InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Billed double on IDEX1 rate (2 for 1) After Checkout

Hey guys,
Need some advice here.

Booked a room on IDEX1 for a friend using my account and I placed her as additional guest.
I didnt check in at all.

At the hotel they took her credit card for the stay. When she checked she wasn't given anything to sign nor was she given a receipt. But today her CC bill shows she was billed for 2 nights instead of 1.

Not sure if the hotel is trying anything unethical, but she is currently waiting for their reply about refunding the second night's charges.

What course of action should be taken if the hotel refuses to refund the excess charge? Contact IHG? Or file a dispute with the CC company?

Never had any issues like this before. Hoping it is just an honest mistake on the front desk staff. But it's a bit fishy that the staff did not mention anything about payment when my friend checked out, and then ended up billing her double.

Thanks for the help!

It's supposed to be a prepaid rate. But if your location is any indication, Asian hotels are extremely reckless when dealing with CC holds. You need to make sure her card was indeed charged.

IDEX1 works in Europe hotels, this was for a booking in Italy which I think would be even more reckless than in Asia.

And it is supposed to be prepaid, but many times I end up paying during checkout for this rate

I had a problem with a property in Germany recently where they charged over GBP150 from my credit card after I checked out without my consent.

The hotel was very slow to answer emails (over a week) and only did so once I had got IHG involved. I was not impressed at their attitude.

If the hotel hasn't replied in a reasonable amount of time, I would escalate to IHG and if you still don't get the right result go to your credit card company.

Best of luck!

Just wanted to update that the hotel has refunded my friend in the end. So all worked out well
