Qatar Airways Privilege Club - Free hotel for > 8 Hour Transit. Which Booking Classes?
Hey guys,
Did a search and can't find conclusive answers.
Thinking of doing JNB - DOH - SIN - DPS in August.
Now I want to burn some miles via an upgrade H (economy) ticket.
For the date I selected, minimum transit time seems to be 18 hours in DOH with no other alternatives.
Does booking class H get a free hotel? Or do all flights (except award) get it?
Also DOH - DPS is 25K one way. Is it possible to upg this sectors at the same price if I do a stop over in SIN?
Thanks for the help.
P.S. If I see Expertflyer has all 9s for class Z (or D J C as well) then I'm definitely going to get my upg approved right?
Ok so I called into Sin office to clarify (surprised I even got thru)
Was told there is no free hotel at all for economy bookings? Not sure why I thought there was, but it seems it is the standard $125 USD incl meals and VOA cost.
And if I do DOH - DPS it is 25K to upgrade one way but can't do a stop over in SIN as that would count as 25K to SIN and then another 10K to DPS
I traveled economy SIN - TUN and had 9hrs transit last year and got free hotel at DOH
I was silver at the time, but was my family and none of them had status with QA
Thanks for your reply.
Can someone from QR clarify regarding this.
I'm thinking of doing CPT - SIN and the transit is way more than 8 hours.
If I get the free hotel I'll choose QR otherwise I'll do it with EK since the price is pretty much the same and I'm gold on both

Well, I always thought you would be eligibility for free accomodation in both economy and business....
Qatar Airways is pleased to offer a convenient transit hotel accommodation for customers who face extended transit times in Doha en route to their final destination.
This service is available on a paid or complimentary basis depending on eligibility.
Flight itineraries involving departures or arrivals from the following cities will be ineligible for this service due to our higher flight frequencies: Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI) and Muscat (MCT ).
Eligible customers will be offered the following services:
Al Maha greet service at Doha International Airport (First & Business Class customers)
Temporary entry visa fee to Doha, Qatar*
Airport-hotel-Airport transfers
5-star hotel accommodation for First & Business Class customers
3-star hotel accommodation for Economy Class customers.
Meals: breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner (dependent on the duration of the stay)

But maybe I'm wrong....

Qatar Airways don't hit the ball with a straight bat, so you cannot trust them has far has you could throw them. The words you state are very loose and can be interpreted in many different ways. I would prefer Qatar just to say that unless you have bought a full flexible economy ticket you are not entitled to hotel accommdation. If this was the case at least we all would know where we stood and that should prevent this same question being asked on a weekly basis.

Any updated word on this? Sending my parents through Doha an they will have a 13 hour layover. Booking a UA business class award on QR. Should they be able to get a temp visa and free hotel?

Simply can not trust QR giving accurate info. They just don care. As one of many examples just follow this one

I gave up QR earlyer this year, and I'm already top tier at both EK amd EY. I miss QR inflight,
but as long as QR dont give any trustworty sign improvement I just stay away.

Although this might not be 100% relevant to the subject at hand, I'll give it a shot here.
I have a 20 hour layover and I've been reading about this transfer hotel package for about $100 USD. Does this still exist? Does it have to be booked in advance or can I just show up and book it when I'm there? Do I get off at the arrival terminal instead of the transfer terminal?
I'm in economy (L) so I'm not expecting a free hotel room.
I guess I can get most of this info at the airport before flying out, but I like to be prepared :-)

I'm arriving at 5:50am in J from a CDG-DOH flight, then departing at 1pm on DOH-TBS flight, again in QR J. Am I entitled to anything or must I fend for myself during my 7:10 in Qatar?

Good Question!
Follow-up (just in case I get into the same situation). Can we opt to take a later flight outbound from Doha to obtain a free hotel accommodation for transits > 8 hours?

The rule is that the layover must be longer than 8 hours and you must be taking the first available connecting flight out so artificially padding the layover won't work.
Are Business Class Travellers on a Mileage Plus reward ticket eligible for the complimentary transfers and hotel, same as paid business class? Is this written anywhere?

I was told no but got the impression that it was up to the person whom you talk to whether they book you the hotel or not. I will give it a shot a few more times following the FT mantra of hang politely up/call again until you get a willing agent.

So probably Z buckets are not but what if I buy a sale fare C or J ticket?

hi Ised,
If there is no immediate connecting flight on the given date of departure and layover is over 8 hours but not exceed 24 hrs. The revenue RBD is not W/V then transit accommodation could be possible.

Thanks Alex,
How about business class, and also which buckets will get them for Free? As from my understanding there is:
1) Free
2) Eligible (Pax pays)
3) Not Eligible
If there isin't a fixed criteria please let us know that as well.
Thanks a lot indeed.
