Wow...I did not know Disney had such a policy...wouldn't it be free advertising? ;) One of my nieces goes to Disneyland all the time - I know they do "Dapper Day" and some other dress up days...

Disney World’s dress code, posted here, states it can deny entry to visitors wearing clothes that could be a distraction, including “adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as a costume.” Kids under 10 are excluded from the rule.

Since Disney frequently has costumed employees in the parks, it would be an easy mistake for a kid to make. And should an unofficial "tinker bell" act inappropriately, the kid's parents are sure to blame Disney. Rather than take that risk, Disney prohibits adults/teens in costume.

+100

Disney is famous for their staff training programs, (so much so our trade association actually had one of their people do a seminar for us on how they create their customer experience) and they only pick their best to go out among their guests representing the "brand". They value the guest experience factor so highly that they would not allow even the possibility some idiot could cause another guest to have a bad experience.

And in all fairness to the Mouse:

Park officials asked Spielman to change, provided her with free clothes and gave her family FreePass tickets that meant no long lines for rides, clickorlando.com reported.

I'll keep in mind next time I go to Disney to have my daughter wear a character costume and see if we get the same!
