Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Can Someone Explain Code Share Policy for SQ?

On the Singapore Airlines website, I booked a codeshare flight on Silkair, SIN - KUL. It was my bad... I missed the flight after checking in (con call - not paying attention to time).

I went to the transfer counter to see if I could catch the next flight out that evening. The next (and last) flight out was a codeshare flight with Malaysia airlines. They would no put me on this flight even though there were seats available.

Instead, they told me that I could go to the Malaysia airlines counter and purchase a ticket from them, or I could fly in the morning... on another Silkair codeshare flight... which is what I ended up doing.

The question: Obviously, Silkair is wholly owned by SQ, while MH is an independent airline. But give that both are given SQ codeshare flight numbers as in SQxxxx, is it right that rebookings would be treated differently?

Thanks.

The SQ/MI flights are in the lower fare bucket compared to SQ/MI/MH. So to be able to use MH flights you need to pay the difference for the upgrade of your ticket. They should actually allow you to do that.

Yes, good point, although in this case, I was in the full Y bucket anyway... SQ has three fare ranges for SIN-KUL flights and this was the most expensive. But, your logic makes sense... more than SQ's.

Then would SQ refund their ticket that you weren't using?

A year ago coming back from KL I had to urgently reschedule my flight back to London. The desk for the SIN-KL shuttle was able to rebook me (from MI to SQ) on the next flight ("we have complete flexibility on this sector to rebook you between SQ/MI/MH").

At least thats what they told me. They had to contact London office to check the conditions of the SIN-LHR flight.
