If anyone is coming to Prague and need some advice, feel free to ask me=) Yosemite Jun 9, 12, 5:32 pm Where is your home country? Dolphinyong Jun 10, 12, 1:51 am Malaysia=) I'm studying Medicine in Charles University of Prague=) Are you from Czech? adventureadam Jun 10, 12, 9:35 am Hi Dolphinyoung...what are some of your favorite places in Prague? It's always interesting to hear someone else's perspective. Dolphinyong Jun 12, 12, 10:51 am Hi, I saw your travelblog regarding Prague F&Q, it's very informative=) Personally, I like : 1. Morning at Petrin hill 2. Before noon along Vltalva river 3. Afternoon at Charles Bridge 4. Evening at Prague Castle ( I think the night scene at Prague Castle is kinda nice, but of course, you need some companion) For restaurants : Smíchovský radniční sklípek (cheap and nice Czech food) KOLKOVNA CELNICE ( it's a bit more expensive and nicer) For hotels : Courtyard Flora Prague (you can get it for euro40 per night, pm me if you wanna know how to get it.) Of course, I think you are much more familiar than me about Prague, do add some information for sharing=) Regards=) Hi Dolphinyoung...what are some of your favorite places in Prague? It's always interesting to hear someone else's perspective. adventureadam Jun 12, 12, 12:25 pm Oh I respond to people all the time...but sure: The views at Vysehrad and Letna are great any time of day, but especially at sunset., and I really like the walk from Vinohrady down under the bridge and back up against to Vysehrad. Probably because I did it so many times my first summer in Prague. I like Prague's cemeteries, especially Olšanské hřbitovy. Sitting in Miru during a nice day and people watching. But of course, the places I go to stay away from tourists aren't places I talk about on message boards ;) How do you get the courtyard Flora for 40 euros a night? that's a great deal. Dolphinyong Jun 12, 12, 2:07 pm Agree=) Especially for the Vinohrady and Namesti miru=) Letna is kinda far, been there once during the winter=) I wanna keep it close for how to get the Courtyard Flora cheap rate, it's publicly available rate, just need some trick, not something illegal, of course=) Just don't wanna draw the attention of Marriott=) PM me if anyone interested=) Adventureadam, maybe we can both contribute for this thread=) Oh I respond to people all the time...but sure: The views at Vysehrad and Letna are great any time of day, but especially at sunset., and I really like the walk from Vinohrady down under the bridge and back up against to Vysehrad. Something about Tramvaj always drags me back, but my lungs can't take it anymore :) railways Jun 12, 12, 3:11 pm OK, if I can interrupt this intra-Prague love-in between you guys ... :D Where in Prague are there big screens to watch the England (no doubt losing) and Czech football matches this weekend? (With beer on tap of course ... :p) Dolphinyong Jun 12, 12, 4:06 pm I would like to know also, but as far as I know, you can catch the match in some nice sports bar. Maybe some other would have some info on this? Well, England losing? No way...haha=) OK, if I can interrupt this intra-Prague love-in between you guys ... :D Where in Prague are there big screens to watch the England (no doubt losing) and Czech football matches this weekend? (With beer on tap of course ... :p) There's a giant FanFest with a big screen in Old Town Square. You can probably pay a pretty penny for draft beer at one of the cafes around, or bring your own cans or bottles :) adventureadam Jun 13, 12, 1:04 pm So which do you guys prefer - Prvni Pvni Tramvaj of Pivovarsky Klub? Something about Tramvaj always drags me back, but my lungs can't take it anymore :) To be honest, I never visit either one. In nice weather I'm in a beer garden and in foul weather one of about five bars I frequent, none of which are very nice or touristed ;) railways Jun 13, 12, 2:02 pm There's a giant FanFest with a big screen in Old Town Square. You can probably pay a pretty penny for draft beer at one of the cafes around, or bring your own cans or bottles :) Thanks: almost certainly will be the latter - couldn't afford Old Town Square prices! bamboola Jun 14, 12, 2:19 pm While we have visited most of Western Europe, we have only been to Croatia in Central Europe. We will be visiting Prague this summer. My question - if your parents were to visit you, where would you take them? What would be some top recommendations for them in terms of sights, food, etc? We don't plan on hiring a guide or taking tours. We like to do things slowly on our own. Dolphinyong Jun 14, 12, 2:21 pm Hi Bamboola=) Hope that I'm able to help you somehow. I strongly recommend both