Now they want 99 bucks a year? Want to close account but have a balance, will they close account and let you pay it off without paying the 99 annual fee? really dont to do a balance transfer.

If you request closure within 30 days of the posting of the $99 fee, it will be reversed automatically when you request account closure. From 30 to 60 days they will normally reverse it on request with account closure.

Are you saying that they have raised your annual fee from $59/$69 to $99?

$69 is Plus. $99 is Premier

The $99 Premier RR Visa has a negative net annual cost, as the 6,000 anniversary points are worth more than the $99 annual fee (when used for WGA fares). On a net cost basis, the $69 regular card is about $20 more expensive. The only reasons to cancel would be an attempt to snag the anniversary bonus without renewing, or to wait "long enough" to be able to grab a lucrative signup bonus.

And some cardholders are grandfathered in with lower annual fees; mine is $59.

My question was to the OP, who seemed to suggest that Chase raised his/her annual fee to $99.

a friend said she pays 99 a years for her chase swa card, maybe she had a different card mine. my fee usually get billed between May and July. Im just asking if you have a balance can you cancel card and have some time to pay it off or do you have to pay off balance then. Im not thrilled with Rapid Rewards 2.0 and Chase has been difficult from day one.

They need to disclose to you if they're raising your fee. There is verbiage on every statement about your rights to cancel if you don't want to pay the fee. See what it says about when you need to pay it off; I don't normally carry a balance so I don't pay much attention to that.

For the record, it looks like the applicable rule is that you can avoid paying the fee if you ask to cancel the card within 30 days or one billing cycle, whichever is less, of the statement with the fee, and pay the balance in full at the same time.

As has been said earlier, the $99 fee is for the Premier card. Chase could raise the annual fee (with notice) for the "regular" card to the now-current $69, but I haven't heard of them doing that (mine is still at the $59 I opened it with). If you cancel you have to pay off the balance.
