay at this dependably consistent property. We all know the familiar bath products, there was my standard Portico stuff in bathroom that we have all grown to know and love:

The standard bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion.

So I checked in again Sunday for another stay a day later, and imagine my surprise...

Look what I found! New upgraded Portico products:

Ok, I have a little trick here that I decided to share in this thread rather than the main Costco Cert thread because it will not work at all properties (maybe some others), and also it was actually revealed to me by a FD staff member at this hotel!

Of course everyone knows there is a Starbucks located in the lobby. Did you know, however, that Starbucks Gift Cards can be purchased at this property--in any amount--and charged to your room folio? :)

Figured it out yet? :D

For instance if your folio adds up to $94.59, you can simply go to the Starbucks and purchase a gift card for $5.41. Congratulations, you now owe a neat and tidy $100 on your room folio.

Of course the other bonus to this trick is that if you are a Starbucks fan like I am, you can now purchase Starbucks Gift Cards at 20% off! I added an extra $50 Sbux GC to my last room folio. A real bonus since Sbux Gift Cards are no longer available at Costco.

Yet another reason this remains my favorite local Hyatt property. The fact that a staff member at the FD recommended it is further proof that the service at this property is top notch. ^

First, not off topic at all, this is exactly the right place to ask your question about this property. ^

As has been mentioned, this hotel is good about regularly upgrading Diamond members to 1BR suites without any certificates. In your case, since that won't be sufficient for your needs, I would call the hotel or the Diamond Line (who would call the hotel on your behalf) and find out exactly what a Diamond upgrade certificate would procure. You can mention your desire for the 2BR suite and see what they say. My guess is that if it is not an especially busy weekend, they might accommodate you, this property has a reputation for good customer friendly service.

If you were to book two standard rooms, you would probably end up with two one bedroom suites as a Diamond, which would probably be more space than you need. Just as a data point, I was put in a "Family Suite" one time on an especially busy weekend when my regular preferred suite upgrade was not available (because of my frequent stays the FD staff knew exactly what my preferred suite was and apologized that it was not available). It was two bedrooms (one King bedroom and in the other a bunk bed), one bathroom, and no parlor/living room. It was fine, but not sure if it would suit your needs.

And, please report back on what is learned if you do contact the hotel. We would all be interested! :)

Thanks very much for your replies.

I called the diamond line and was informed that a suite upgraded at this hotel would be to a 1br king or queen as that is the standard suite, I asked what I would be upgraded as a diamond on a regular stay and conference king or comparable was the answer. I politely declined to use my cert on that room and called the hotel and got somewhat the same answer.
From reading on the thread if I understand clearly the upgrades at this property are to 1bd suites or conference suites at the least, as there is no in between from standard rooms to suites.

I will try the hotel one more time in the morning and ask again but if all else fails I'll book 2 rooms, and get double stay credit at the least. Or maybe my estandby will go through and I'll upgrade at check-in.

Any other info or advice?

It's too bad that upgrade certificates won't get you more than what they offer for free... but then again I can't complain that they're offering the suites for free in the first place!

If you really want the 2BR family suite then I would book a regular room and select the NOR1 eUpgrade, as the cost would be much less than booking it outright... I think even at the "suites on sale" rate. If it doesn't come up on the NOR1 offer page, you could always cancel and rebook.

My other plan would be too book two standard rooms at the best possible rate and probably get two suites on check-in.

I'm not sure, however, if booking two rooms for the same dates would actually get you two stay credits. You would collect points on both for sure.

I was in that situation earlier this year, was talking my teenage daughter and 2 friends to the hyatt and wanted to use Diamond Upgrade cert preferably for a 2 bedroomed suite. I called in adavance and they said htis was noted , on arrival was offered a 1 bedroomed suite. Told them this was what I was upgraded to routinley at this property when I stayed and if possible would like the larger suite. After a lot of back and forth I was finally offered a Family VIP suite which is very nice. But if you cannot guarantee this, you may want to book the 2 bedroomed Queen suite at the suites on sale rate, this gives you 1 king size room with bathroom and one brdroom with 2 Queens and a bathroom and lounge area between with sleeper, frige etc.
Or take a chance book 2 reg rooms and you may get those upgraded anyway to 1 bedroom suites.
Sorry to be long winded but using the Diamond Upgrade Cert , does not seem to get you anything more than not using one!

holtju2
May 11, 10, 10:32 am
If you need a specific suite you should book it. You cannot count on any property upgrading you to one or that the Nor1 upgrade is available on that particular day/weekend.

This property goes way beyond what is required by the program for Diamonds and I can see unrealistic expectations set on this thread..

Actually, I would say that the upgrade cert does in fact get you more than what you would receive otherwise: a confirmed upgrade. Using the cert guarantees that you will receive a base-level suite. Without the cert you are subject to the demand for paid rooms.

