Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - Urgent Q: 55min Connection in BKK
I have to issue a ticket today and I am worried about my 55 minuted connection time in BKK.
Im coming in from HKG on TG and leaving 55 minutes later on TG to RGN in Y class. If I missed the connection would TG put us up for the night free of charge until next available flight the next day?
Im wondering if i should take an earlier flight from HKG??
Thanks for any help
If on a valid connection (and I indeed think that MCT int. TG to int. TG is 55 min) you will be fine in the unlikely event that you miss your RGN flight. TG will provide hotel. Don't worry!
Thanks for your quick response! very helpful

What is your travel date? If your travel date is during 11 Jun - 10 Aug 2012, TG suggests that the minimum connection time is 80 min. due to runway maintenance at BKK airport. If not, 55 min. is sufficient.

While it doesn't affect the OP, nor me, I'm wondering what TG would do if the tickets were purchased prior to this alert being issued and the travel date fell within the range posted.

I assume you are on the 1500 flight from HKG to BKK and then conneting onto RGN... should be OK. Most people flying from HKG to RGN are on this flight. I personally took the 1245 flight from HKG - I am one of those that freak out "what if the flight is delayed into Bangkok" as 1835 is the last flight to RGN for the day. But 55 minutes on the ground to connect from one international flight to another is enough in BKK airport in general. Usually from stepping off the plane to security to emerging on the departure level takes 20minutes.

Yes. But hope that your departure gate is not at the other end of the airport.

From experience, TG international flights all depart from C gates at BKK so should not be a problem.

Sorry, but that is not true.
The C gates are the most popular for TG international flights, and are used almost exclusively by TG, but as Brunos says, it just isn't true that they only use the C gates. I believe they at times use gates on every concourse.
A and B used to be exclusively domestic, but about a year or so ago, they did some remodeling and are now able to use those concourses for international flights during the night time when they aren't being used for domestic flights.
TG built two lounges on the E concourse, obviously because they have a lot of flights from there. F not so many, but still some. A fair amount from the D concourse. I've never been on a TG flight from the G concourse, but heard they do use it occasionally. Even the same flight can depart from the opposite side of the airport on successive days.

As to my knowledge and personal experience, gates at G concourse are being used by TG for flights with VVIP / Royal family is on board, which happens more or less regulary...

Learn something new every day ! Don't mind TG flights departing from other concourses actually. The Louis Tavern lounge in Concourse C (which is accessible using Priority Pass card) is actually a bit below par compared to those in F/G area. :)

I have a 1 hour connection at suvarnabhumi in July 2012. I am connecting MEL-MAA on TG and have exactly 1 hour to connect. There is no other connecting flight if i miss this my only choice would be to fly the next day. will i be offered Hotel accommodation if i am not able to make t connection?

From TG news, they promise to do their best for smooth operation in runway maintenance period.
