View Full Version : Advice on CDG Terminal 2e lounge?

After having had Air France change our flight times from Paris to HCM City, we are now lumbered with a 7 hour wait at the airport after arriving in from Edinburgh. Air France won't offer us any lounge access as compensation to the flight change so I'm trying to figure out our options. We don't want to go into Paris so it will just be a case of making the best we can of our time in the terminal.

We arrive at 1220 and are due to depart again at 1915, both flights arrive into and depart from Terminal 2e. What is the main lounge area like? Can we go out of this terminal to others if they have more facilitiies? Does 2e have free wifi? I've also been considering paying for lounge access but it looks like it will cost us 50 euros each. Can anyone advise what the paying lounge is like? While I am a Flying Blue member, I'm on the lowest bracket as we don't fly often and it's generally economy. This time we have paid more for premium economy but I don't think that will get us a free pass into the lounge area.

Any advice would be good. I fear our return journey may also see us stuck in 2e for many hours as the connection is very tight but I'll worry about that when it happens!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FT!

Have you asked AF about putting you on a later EDI-CDG flight to reduce the waiting time at CDG?

As a Premium Voyageur passenger, you can buy access to the Air France business class lounge for E35 per person.

I don't think you can get there, but CDG 2A has an AC Maple Leaf Lounge which is in Priority Pass. It's airside.

I've noticed some people hanging out in the CDG Sheraton lobby bar area and using WiFi. I'm not sure what the terms are, whether buying F&B would be enough or if you just purchase time with a credit card. They have the standard Sheraton lobby business center with printers. There's also a restaurant there.

You might want to consider getting a day room, although if you must leave it by 5 pm, it wouldn't be real helpful given your flight schedule.

You would indeed need a boarding pass for a flight leaving from 2A on the same day.

7 hours is a hell of a long time to wait in any airport public area and indeed, even if you bought access, in any lounge. If I were you, I would consider three options:

- either go to Paris to enjoy a nice lunch and early afternoon break (take the RER B southwards - preferably one of the fast ones - you could get off either at Chatelet Les Halles (north bank) or St Michel Notre Dame (south bank) both of which are in very interesting areas. Or you could also take the Roissybus to Opera if you prefer.

- or stay in the Roissy area and get a day room. The Ibis tends to have reasonable rates I think. The Sheraton is better located (walking distance from 2E) but more expensive.

- or, as suggested by mtkeller ask AF to move you on to the next EDI-CDG flight to shorten the transit.

I would not want to spend 7 hours, even in the rather nice lounge, before a 13 hour flight.

I would personally avoid the long

Thanks in advance.

Paid Premium Economy on AF should give you lounge access in CDG lounges (except patio lounge 2G).

Free access to the CDG lounges applies to Premium Eco (the medium-haul product), not to Premium Voyageur (the long-haul product); as the OP is flying from CDG to SGN, I don't think he will have free access to the lounge at CDG.

You are right, I got confused by the wording. Somtimes Voyageur is Economy and sometimes it's not! Only paid lounge access available in this case.

Actually, Voyageur is always economy. The thing is that Premium eco is sometimes 'Premium Economy' (medium haul) and sometimes Premium Voyageur (long haul). Things will soon get clearer as AF travel classes will be transformed into:

Premiere (no change)
Business (instead of Affaires and Premium Affaires)
Premium Economy (instead of Premium Economy and Premium Voyageur)
Economy (instead of Voyageur).

Apart from being a change in names AF is determined to significantly revamp/improve its 'front' offer on all flights (except domestic) with only the first few details (such as the future of the long haul J seat) having transpired thus far.

This new definition will be much more clear. It will be interesting to see how they willl manage lounge access for the new premium economy class (as for today's premium eco or as for today's premium voyageur)

It's also interesting that they're replacing some French words with English ones.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. We can't change our flight, Air France only have a few flights a day to Paris, the one after the one we've been assigned to would miss the connection to SGN. Odd they have a 8 hour gap between flights!

I was reluctant to head into Paris because, from asking the question on Trip Advisor, it seemed a 7 hour wait would only allow an hour in Paris once you factor in all the travelling time and going back through security. I agree sitting in any airport lounge for 7 hours will be a nightmare but what can we do? I guess we will see what happens when we get there ( hope our flight from Edi is delayed!) and if the main lounge isn't up to scratch, consider paying some money for the nicer one.

Has anyone been in the paid lounge? Is it worth the money?

No, we are definitely talking about 3h/3h30 in Paris if your flight is more or less on time. Again, if that's an option and you don't want to go to Paris, I'd personally aim for a day room at the Ibis or so.

...hope our flight from Edi is delayed!...
Sorry to disappoint you but according to Murphy's law, in cases like that you always get a) tail winds and b) un-congested skies, and thus, your flight is always early. ;)

Ha ha, I was trying to be as optimistic as possible but yes, agree that knowing our luck, the flight will be early and of course the flight departing CDG will be late!

I'll have a re-consider of nipping into Paris, get all the details for how best to get there and we can see how we feel when we arrive.

Thanks everyone, you've all been v helpful.

Orbitmic, at the DO it was mentioned that they were looking at changing the name (specifically the use of Voyageur). Is this official, and if so, any idea when they plan to implement? Just curious