The fact that this property routinely provides complimentary upgrades to 1br suites for Diamonds does not mean that you should raise your expectations for what accommodations you will receive when using a certificate. It just means that they are a very generous property.

I would much prefer this arrangement over one where a property purposely holds back upgrades in order to preserve the 'exclusivity' of a certificate upgrade.

A dozen or more years as a Diamond, and I can count my suite upgrades on one hand...with three fingers to spare. Just checked into a suite here. $84.15 AAA rate.

Great experience so far. Easy check-in...early! G3 bonus I requested with on-line check in confirmed by front desk agent without prompting. ^ Fantastic gym - perfect 58 degrees fahrenheit. Functional HVAC in the room. "The Usual" single-cup coffeemaker. :(

Ample free parking long Chapman. (I'll let you know if my car is gone come sun-up. Would-be auto burglars: that baby is stripped clean of valuables.)

The car survived unscathed. Chapman is a pretty big/busy street, and it's easy to park near Harbor, which is even bigger and busier.

Overall, I had a great stay and will be back. Breakfast on the AAA rate was far better than average.

My only gripe is a minor one: to get from the North Tower to the South (where the pool and gym are located), guests have to walk through the lobby. The lobby should be a place for wet flip-flops, and half-naked, towel-wrapped kids...or adults. I wish I'd had something to wear other than gym clothes and suits.

Is the parking lot operated by the hotel itself? (I think this is a requirement for it to be an eligible expense for the hotel credit).

From now on, I think I am going to request a non-atrium room. They usually give me a king suite that faces the atrium. With the lobby renovation now complete, you can really hear people talking or shouting in the atrium because of all the hard surfaces. The lobby did turn out nice.

I just got back from a 3 night stay over memorial weekend at this property. Over all it was a great stay. I had questions that I had asked on FT before hand about the upgrades and booking 2 rooms. I needed the space of a 2 room suite but couldn't confirm the 2 room suite with the upgrade cert. only standard suite. So I ended up using a suite cert on 1 room and booked a 2nd room. Just to confirm the upgrade as some of you advised. Must of been some mix up though because my reservation went from being 2 rooms with 2 queens to 1 king bedroom and 1 room with 2 queens. I had called the hotel and they confirmed the suite upgrade.

When I checked in Friday afternoon everything was processed very quickly, I was acknowledged as a diamond member and I was offered welcome amenity and took the points. I didn't ask anything further even though I should of but with kids and the rush to get to the room I didn't think much of it. Went up to the room in the south tower and walked into a 2 queen room:confused: walked out and checked the other room another 2 queen room both high floor facing the atrium. No suite upgrade:confused: I know everyone says not to expect it but after reading about all the automatic upgrades I was kind of expecting it for the other room. So I called down to the front desk talked to a very nice gentlemen and explained to him I booked 2 rooms and used a suite cert for one of them and even mentioned it in my comments and called the hotel to confirm. I was on hold for 3-4 minutes and then he apologized and said he can offer me a family VIP suite in the north tower. I thanked him and went down to get keys because I need my updated receipt and diamond breakfast vouchers. Diamond breakfast cert for all 3 days and covered guests in both rooms along with tax and gratuity. FD said that he tried to get us as close together on the same floor, there was one problem the 2nd room the kids suite wouldn't be ready until Sat. but mentioned that he would do it all as an upgrade and not use any suite cert.^

The family VIP suite is really a nice set up when with kids, it has a large sitting area in between 2 rooms, one bedroom with a king and bathroom and the other bedroom with bunk beds that the kids loved and another bathroom that we loved.
The kids suite is also nice but smaller with no sitting area, 1 bedroom king with frosted french doors separating bunk beds for the kids room and only 1 bathroom.

Over all a great experience and a nice hotel. The breakfast is good and really helps out with the kids. Disney shuttle is also convenient, $19 valet parking on the other hand isn't so much. I know I could of parked on the street but I was lazy. Other than that it was a great stay with the only other hotel in the Disney area for me being the Sheraton Park, I'll stay here again and again.

I'm happy everything worked out for you, I remember your OP. Once again I am reminded of how much I like this property, and much of that is due to the staff. Not only because of my personal experience but because I have heard much about how well they treat not just Diamond members, but everyone.

Probably about the same as a cab in the afternoon.

I doubt many travelers do this, as this property is pretty out-of-the-way for LAX. Traffic can be dicey for that distance, so it would be foolish to depend on a cab for an early plane. There are much closer Hyatts to LAX.

Had a 2 night stay at this property and I'm very unimpressed. The "suites" were pretty much a slightly upgraded Hyatt Place layout.

