Welcome to FlyerTalk.
Cross-posting is not allowed on FlyerTalk; as you have posted the same question in Travel Buzz! Forum, that one will be allowed to remain open for ticket issues; this one has been retitled so you can get advice about Hong Kong accommodation - but we also highly recommend looking at existing threads and learning to use Search (definitive thread on using Search here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/technical-issues/676224-using-search-feature-flyertalk-definitive-thread.html)).
The Flyertalk Rules can be read here (http://www.flyertalk.com/help/rules.php)- they may be helpful to getting the most out of this BBS.

First thing you need to provide is a budget. And I assume this is your first time in HK?

Here is one hotel I use when I am in HKG - low cost, good clean rooms and great breakfast.
Centrally located.

Also take a look at the hotel booking websites, especially the Asia based websites.
Agoda, AsiaTravel etc.

hotel cosmo 4 star hotel in causeway bay area $101 + tax per nite
very good and quiet hotel
US$100 is now just enough to get a tiny room in a "real" hotel in the city, close to subway lines. Less and you're looking at guesthouses in multi-use buildings. If you want nicer hotels for US$100, you'll have to pick one that's not as convenient - end of subway lines or bus/shuttle required.
Anyhow, it's too early to book or even look right now. Wait until August, and then check on asiahotels.com, Expedia or other booking sites to see what's available on the dates you want. Give us some names then and we'll advice.
Also check out the YMCA Salisbury, a real hotel with excellent location. They are not usually listed on 3rd party sites, so ask them when's the earliest you can book for Nov.

How about a 5star Marriott hotel at price of 110USD (including breakfast) for Hong Kong Skycity Marriott and 100USD for Courtyard Shanghai Puxi?
These are 5 star hotel, why so cheap? It's because of the marriott LNF program http://www.marriott.com/hotel-prices/travel.mi
If you are not yet a marriott member. PM me for details about marriott LNF, marriott referral program(2000points/stay for you and me) and marriott MegaBonus (2stay 1night free)...

Its because that hotel is NOT in HK ! Its in Guangzhou !
HK hotels run from minimum of US$ 150 and up. Best to find them under some of the prepaid hotel sites like wotif or expedia.

Only if you plan to live next to the airport!
It's near to Lantau island and Disneyland, they are the tourist spot in HK,especially Lantau island. It takes 20 minutes by underground to HK city centre, and the hotel provides free shuttle to the underground station and airport.
But the cost of heading in and out of town each day is not that cheap. $100 return ticket on airport express, to Tung Chung $50, A bus about 60 and E bus 50...
Really depends what OP wants to do. right? :D

HK tourist Day pass is HKD 55 : Unlimited use of MTR in HK for 24hours
It's not necessary to take the airport express to HK city centre, hotel provide FREE shuttle to Thung Chung Station every 15minutes, just take the mtr from Thung Chung station to HK city centre, it will take you about 20minutes.
Hotel also provide FREE shuttle to and from the HK airport, that can help to save some money, right?
What come together is free breakfast and snacks+drinks in lounge, so that again will cut down the budget=)

I would go with "The Bauhinia Hotel Central Hong Kong" -Its a great hotel and right on your budget !
Anyway:
Here is a list of all Hong Kong hotels !
http://search.resortsbook.com/City/Hong_Kong_1.htm
As you can see there are plenty on your budget !
Have fun !
Tung Chung to HK Station takes 30 minutes on the Tung Chung Line, and trains can be as infrequent as every 8 to 10 minutes. And you still have to add the time for the shuttle from the Marriott. More importantly, Tung Chung Line doesn't go through central Kowloon, which may be of interest to a tourist. Tung Chung to Tsim Sha Tsui takes 38 minutes, with a connection.

So, if Chiggah is not interested in Lantau island/Disneyland which is near to Hong Kong Skycity Marriott, I would suggest Courtyard Hong Kong right in the city centre, which will cost you USD120 per night including breakfast, lounge access & taxes=)

I want to know where and how you find that rate. I see HK$1,450 as the lowest rate for Nov/Dec 2012 on Marriott.com.

The Cosmo is actually an annex of the Cosmopolitan.
The cosmopolitan is the 'higher' end of the two

I've stayed at both and find them both to be okay enough... good location. One thing to note about the Cosmo is that there is a cemetery behind it, and they love sticking foreigners in cemetery facing rooms.

Of course, since they're much less to complain or object than the mainland Chinese guests.
