Guys,
i'd like to drive on the highway 1 from vancouver to anchorage but i can see that no cars is bookable for a one way till there.
i tried so to use the pick up in US (seattle) but had no luck.
i am so thinking that they don't allow any one-way to anchorage even if it seems available with other companies at least in alaska.
Anyone has already tried that before? any suggestions?
thanks

They are a 100% independently-owned-and-operated franchise (unlike most Avis licensees, which still use the Avis corporate computer system and corporate fleet). Thus, they do not do one-ways to other Avis locations outside the state of Alaska.
That said, they have in the past done seasonal one-way specials to help in-fleet (in the late spring/early summer) and de-fleet (in the early fall). Details are usually posted on their site at http://www.avisalaska.com, but don't expect much. Try giving them a call (number's on their website).

Thanks for the sharing. Another question is the time: we arrive at 12:30 AM (not counting any delays), I noticed that this location closes at 1AM. Would this be a problem for us to pick up car? Not a preferred member any more.

They may publish their hours as closing and stop taking reservations at 1:00, but they don't actually close the counter until 1:30 (you may want to call them to verify just in case they've changed since I've moved, although I highly doubt it since there are several flights that land around that time). So, you'll be fine. Just be sure to be physically standing at their counter in line by the time they close--leave your bags at baggage claim if necessary. Once you're in line, they won't turn you away.
A thought just occurred to me: Enterprise (which doesn't usually allow one-ways but is starting to open up their network) and Hertz are the only two corporate-owned locations in ANC. It may be worth checking with them about a one-way rental. Didn't see anything on a couple of sample searches, but you never know...

I'm not doing one-way though. Got a reservation at Hertz for about 100 more expensive than what I can get from Avis with the HP AWD.
Another thing is, I saw people reporting using that specific AWD but had mileage restriction, and was charged 30c/mile, others reporting fine. I tried in online, and it showed "unlimited" in the mileage part, so it should be good then?

The OP of the thread (and the title of the thread) were asking about a one-way.

If your reservation says unlimited mileage, then that trumps everything. In the event of a dispute, though, you may end up having to prove your affiliation with HP, which it sounds like you won't be able to do. ;)
