Hotel Deals - Grand Sierra Reno - 2 Free Nights (Sun-Thur) through July 31, 2012
Received this flyer in the mail yesterday......
Enjoy 2 free nights (Sunday-Thursday) now through July 31, 2012. Fri/Sat rates $99. Upgrade to a Summit Suite for only $40 per night. Also receive $25 in free play and $10 dining credit.
Rate is based on residency being 50 miles (or more) from hotel.
Use offer code: RSUMMR7 when booking at www.GrandSierraResort.com.
Side Note:
For those familiar with The Summit (Floors 17-26 of the Grand Sierra), you can also book these accomodations through another website I discovered yesterday when reading Tripadvisor.com:
www.RenoLuxuryResort.com
This website sells Summit rooms independent of the inventory Grand Sierra Resort draws from. For the travel dates I checked, they were discounted over the price Grand Sierra sells. There is also a promotion for June of 30% off if you book a minimum 2 nights. (promo code: 30June).
To learn/understand how these Summit rooms are sold differently than those by the Grand Sierra, read this link:

Hello,
I tried to book the hotel but it asked for "activation code" at the end. I tried to use the promotion code but it didn't work. Do you happen to have the activation code for this promotion? Thanks so much.
I did not need any activation code. I booked 2 free nights successfully by simply entering RSUMMR7 in the offer code box on the homepage on the www.grandsierraresort.com website.
Edited to add:
I see your problem now. I was logged onto the hotel's website using my GSRewards membership number in order to successfully book the 2 free nights. You can sign up instantly for a GSRewards card and will receive an email with your membership number (no charge to join). Enter your GSR membership number in the activation code section when booking your reservation and you'll be done. To sign up for a GSRewards membership, go to this link:

Thanks for pointing this out!

Hello,
I took your advise and registered to get the GSReward number. However, I got the account number, not GSReward number. When I enter the account number I am still getting an error message. Does it mean I have to be at Reno physically in order to get my GSReward card? Thanks.
See the e-mail below:
Dear xxxx,
Thank you for creating your Grand Sierra Resort GSRewards account!
Your Account Number Is: 101xxxxxxx
Your new Grand Sierra Resort GSRewards account is ready for you! All you need to do is collect your Grand Sierra Resort GSRewards card from one of our courteous Customer Support Representatives at the Grand Sierra Resort GSRewards booth in the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino. Until then, you can view and update your account preferences, view offers that have been extended to you, view the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino's current promotions and entertainment schedule, contact the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino, and much more!
Please visit the Grand Sierra Resort GSRewards website again soon!
Sorry for your continued trouble. Based on your experience it appears you have to have a pre-established GSRewards account (which I have). I will flag this thread for moderator review in the event they wish to remove.

The "Summit" rooms are pretty good, the non-Summit rooms are not.
Decent restaurants in the lobby/casino. This is a good deal.

Hotel is the old Reno Hilton, before that, the MGM Grand. It's just a big old' casino hotel, but adequate accommodations if you have to be in Reno.
BTW, the promo code seems to be working this morning, without a need for an additional GS Rewards number. Normal room rate is $49.00, code zeroes it and all taxes and fees.
"Deposit of first night + tax will be charged and is refundable if reservation cancelled 48 hours prior to arrival.
Promotional free room night offers will have a required $25 deposit. Balance not used during stay is refundable at check-out. If you cancel this reservation you will forfeit the $25 deposit.
Some promotional offers based on residency location.
Credit card billing address must match state photo ID at check-in.
Minimum 72 hours between stay required ñ offer cannot be booked back to back."

Good to know - thanks for checking that out.

Also be aware that this hotel charges a mandatory $10 PER NIGHT resort fee. This is not disclosed unless you click on the "billing details" button as you finalize your booking. The resulting pop-up window says, in part:
Daily resort fee includes:
Daily Health Club Admission
local calls from guest room
800 calls from guest room
Airport Shuttle
Wireless Internet
2 bottles of water
If you park in their free parking lot, and drink tap water, and don't use internet, you are still going to pay that resort fee. Because, you know, it's a resort. Frickin' rip-off artists!

uh, well thus the $0 room charge. $20 for 2 nights in a hotel is still a great deal.

So this isn't going to work if I'm signing up now?

Stayed at the GSR last month in the Summit suites...the rooms are nice!
Also good to know that if you "like" them on Facebook, they do frequent promotions at 50% off!

Just tired, and it still asked for activation code. Can anybody share one?

The $10 resort fee is par for reno casino properties. Annoying, but worth tolerating for off-peak rates under $50(really $60) found at many properties.

I stayed at the property last week. Used the promo, but if you player number is not targeted for the promo you will not be able to book.
