JetBlue TrueBlue - Will Jetblue lower ticket prices if seats are unsold?

Good Afternoon,

I been following a flight from Ponce, PR to JFK. Ponce airport is very small and the only airline that flies is JetBlue but right now the price is $587 round trip, still there are over 60 seats unsold. The flight is for July 21. Can someone tell me if I can expect JetBlue to lower the ticket price due to unsold seats?

they might sell them to Priceline, or another online vendor. I doubt they would get cheaper directly through them though...

it might go up.....

have you used expedia/orbitz to see other prices?

edit to add....perhaps leave from sju, looks like $200 or so cheaper....

blue is the only option from ponce....no reason to cut fares....

Crazy to drop your prices as the only carrier. Would just lead pax to wait longer to buy their tix.

How do you know there are over 60 seats unsold? Carriers don't disclose this type of information. If you're looking at the seating chart online, that is not a good indicator because people may not have chosen seats yet.

No one can predict airfares. They may go up, they may go down. These days, however, they are more likely to go up.

If you want a cheaper price, and are not too concerned with schedule, try Priceline's NYOP. Since there is only one carrier, you know what you'll get.

Moving the dates around seems to show fares under $400 by leaving a few days later. To me that would indicate it's probably not going to drop much, and there probably are not sixty seats available on the flight (or if there are, they know they can sell them for what they are asking for them).

Airlines are quite good at knowing how many seats they will sell on any given flight. And they would rather fly with empty seats than discount towards the flight date, that would keep anybody from booking in advance.

PR flights fill up last minute all the time...I've non revved with 25 open seats the night before and then I found myself almost not getting on standby...

If the prices DO drop, you'll be credited for the difference.

don't know about this specific flight, but I'm flying BOS-SEA in a few weeks. Booked the ticket back in March and added it to Yapta, I've now got $120 in travelbank from price drops. It's a very nice feature!

Oh, yes, I completely forgot: if you are going to get this flight no matter what, and are just holding out for a lower price, just book it.
They'll refund the difference if the price falls if you call them.

Not quite right; they will give airfare credit valid for one year if you call them upon price drop.

I suggest using yapta.com to track the fare, so you don't have to keep rechecking yourself.