of you to go to have a stroll up to Petrin Hill in the morning, depending on what month you are visiting, the flowers in the garden there might be there to welcome you=) You can choose to have a stroll up the hill (it's not steep at all) or you may wanna take the tram all the way up the hill=) There's a coffee shop/restaurant on the hill and another half way up the hill. Having a coffee there, enjoying the view of Prague, you won't regret=) You can have lunch at any Czech restaurant nearby when you come down from Petrin hill, Czech restaurant always offer lunch menu at about 100czk (4euro) for a descent Czech meal, it comes with soup sometimes=) Then, you can go to the Wenceslas Square, it's a huge, long road starting with the majestic Prague National Muzeum. You would find all sorts of shops alongside the Wencesles Square road. Walking all the way down the road, you will reach the NewYorker, from there, follow the crowd or ask around, then you will reach the Old Town Square of Prague. Depending on when you are visiting, there might be a market there=) The astronomical clock there would strike every hour and something would happen, check it out=) Visit the Bohemia Crystal right in front of the astronomical clock, they offer crystals with reasonable price=) Then, I guess it would be your dinner time=) I would recommend KOLKOVNA CELNICE within 15minutes walk from Old Town Square of Prague. Just ask around how to get to that restaurant or Palladium Shopping Centre (the restaurant is just around the corner from this shopping centre). Here is the link to this restaurant : http://www.kolkovna.cz/index.php?place=13&show=hot Try there pork dish and czech beer, they are the specialty of Czech=) For the next day, I recommend you to go Vltava in the morning, get to the metro station named Karlovo Namesti, and follow the sign written 'Palackeho Namesti', you will get to the Vltava river=) Bring along some bread to feed the swan there, that's the most relaxing thing to do for me and my gf when we have some time=) After that, take the tram number 17 tram from Palackeho Namesti tram stop (it's just by the river) to Staromeska stop (ask somebody before you board the tram, it's somehow confusing sometimes) Getting down at Staromeska stop, head towards the famous Charles Bridge (Karluv most in Czech language). There's a particular statue on the bridge, you would see people queueing to touch it, join them, Czech people believe it brings you good luck=) Then, go towards the other end of the Charles bridge, just follow the crowd or ask around, Prague Castle is within 20minutes of walking. It's a fantastic castle with an amazing bird eye view of Prague. If you are tired after the Charles Bridge, you can actually visit Prague Castle the following morning. That's pretty much about Prague. Also, you may wanna visit Namesti Miru, The Woods and Prague Zoo if you have more time. If you think that Prague is not enough for you, you may wanna take a short bus trip (2hrs) to Karlovy Vary, it's a city full of Czech culture=) Have you found an accommodation? I found out that Courtyard Flora only cost you 40 euro per night all inclusive, the nearest underground station is just 100metre away. If you are a already a marriott member, just utilize marriott LNF and you will be able to get the rate. It's a nice 4star hotel=) If you are not yet a marriott member, just send me your email address and I will send you referral email, both you and me will get 2000 points per one stay of yours up to 5stay. And I will help you to the marriott LNF rate of euro40=) Hope you and your husband would have a wonderful time in Prague. By the way, do you mind if I post our private message on the forum thread? That might be helpful for the other FTer too=) Regards=) While we have visited most of Western Europe, we have only been to Croatia in Central Europe. We will be visiting Prague this summer. This invariably happens when I plan a little foreign trip - so I should do it more often, of course.:p Big shame, because a trip to Prague is always a pleasure.