In the end the upgrade via OLCI stayed at 1547E per person, so last minute decided to upgrade with cash + miles.

AMS - MEX
originally booked in Q + EC seats at € 98 p/p

Upgrade
€ 152 (€250-€98)+ 32.500 miles p/p

Now, so basically I upgraded to a M fare?! and then upgraded with miles. So aren't I entiteld to recieve miles and BlueBiz points, based on a M fare ticket?

I just checked and saw that I got my miles for the originally Q fare?

I think so as you paid cash to upgrade a fare class. (you did get the EC refunded?)

No you don't pay up to a real upgradeable fare - you just pay a (reduced) fixed fee depending on your booking class (here q) in addition to miles. If you had been charged the difference to m it would have costed you far more than this. So you correctly received your q miles

Did you 'regularly' upgrade to M and then with miles, or was it kind of a combination upgrade? In the last case orbitmic is correct.

I may be wrong but €250from Q + miles sounds like the fixed price combo amount. At least that's what I assumed. If it was an actual ticket change you're right then of course things are indeed different.

Nevertheless, each and every time I had to go to a ticket office (the lounge agents could not do it), where they first reissued the ticket in B class, and only then processed the upgrade. A very time-consuming way of doing it.

Well this was true for me also. The guy at the lounge said I would receive miles per the new booking class, and that it was M...however he also said it would earn 75%, while M gives 100%...so don't know how sure he actually was.

Went to the transfer desk, since ticketing at the lounge was gone? first she upgraded my ticket to another fare base (yes, I did get the EC refund, therefore only paid 152 extra each) and then made the upgrade with miles.

I'll just write a letter when I get back and see what they say.

Curious to my Aeromexico flight as well, since I upgraded that one @ Mexico City Airport. New booking class shows R, which at klm.com/fb site doesn't earn a thing :o

My experience is: when you upgrade cash+miles from your cheap, normally un-upgradable fare you get the miles of the original fare. It might well be the case that some ticket-offices do so by going via an upgradable fare, but this is not the way that this cash+miles concept is intended to work.
As it was already mentioned: upgrading to a truly upgradable fare and then using miles is way more expensive.

Is I mentioned previously, in every single instance I have done this, my original ticket was reissued in B class. The fare I paid was the standard upgrade amount, that varied depending on the original fare class. If I remember correctly, the lowest bucket could not be upgraded, then prices started at €350,.. decreasing in increments of 50,-- for each higher fare bucket.

All my upgrades were so long ago that all Y fares still earned 100%.

This is actually what I understood of this deal to. Since you can only do it on the day of departure, it's a 'discounted' rate to upgrade to a 'upgradable' fare. Therefore you would pay a discounted fare to M or B or Y (whatever is available) and then pay with miles.

As I said, I will e-mail when I get back and let you know what they said. At least the Crown Lounge Rep. assured me miles by the new booking class.
