Traveling in a few days. Booked Main Cabin. At 24h, I understand I can UPG to MCS at 24h. Can i subsequently try to UPG to F at the 6 hour mark?

You can do MC to MCS @ T-24, or MC to F @ T-6, but you cannot do both online. The reason is you will have already checked in to do the first upgrade @ T-24. Once you are already checked in you cannot do the second upgrade online. However, at the airport you can do one, the other, or both, or you can call Virgin. Fyi> the last two times I tried to check-in and upgrade online it wouldn't go through, probably due to ongoing issues that haven't been fixed since their computer upgrade last year. Although I could have called to get it done, I waited until check-in at the airport and upgraded then. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thx. Mike_K Jun 9, 12, 12:34 am This is correct. You can do one or the other but not both. You are issued boarding passes after you perform the upgrade which means you're now checked in. Have you flown MCS & F before? I prefer bulkhead MCS to F. Maybe it's because I travel with my wife but you can't order food off of the screen in F. You have to call the attendant. Likewise you need to stow your screen on take-off and final approach. My wife likes F but for me, MCS is where it's at and if we book the center/ window seats, we always get that center seat for our rugrat. MCS was full on 3 of my 4 last flights. (Perhaps some of that was due to people using up their Gilt City coupons.) Mike_K Jun 9, 12, 2:32 pm MCS was full on 3 of my 4 last flights. (Perhaps some of that was due to people using up their Gilt City coupons.) Since just about nobody purchases MCS full fair and sitting in the center seat between two other people eliminates much of the incentive for upgrading, we've had good luck just upgrading as soon as possible and nobody's ever touched the center seat. I'll just book A & C. I made the mistake of thinking MCS upgrades were 6 hours too a couple flights ago and we missed out and had to go F. Not that F is terrible. For a 30 year old dude I suppose I'm kind of a diva. :) mikeef Jun 11, 12, 9:20 am How easy is it to upgrade from MC to F, particularly on long-haul? Do I have to be sitting at the computer, ready to hit the button at 6h? I've never flown VA, but this sounds like a heck of a deal. There's almost always a couple seats left for me to impulse buy when I get to the airport. mikeef Jun 11, 12, 10:43 am I've never had to on the ORD - LAX route. Mike Carfield Jun 11, 12, 10:56 pm Yes you can... but the procedure is a bit different I did it for my LAX to DFW flight last month... I upgraded to MCS at 24 hours mark, and then I called VX to upgrade to F at the 6 hours mark. However, please note that VX reservation is not 24/7 and if your departure time is somehow outside of their reservation hours, other passengers will be able to upgrade before you. LAX-DFW is not a busy upgrade route, so it is fine, but other routes may be busier. Carfield |
