We have 9 and 10 year old boys. Taking a toad trip from Denver to Galveston TX...

Need recommendations for books on tape! History, biography, travelogues (extra points for one mentioning the desert SW we'll be driving through).

Have you look on Audible? They have a childrens section and you can filter by age or type of story.

Better yet check your local library. Ours has tons you can downloand and transfer to iPod for free. They also have preloaded MP3's with one book each on them you can check out called PlayAways. My kids listen to audiobooks more than movies, and they'll listen to anything they would read- hard to make reccomendations without knowing the kid though.

Difficult to find on audio, but highly recommend The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, by Robert Lewis Taylor. Perhaps the person not driving could read it aloud?

A wonderful book, available through Amazon.
