I'm exploring the idea of renting out a beachfront property in San Diego for a bachelor party at the end of the month (yes, I know it's a bit last minute at this point). Having never done this before, I thought the FT community might be able to give me some advice. I've perused a few websites, and pretty much every property advertised seems to require at minimum a 3-4 night stay, and usually a whole week, whereas we would only need it for a night. Given that the summer is peak season, the minimum stay is understandable, but does anyone know if there are ever exceptions to this sort of thing, or if there's a better place to look for one-night rentals? I've called one of the rental agencies and they said that a one-night stay was unlikely, but they're looking into it for me, which is nice.

Furthermore, is it insane/frowned up to rent beachfront properties for this sort of thing? I have very little experience with San Diego culture, and while I would assume that parties go on in many of these houses, I don't want to unwittingly violate some rules. For what it's worth, we're going to be a fairly tame bachelor party -- the groom doesn't even drink. I'm mostly looking for a place that we can gather to share photos from a scavenger hunt, relax, and play games for a night.

If the beachfront thing doesn't work out, perhaps the next best thing is a nice big hotel suite, although most hotels that could accommodate that seem to be downtown, which is fine, but not the beach.

Thoughts?

Have you tried calling any of the properties and asking them if they'll waive the minimum stay?

In the process of doing that now -- as I said, they're "looking into it," which is somewhat encouraging, but not terribly so.

One night on the beach is probably going to be tough - most of the vacation rentals have a minimum stay year-round.

Is the beach a priority? If so, you could consider looking further north - there are more options for beachfront hotels, and you might even find someone willing to do a one-night rental up towards Carlsbad/Oceanside.

Otherwise, a hotel sounds like your best bet.
