Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - Is Scoot really flying from tomorrow?

A day before the launch of Scoot's first flight and there's no hint, no publicity, no anticipatory celebration on its website. Or anywhere in Singapore other than a few yellow taxis.

Particularly unusual in Singapore when any minor thing that SQ does is full page news - like first to fly the A380, or last flight on the 747.

Is the silence ominous?

Maybe they consider advertising/PR "frills" :D

One of my friend is working furiously for a SQ vendor in SIN retrofitting the 777. They are working 24/7, eating and sleeping inside the airplane, trying to get all the work done. When I talked to her last week, they were done with just the first 2 planes but still way behind schedule on the other frames.

Those yellow seats are rather yellow.

Their website is active Fly Scoot (http://www.flyscoot.com/index.php/en/)

They appear to be starting flights to Sydney from Singapore on Saturday June 9!

No launch information appears on their website, however the fares on opening day suggest that the cheapest seats are already gone.

I am surprised to see that Business Class is offered.

Yup... it takes only an accidental splash of coffee or a dirty pair of trousers to change it! :D

Inaugural was on the 4th of june as planned and was covered in the media as well. The media thougt its worth to mention that flight took of Changi an hour late due to technical issues (one passenger got off-board because of this).

Well, if anybody takes a flight, please offer a up a Trip Report! I'm not sure I'd be willing to do SIN-SYD in regular economy seats, but the "business" seats look OK--if you think of it as premium economy product. The Ipad idea is interesting--it might actually be more cost effective for many airlines to do this, versus dealing with an expensive built-in IFE system that forever needs maintenance and steals underfoot space.

I'm interested to see their future intra-Asia routes which are shorter and might be easier to handle.

Most importantly, what is their attitude toward customer service? In this respect, they wouldn't have to break much of a sweat to beat Air Asia. :p

Perhaps more importantly, IFE/AVOD adds a lot of weight to the aircraft. It's also easier to upgrade to the next generation when using independent free-standing devices.

The concern, of course, is that FAs must document who has borrowed the ipads for on-board use and then be sure to collect them before landing, but I've noticed that SQ is quite careful with its FC headphones.

In my opinion, Scoot's customer service appears just as thick as Air Asia's, as evidenced in my two recent interactions:

Air Asia
Me: Is there a way to book KUL- OOL (openjaw) SYD - KUL?
CS: [put on long hold] You want to do what?
Me: Book KUL - OOL (openjaw) SYD - KUL
CS: [put on long hold] Let me check for you. [put on long hold] I can't seem to be able to do that. [put on long hold] I confirm I can't do that. [put on long hold] Have you tried booking on our website?
Me: Of course, but your website doesn't allow openjaw bookings, only one way or return, hence I was hoping it's something you can do.
CS: [put on long hold] We can't do that.
Me: Why?
CS: [put on long hold] We just can't do that. [then cuts off]

Scoot
Me: I want to book SIN - BKK - SIN for November 2012 but the fares don't appear to be loaded on your website post end October 2012.
CS: We can't book that because the fares aren't loaded on the website.
Me: That's what I just said. Why aren't the fares to BKK loaded, whereas SYD and OOL have been loaded until March 2013?
CS: We don't know.
Me: I thought your CEO says the SIN - BKK - SIN route uses the same SYD or OOL aircraft that otherwise will lay idle on the tarmac, so why has BKK stopped flying after end October 2012 when you certainly didn't stop SYD or OOL?
CS: We don't know.
Me: When will the fares be loaded?
CS: We don't know.
Me: How can I be notified when the fares are eventually loaded?
CS: We don't know. You need to check the website.
Me: So what exactly DO YOU KNOW?!?

Have they outsourced their call center?