^ travel agent Nov 5, 12, 12:23 pm Hi, I'm studying in Prague. If anyone is coming to Prague and need some advice, feel free to ask me=) can you advise me of a good & cheap hotel close to the Jewish quarter? thanks Dolphinyong Nov 6, 12, 11:24 pm Jewish quarter? Hmm, I'm not too sure what's it's name in Czech... However, I know that you could get euro 40/night all inclusive including breakfast for Courtyard Prague Flora...PM me if you wanna know how to get this rate=) Regards. can you advise me of a good & cheap hotel close to the Jewish quarter? thanks Christopher Nov 7, 12, 1:39 am Is the Jewish quarter in Prague not in Josefov? tyn Nov 7, 12, 3:20 am Yes, the Jewish Quarter is Josefov and the Courtyard Flora Hotel is in Vinohrady, which is nowhere near it  but which the OP seems to always recommend Dolphinyong Nov 7, 12, 4:55 am Aha...it's Josefov...Well, I just love Courtyard Flora...haha=) I don't have any share at that hotel though... I'm making plans for New Year's Eve in Prague and would appreciate insight from a couple of locals. I see that the Prague State Opera has a big gala event. I also see that there are fireworks and parties elsewhere at midnight. Which experience will provide a more authentic Prague experience? I appreciate your insight. Cheers, LBBZman Dolphinyong Nov 23, 12, 3:46 am Hi, It depends on which type of New Year Eve you wanna have...You can go wild and crazy in Mustek (where the National museum is) where firecrackers are everywhere. Or you can go for the count-down at the astronomical clock/old town, it will be full of people.. Besides, there will normally be an official fireworks (organised by the government I think) somewhere near Namesti Republiky along the river... Maybe some other FTers can give their opinion too=) Regards. Hi there. I'm making plans for New Year's Eve in Prague and would appreciate insight from a couple of locals. CoupleTraveler Jan 25, 13, 5:01 am Thanks to OP, I got a free night stay at Intercontinental Prague:-: Thanks. CP^ adventureadam Jan 28, 13, 12:37 pm CoupleTraveler, that's great. You're not the OP, are you? Dolphinyong Jan 30, 13, 5:49 am  It will be great if you could contribute to this thread with some positive inputs. I have another similar thread giving out travel information about Malaysia, and luckily there's no one like you over there. I don't understand what's your intention to comment in this thread so far. Sorry, if it affects the visitors to your Prague Blog by the way. CoupleTraveler, that's great. You're not the OP, are you? tyn Jan 30, 13, 7:38 am I have no Prague Blog to sponsor or secret agenda. But you should take into account that some of the information you have posted makes people who are from Prague or know the city well doubt that you are a resident or have more than a passing knowledge of the city. Dolphinyong Jan 30, 13, 11:25 am I'm a student studying in Charles University in Prague. I'm giving out information regarding my experience staying in Prague for this few years, I admit that I don't know everything about Prague but my intention was to help other FTers who wanna travel to Prague and need some advice. I recommend Courtyard Flora Prague, because I think the price of 20euro/person/night really worth the money, especially for someone who travel on budget (for a student like me). I did receive PMs regarding the way to get such price. But it seems that it turn out to be 'a foolish idea' for some of you. Quite disappointed. I accept your comments. Please report to the mod to close this thread in order to avoid any wrong information being given out to other FTers. I did received some PMs specially thank me for the information on this thread, but it seems that my information given here is not welcomed by some of you. It's alright, somebody else can take over here and I will have more time to contribute on my thread about Malaysia. Regards. Sincerely. I have no Prague Blog to sponsor or secret agenda. But you should take into account that some of the information you have posted makes people who are from Prague or know the city well doubt that you are a resident or have more than a passing knowledge of the city. adventureadam Jan 31, 13, 12:04 pm No offense intended, I just found it odd that someone joined FlyerTalk in January 2013, posts on the same threads as you, seems to be from the same country as you (as they also posted on the Malaysia thread) and within a couple weeks you've secured them a free room at an expensive Prague hotel...combined with some other odd posts about Prague (like recommending a hotel in Flora to someone who wanted a hotel in the Jewish Quarter -- while not knowing what the Jewish Quarter is...one of the major tourist areas of Prague!). Not to mention that this new person has the exact same taste in restaurant recommendations in Prague as you! Amazing! On the other hand, life is full of mysteries and coincidences, and it's fantastic that two people from a country that is certainly underrepresented on FT found each other in Prague, recommend the same places, frequent all the same FT forums and starting doing significant favors for each other so quickly. Na zdravi! sadawilove77 Feb 22, 13, 12:52 am Hi I will travel to prague in april do you think is a good time to visit thanks |
