Price is similar, and flight times are almost identical...

Which has better entertainment? Better food? Better seats?

I'm planning to fly this December 2012

Iberia of course. Their C class hard product is good, Lan has better customer service but worsed food and overall C class product.

Enjoy fine pre-flight dinning in Iberia Lounge at T4S.
Check their fares well in advance as they are overbooked even in C class.

LAN of course! Better AVOD, wide selection of beverages and wines, new Bulgari amenity kits, younger cabin attendants, new duvets and pillows, access to IB's lounges. Oh, and LAN might be operating the SCL-MAD-FRA route with the B-787 by December!

SCL767 on FlyerTalk! Big fan of your posts on airliners!

Why doesn't OP fly both LAN and IB? Assuming it's a round trip, outbound could be booked with LA and inbound with IB (or vice versa) on IB codes as they tend to be cheaper. Report back with your impressions!

Haha, goood idea.. But my main goal is really to pick the best option (rather than experience the two out of curiosity)..

I have flown Iberia 2 years ago on MAD-MVD and was very happy overall... I guess I wwanted to maake sur than LAN has good longhaul service (you never know from one airline to another.. I have flown Business on AeroMExico and was very disappointed)

I would definitely fly LAN for the SCL-MAD sector if possible as IB's flight timing on this is horrible - leaves SCL at 1200 so not much chance of sleeping.

I'm Spaniard and I avoid Iberia at all costs. This airline is a terrible ambassador of Spanish culture with its down right mean-spirited and consistently rude service both on the ground and in the air.

LAN is much, much better, and in J, you will even get soft duvets, not the itchy blankets IB provides.

LA is better. I do like IB's seat in J but the food on LA is better in my opinion and the seat is slightly more comfortable.
More importantly the crew tends to be more attentive on LA than IB (I-dontcareaboutyourwell-B-ing) or better "I-B on strike"
