Singapore - Airport hotel shuttle without a hotel reservation?

On a previous visit to Singapore (Dec 2011), I had a hotel reservation and used the Airport Shuttle at the Ground Transport desk to transfer per shuttle to my hotel for only S$9.

This time I only have a very long transit en-route to BKK (13 Hours) and want to go into the city for the day. I want to know if it is possible to take the Airport Shuttle if I agree to be dropped off at one of the hotels to which the service runs? Or is the service subsidized by the hotels and therefore requires a hotel reservation to use it?
Comfortable and much cheaper than a taxi I hope this is a possibility?!

I don't think you would have any issue. Take it like you are going to walk in to the hotel for a stay but you aren't

IMO, the shuttle is only worth it if you are traveling solo. In groups, to say 3-4, a taxi would be more worthwhile.

Thanks tycosiao!
Unfortunately on this trip I will be alone, but then again, I did log my travel details in the Trip section so never know if maybe I will be able to meet up with a fellow FTer and share miles earning secrets! :)

AFAIK this is just a regular shared shuttle service; I have seen it drop off and pick up passengers at what appear to be private residences and at most hotels, it drops the passengers off in the street, not the hotel's carriage entrance. There is no check for hotel reservations to use this service. In USA terms, think of it like SuperShuttle, not an airport hotel shuttle.

Not if you arrive in the middle of the night which I have been on the last 3 trips to Singapore. Also it was about S$3.75 to downton Singapore and took over and hour!
