Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Website no longer shows Australia awards? (FIXED)

Just looked at bookings for next winter to Australia, well within the 330 days. The AS website does not offer QF or DL as options? Air Pacific is the only one listed in the Award Options.

Anyone know what is going on?

That shows no more Qantas.

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mileage-plan/using-miles/using-miles-overview/north-america-definitions.aspx

That still shows them.

http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mileage-plan/partners/qantas.aspx

That still shows them too.

So...maybe the first page is the one that's wrong? (I hope I hope I hope)

Third strike for AS? They need to instill some quality control when updating the website

Bonus EQMs mess up, Companion Pass discontinuation [partially Bofa's fault], KE was accidentally listed as a new EQM earning partner, now this...

What is next? They will accidentally add 4 unrestricted SWUs in the MVPG75K benefits page that can be used on any DL/AA flight?

I am pretty sure we can still redeem miles on CX/QF/KE to Australia.

I hope you are right but 2 & 3 are for earning miles only. DL has also gone missing which removes the other option.

Funny that the last link you have there sends you to the first link which has no mention of Qantas. From the website at least, it looks like they may be dropping that partnership :(

I just clicked on the last link and it showed the QF partnership details... I doubt this partnership is going away, AS brings key connections that AA does not offer.

On the phone, agent says she does not have any idea what I am talking about, but at least she confirmed that she can only see two airlines [Air Pacific and Air France]....

She said, if I want to see other airlines that partners with AS I should look in the continental US award chart

Transferring to the partner desk... I picked the wrong number :o

*drumrolls*

We can still book Qantas, Korean, Delta, and Cathay to the Oceania region...

*waiting for firework explosions*

Oh that's right, it is a non-event :p I am a little concerned about the frequency of AS uploading incorrect information on their website lately...

The real joke is that Qantas F awards still have a published price, as if these are theoretically bookable. I have called multiple times looking for F seats LAX-SYD and was informed that Qantas had 0 seats available on ANY date. Even when requesting agents look over the entire year of availability, and even just one way. For the most part, even business seats are only available when booking 11 months out.

Every agent I have talked to has said that they have never booked a QF F award. Cathay Pacific is my next best option, which is F only for the long haul portion.

And that's a stretch: it's basically a 60-40 split between the TPAC portion and the "kangaroo hop" (http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=yvr-hkg-syd). An F trip with 40% in J isn't so great.

If AS allowed multiple partner bookings or one-way awards , or QF redemptions for Asia-Australia (similar to CX) though...

http://travelsort.com/blog/the-10-best-premium-cabin-award-redemption-values

They regularly release one first class award seat on their Airbus 380 flights between Singapore and Sydney/Melbourne. At 45,000 miles each way for Qantas Airbus 380 first class, it’s an amazing value.

So you'd fly CX in F to SIN, then connect to QF. Not bad.

I have had the great honor of meeting this team when I took part in one of their on-site surveys. Got miles for doing it too!

None needs to be beaten and their leader is a DOLL^^

Self-flagellation really isn't my kink ;)

That one was all me. The page was appropriately QA'ed and then I managed to wipe out half the page and not notice. I was probably hungry.

I have booked Qantas F three times for two people, including a trip scheduled in two weeks. Also booked again for next January. YMMV

Roundtrip with AS miles?

I have seen QF F availability before, but the frustrating part is that it is almost impossible to find a r/t in F that results in the trip only being a week or so. It is pretty common to see LAX-SYD F availability, but then there is no SYD-LAX F availability or vice versa... It is tough since AS does not allow OW awards on partners.

You booked those 355 days out or closer to the date? I am curious :)

I'm very curious about the bookings here too. What were your date requirements going in, and how flexible did you have to be with routing to accomplish the F award? How far in advance did you book? Like golfingboy, I'm interested in a short trip, which requires award availability both ways with approximately 6-10 days in between. So far I have never spoken to an AS agent that has found a QF F seat to SYD, much less coming back.

In the grand scheme of things, my point is not that NO ONE has EVER redeemed AS miles for QF F. But if award availability is so restricted that multiple year-long searches consistently yield 0 results, the situation is that these awards are effectively not available.

I have booked all 3 sets of F redemptions within minutes of the awards being released at approximately 4pm Pacific time, 355 days in advance. This requires 4 separate calls to book as space is released:

1. LAX-SYD/MEL
2. SYD/MEL-LAX
3. AS legs to LAX
4. AS legs from LAX

For my January 2013 redemptions, I was able to get the exact dates I wanted in order to attend the Australian Open.

Thanks for sharing :) So, how did you get AS to book the ticket when you have an outbound, but no return? Or, they were fine booking an one way for you, but with the understanding that you will be charged the r/t amount?

Not a problem as they understand you cannot book the return until it's loaded. Since there are no one-way redemptions on partners, you're charged the round trip mileage and the one-way taxes when you book the first segment. As you call to add the subsequent segments, they re-fare the taxes. It's a bit of work, but the first class seat on the 380 is worth it.

I'm in Australia now with a Alaska ff ticket. In my case I started with business class out of Dallas and back into LAX. I then used expert flyer to watch for first. It isn't the cheapestest way to do it but I figured for around 500 in change fees and such it was a good deal for me. Of course my task was a bit simpler as I was just looking for one seat. I have to say based on the outbound first was really worth it. I flew out of LAX and will return to LAXon the a380.

Of course I am spoiled now and will have to back to coach for a while...

Hope that helps

I encountered that last year when booking a vacation to New Zealand -- ended up on Air Pacific. I am doing some planning for a trip in two years to Australia and NZ and while I would REALLY like to book Qantas first class from LA to either Sydney or Melbourne and back, I figure that Qantas first class seat awards are a myth.

Air Pacific is not as nice. Then again, to make a bit of lemonade out of that, I figure a vacation using Air Pacific outbound to Brisbane, vacation going south south to Melbourne, fly Qantas to Queenstown, vacation going north, then fly out from Auckland to Nadi, vacation for three days in Fiji and fly back to LA.

I do wish there was availability with Qantas first class though. I suspect this one is on Qantas and not Alaska Airlines.
