I was waiting in line at FLL yesterday for a agent to get my car rental. When it was my turn guy came to me and escorted me to a kiosk machine, I thought since I had a reservation I was going to do a automated check in like you do with the airlines. Actually there was a agent on a small screen and he walked me through the car rental in less then 5 minuntes. I asked the supervisor where the agent was and he said in Oklahoma City. This is actually not a bad idea for agents in a off site location to help at location with car rentals when there is a long line of people waiting to rent a car.
Has anyone else had a similar experience at FLL or at another location.

Tangentially related, for several years now there are ATMs that have similar technology built in, so that virtual face-to-face branch-level banking can be done (i.e. advisory transactions, non-transactional customer service, etc) in addition to simple ATM transactions. They haven't taken off as much as I'd have expected though...
