After 15 years in business they are denying me my RA priveleges I was supposed to use by end of this week:mad:
Hotel pulled out of IC all of a sudden by end of May 2012.
Shoud have been an oasis after Mashhad, and Turkmenabat:D
But it will give us the 50k from Raddison promo then.

That's too bad. This surely must have been one of the most obscure IC properties. I had to cancel a trip last year and was hoping to get there soon. Oh, well.
The article is funny. It says they changed the name to "InContinental." I have no doubt that they simply covered up or painted over the letters "ter"; similar to Belgrade, and probably other places, in "re-branding."

Yes, got an email from IHG a couple of weeks ago; very disappointing.
Right now getting a visa for Uzbekistan is a major PITA, so probably I won't need the hotel anyway ;)

I can highly recommend the Radisson just opposite of the street. I got once severely food poisoned at the IC. It took me more than a week to recover. Since then I avoid this hotel.

“Tashkent's Intercontinental Hotel is experiencing very low occupancy rates as the result of fewer foreign visitors, a situation that has caused cash flow and other problems for the hotel,” the then US ambassador to Uzbekistan Jon Purnell said in the “Counting pencils at Tashkent’s InterContinental Hotel, on 15 March 2007.
I dif not know that the US Ambassador has to deal with issues of a local hotel franchise owned by an English group.

The 3 of us with our car from Europe had our Uzbek visas, but had our Turkmen transit visas rejected today (no entry clearance from Ashgabat) at the consulate in Mashhad despite using a local agent. 4 days left of the Iran visa, so backtracking to Europe OR trying our luck via Herat, Afghanistan to Uzbekistan.

Woah that is some exotic travels there. I always wondered if I would survive such destinations.
Tomorrow I'll be flying to NBO to try out the IC for a night. Never been to Africa so it will be interesting!
Anyways, was this property the one that was on PB a few months back? I remembered an IC from this region on the list.

I wonder if the hotel will honor a prepaid IHG booking made online long ago.....The IHG e-mail stated that "the hotel will be able to honor your reservation as you had originally booked it with IHG" -- hopefully this applies to prepaid reservations too....

Honor it, sure, but will you get Priority Club points and benefits? I assume not.
I wonder if they would let you cancel for a refund under the circumstances, as a hotel in the U.S. or U.K. surely would?

Oh, the IHG email was clear on the first count, but not so much on the second. To quote, the hotel "will be unable to offer Priority Club benefits, points, or credit for the stay. If you have any questions or need to cancel your reservation, please contact the hotel directly."
So cancellation for a refund is up to the hotel, it seems. I personally don't want to cancel, though, since my primary objective was to find a decent hotel in Tashkent.

Backtracked to Bucharest for some PB nights. Car is at MB for service after 12000 km in 3 weeks (35$/h). We fly around some other european countries adding some side road trips with other cars for 3 weeks, before flying back to OTP for another try for the summit (=Kyrgyzstan). This time through Ukraine/Moldova/Russia/Kazakhstan. Working on new set of visas:D
Afghanistan a short notice with tight schedule (expiring Uzek visa) was just not doable.