Positive: Good location close to Disneyland

Negative: Huge line for breakfast, about 45 minute wait on the weekends to get a table. Only one restaurant open and very little space
"Suites" has no windows except in the bedroom. Very dark. Tiny bathrooms
Pools are way to small for this property. When I stayed there, one of the pools were closed from 2-9PM due to a wedding. The smaller pool was open, but absolutely overcrowded.
TV had an issue, called to get it fixed, nobody ever showed up

Talked to the manager about the issues I had and got a night comped. At the cheap rate I had, the compensation doesn't persuade me to go back

Just completed a stay - a couple things that may not have been mentioned:

City of Anaheim runs a Disneyland shuttle for $4.00 for all day transport that leaves from the Embassy Suites next door, tickets are purchased inside that hotel.

.......

Hyatt has a free shuttle to Disneyland, leaving every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour, and leaves Disney on the return at 20 min and 50 min after the hour. Why pay for the Embassy Suite transport?

We stay here every year for our annual Disney trip for the past 7 years. The kids consider the rides on the white bus to and from the parks as part of the Disney experience.

Seems like with the summer holidays and the tourists the place gets more and more a little overcrowded. Maybe they should install a fest track line for Diamonds at the restaurant. For Business Travellers it is not acceptable to wait 45 minutes for a table just to have breakfast. I dont find the pool worth noting in the first place but anyway together with an event poolside I can see the plan falling completely.

I like the somewhat bringhter colours used at this property and the renovation work. One comped night so 50%... sounds reasonable however it cant make a bad stay good. Maybe 10.000 Points would have been a better option.

Wow, that does sound crazy. In all my stays at this property, I have never had to wait for a table at breakfast... weekends, holidays, conventions... whenever. I have never seen the restaurant even close to full.

I enjoy my upgraded accommodations here, and don't use hotel pools, so I guess I don't have the same problems. I do however, like the renovated fitness center a lot (near the pool in the South Tower).

Sorry your stay was unsatisfactory, but I would urge you not to boycott the hotel over it... I think it is a good solid property with a great staff. As a suggestion, tell them you didn't like your suite last time and ask for other options. Worth another shot IMHO.

The hugely long breakfast line was about the only sore point on my stay as well. We waited about 25 minutes, and by the time we were seated, the line was twice as long. I don't know if a Diamond line would be appropriate here; perhaps a confirmed reservation time would better suit business travellers on a fixed schedule. At the very least they could set up some stanchions and form a real line. The way it snakes through the lobby is very unappealing.

If you are frequent guest enough there are other options available.

What do you mean? I suggested comping room service for Diamonds to the manager on duty I talked to on Sunday. He said room service came from the same restaurant and would just make room service slower. BTW, we did of course not wait in line for breakfast, it was worse than a Vegas buffet line. I observed the line from our "suite". We went elsewhere and paid for breakfast on Saturday and on Sunday the manager comped Starbucks instead of waiting.

But a Starbucks breakfast is hardly a solution or a good option compared to a good sit down breakfast.

BTW, it looked like the everyone staying at the property had free breakfast included in rate. It might be a good idea to not sell more rooms w breakfast packages than the restaurant can handle.

I observed the same thing as baliktad. The line for breakfast taking over the entire lobby was absolutely cheesy...

Whatever they do, they need to resolve these issues.

Another option for us who live in SoCal is to use this property for a MR, no breakfast lines to worry about ;). However, I was annoyed yesterday that I had to wait 10 minutes to check in, even though they have a Diamond and Platinum sign on one of the counters :td:

LOL I checked in yesterday and experienced the same problem. People just don't care about the elite lines. Parents don't have much patience when there are screaming kids with them. Breakfast was good tho :)

I was talking to one of the Executives, Greg Peterson, about the same issue. He mentioned they were planning to have the Diamond check-in placed elsewhere. I waited over 10 minutes upon check-in as well and they were calling people from the other line over until I went there and said it should be time to switch the Elite line back on now.

Alot of the AAA Rates have breakfast included I recognized and these rates went for 74.15$ ! No wonder everyone is lining up. At check out they also messed up my billing again, parking is included in our Corporate Rate. They charged it and gave me a reciept. I complained and the girl said the CC has already been charged so would have to be reversed. However they put the money back on the CC the reservation was made with and not on the one I used for Room Charges. W T F ? I mean seriously, either tell the guest whats on his bill or print a folio but not run all charges and then present the printout. :td:

Line at breakfast was horrid as well and room service leftovers all over the hallway the night I arrived.

The Manager promised to follow up but never did, this week I contacted the Hotel again to get an answer, I also demanded some GP points. He replied they cant compensate points and would upgrade me to a suite next time I stay. Sorry, but my stays at the Hyatt OC are never more than 10 hours at max. For that I dont need a suite. Will escalate my complaints to Hyatt Corporate now since the hotel doesnt seem to work on it (as we can all see by the reports here).

This property treats their frequent Diamond guests exceptionally well.

Seems that you are a "complainer" as demonstrated on other threads here on FT as well.

If you don't like the property or Hyatt program just stay elsewhere.
