I'm booked MEL-LAX (as I understand it this is an A380 flight) on a business class fare on Friday, and I have the option to use my Qantas FF points to request an upgrade to first. Just wondering whether people here think it's worth it? Having never flown first before, I'm almost tempted to on those grounds alone. But is the difference between business and first on the Qantas A380 really that significant? Just curious, so appreciate any thoughts!

I suppose it depends on how highly you value yorur points.

If it were me, I'd do it: the A380 is QF's flagship plane, and there is the tasting menu available out of MEL. If you were looking to sample QF F, this would be one of the better flights to do it on.

It depends on lots of factors. If you have the points and have not allocated them for anything else, then DO IT. Do realise however that the UG request is prioritised on status and I believe fare class in paid business. It may not happen - but it certainly won't happen if you don't try!

The MEL-LAX sector is best for experiencing F. You get to indulge in everything without the implied pressure to go to sleep as soon as take off is done with (as with LAx-MEL).

It's only 45000 points, and I they're sitting in my account doing nothing. I'll put in the request. I'm only Gold, so chances probably aren't great, but we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice :)

Agree if you have the points available give it a go. If it is successful, then you won't die wondering what the F cabin is like. If it is not, you keep the points and have a pleasant trip in J.

If you're on this Friday's flight (8/6/2012), then EF is currently showing F9 A9, so it looks like there's quite a few seats free at the moment.

I got an op-up to FIRST last week on the SYD-LAX service. It's nice but I wouldn't spend my own money (or points) on it.

I actually find the business class A380 business seat very comfortable and whilst the F seat has its advantages it is very complicated to adjust - too many options for my liking!

If you have the chance then do it, you never know if the opportunity will present itself again.

Hell yes. It's a different world compared to the unwashed masses in business.

The QF F product is excellent. I'm just back from a RTW F flight with my wife. When we boarded a flight on BA from LHR to JFK, my wife said to me "I thought we were in F the whole way." I told her we were in F, in fact BA's new F. She thought we were in business. Heh.

I did an upgrade to F on SYD-LHR on the 380 last month. If you got points to burn then I'd recommend it.

+1 I wouldn't hesitate to request it. F on the A380 is very nice, daytime flight, 8 course tasting menu. F Lounge access in MEL and Spa appointment
Absolutely :)
